Question: from what I've seen, the game doesn't seem to allow you the sort of character customization that the Souls games do--is it possible to make diverse builds or are you essentially locked into the melee+gun style with the only variation being the type of gun or melee weapon?

So, Rom just killed the game for me.

It's not a ragequit, I've ragequitted in Capra Demon, O&S, Ruin Sentinels, but I knew I got this and it just was a matter of time to succeed.

It's just a quit out of disappointment. It's the most tedious, boring and uninspired boss in the Souls series (excluding DeS that I haven't played yet).

I can't kill the spiders in phases 2 & 3 because the fucking crystals come on me no matter how much I roll/dash/jump. I can't ignore the spiders cause they swarm me in no time.

So, fuck it, with 1.03 on, I might start a PoE proper save.

Here's how you beat the missles I've found.

Watch Rom at all times.

When he gets up on his hind legs, wait til he is back flat on the ground then start spamming roll towards him. I get about a 90% miss rate doing that. Dodging left or right I always got caught in a missle somewhere. spamming roll forward (maybe even backward) worked best for me.

I'm having more fun with scholar, i probably like the slower more methodological combat of souls.

Man, that was a GREAT tip! Timing my dash when he landed was the key to avoid missiles. Beat it after 2 tries!

Many many thanks!

Took out Rom with the stake driver and bolt paper.
Also i found out if you hit a spider from the front 2 times then the 3rd attack will go through.

Also Stakedriver is the best weapon in the game. Not the most effective, smartest or any thing like that. How ever it is the best that full charge.

Wow, I suck big time in this game or difficulty after Rom has turned up a lot.

I cleared the next area after God knows how many tries, beat the boss and I'm in...

Mensis Nightmare

I get that the game is great, I really do, but I'm starting to feel overwhelmed by it. I think sometimes is hard for the sake of it... Or I just suck in it as I mentioned before. The only thing that keeps me going is the low percentages of people that gained various trophies.

I hope I'm reaching the final stages of it.

Villagkouras just run. trust me. just. fucking. run. as in, run to the next checkpoint, run to the boss, etc. you can come back and explore this stuff later when you have a grasp on the area if you're so inclined.

No I am not ironical, I am tempted to run a lot of times but I worry I end up without chunks or echoes if I do it. I get what you say though.

I'm too proud to run, lol. Besides how am I supposed to level up myself and my weapon if I don't fight?

Haha...you were just ">< this close" to rage quitting yesterday and want to start to play that PoE rougey shit :troll:

I was so burnt out after I beat Rom I took a break before that next area..the one with the re-spawning enemies if you dilly dally too long...right?

I'm not saying to completely avoid playing the game. By just darting for the next checkpoint (especially in this one area) you will be able to understand the lay of the land and tackle obstacles in a more logical manner with this knowledge, as opposed to getting frenzied ad naesuem.

@Zep, yeah this area. Seriously last night I was determined to abandon the game. If I was a game journalist I'd write a poetic piece titled "I hate Bloodborne so much, I love it" or something like that.

Phage, thanks for the perspective man, I'll remember the days from Lost Izalith of running

I ran through that area as well. Plus the area before it. Unfortunately they didn't do anything to fix the balance and pacing issues at the end of this game, just the same as DS1+2.

Is there a consensus yet on the most powerful PvE build/weapons? Now that I've beaten the game I want to replay it with an OP character and just annihilate everything. It seems like the Cannon + Bone Ash Marrow is good but that requires 30 STR. There are so few Trick weapons to choose from, unfortunately.

Ludwig's Holy Blade is best for PvE.

Level strength and skill evenly to get the most out of it.

I haven't personally gotten to use this, but it does seem to be pretty goddamn strong. Starts to wane off once you get into the chalice content and NG+ stuff though. It's really going to come down to how far in the game you want to go. When I was doing Defiled Chalice and the like while going for Platinum, my souls level was like in the early 100s and I realized that I had so many stats that the extreme scaling weapons like Ludwig's were just going to outclass everything. Ended up finishing the chalice queen at lvl 150. I know some MLG doritoscope pros can do it at as early as 80s and whatnot, but I've also seen some people struggle at SL 250... so... yeah.

Bros, I have a question about the girl

I've killed Gascoigne, got a brooch and took it back to the girl, she cried and stopped answering. Wat was the alterative? Just curious.

And what about insight? Does the high amount of it really makes the game harder? And what's the point of having a lot of it (besides summoning other hunter bros)?

OK, well, for this second character I want to do a "full clear" of NG, including all the chalice dungeon stuff (I'm not interested in NG+ at the moment). So it sounds like I should just go with Ludwig's...

I'm certainly no expert but my understanding is that you should spend your Insight as fast as you get it and just save Madman's Knowledges so you can get back up to 10 on demand in order to use the vendor. You can lose Insight from certain enemies later on in the game. I personally lost like 10 insight just from being stupid.

Also, I'm pretty sure you don't get anything from returning the brooch to the girl. But also the brooch is fairly worthless on its own, afaik.
