I was never called a loser for playing video games, though most kids were perplexed when I brought up PC games.

In HEUHEUHE-land, most kids were perplexed when I brought up console RPGs. This often times include Final Fantasy. So nevermind the likes of Persona or SMT. I don't even have to tell you why I only got around playing PC RPGs, not MMOs, in the late 2000s.

Really? At school the only worthy thing to own was a SNES or a PS1, for all those soccer games... some people also played some RPGs and Resident Evils, but I was the only one in class that liked PC games...

Potato was a land of PCs after the era of C64s, Miggy-s and such has ended and the smokes of platform wars cleared.

Same here. PC games, let alone RPGs classified you as the biggest fucking loser one could imagine back in the late 80's / early 90's.

Yeah, PC gaming only became a thing in the early 2000s when two things happened: Lan houses and ADSL connections.

But if I'm getting this right, the only way to get a 9-10 game is to develop a new expensive engine to go along with it?

HEUEHEHE-land, instead chose to specialize in the widespread, professional, corrupt and drug dealing fueling commerce of pirate consoles and games. PC games too, but that market was always limited, moreso in Brasil I think. A PS1 game with good media (the kind that won't explode the console after a year) was about 5 dollars (those also looked good, with covers and often cases that were as good as the original ones), those with bad media goes as far as a third of that. Its like Brazilian industrialization all over again, opting for the inferior tech and un-:obviously: games.

But even worse than console centrism is what felipepeppepepe said, most people didn't go far beyond what was 'mainstream' - namely soccer games and Nintendo games.

PC gaming became a thing with the rise of Lan houses. Eventually burning through shooters and RTSs into the fantastic world of MMOs (read: Ragnarok Online and UO clones Glorious Tibia) that ironically brought me into PC gaming and eventually CRPGs.

I don't understand how such a thing is even possible. The brain processes of these people are so alien that I'd love to cut off them up with a curved 4 inch knife.

I don't know what motivates people to share their bad fanart.

Now that's something worth sharing.
Also to suggest that girls didn't play games in the mid 90s or that they only do it for attention is wrong.
Those that did aren't whining about games not catering to their uniquely feminine needs now.
What a wrong assumption to make.
