This is the only one I don't get:

In the part MCA mentions, Feargus is just talking about how they could crowdfund "a game like Fallout" in a "non-traditional manner" (Fig), not making an actual Fallout.

Also:

Instead of simply retweeting Fenstermaker, he just took a screenshot, which also shows that he doesn't follow him.

He mentions the wrong part, it was 58 or so as some other pointed out in that tweet's replies.

Where Feargus says something like "Fallout is Todd Howard's now."

This is the only one I don't get:

Feargus talks about how in this industry you cannot afford to around and do as if you had a say on a franchise you created if you don't actually own the rights.
That's at the moment where the journo alludes to the various misadventures they had with publishers tries to elicit some bitterness on Feargus's part.

Oh, I see.

"Fallout is Todd Howard's now. It's not Tim Cain's and Leonard Boyarsky's or Feargus Urquhart's or Jason Anderson's, it's theirs".

Yeah, that was a really weird comment. I don't know why the hell he included himself there either. Still, he was saying Obsidian likes to play in other people's worlds and they respect the fact they own and control it, which is fair. I'm not sure he wanted to undermine the creators, but then again, Feargus wasn't that much of a Fallout fan back at Black Isle. He actually wanted FO3 to be 3D, less violent and have real-time combat.

lol

I was sort of wondering if I was interpreting some of his previous tweets about Obsidian unkindly, but then he goes and validates me by hatewatching an hour-long Obsidian interview and livetweeting it with "nice bullshit, retard!"

MCA is like a crazy ex-wife at this point when it comes to Obsidian which is fucking sad. I wish he would just let it go.

I remember vaguely an old Feargus's interview where he mentioned that he had to step in as a lead designer of Fallout 2 after Troika guys left. Mobygames seems to confirm this: http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/fallout-2/credits
If I am not mistaken, he was also a level designer for San Francisco in Fallout 2.

Fairfax you should ask Avellone to make a top 10 list of his favorite comics, books and animes. He has a good taste. I remember him talking about "The Reckoners" and I decided to read after that. It was good.

Yeah, I have these and other similar questions planned. Haven't heard from him in a while, though. He seems to be very busy with System Shock, now that he's the Lead Writer.

Seeing how Black Isle owned the IP it makes as much sense using himself in that context as it made using Todd Howard. After all, he had that IP for years after the original creators left Black Isle.

Yeah, as head of Black Isle he "owned" Fallout as much as Todd Howard does now.

I guess it's also charming that MCA doesn't accept the concept of legally owning the rights to something someone else came up with. "Oh, so Fallout DOESN'T belong to Tim Cain?!" Uh no Chris. Did you think it did.

You guys still gonna insist Chris Avellone hasn't turned into an angry man who thinks the world has wronged him? His Twitter feed is just one step from becoming unrestrained rage.

Interplay did, Black Isle was just a division, and it didn't even exist when Fallout was created.

Well right now only one of them is portraying himself on the internet as a bitter individual flinging shit at his former colleagues.

Feargus may have done something terrible to MCA. I'm ready to believe that. But MCA does himself no favours being so publicly petulant when we don't know what's gone on. Feargus, for his part, has stayed cool and just the other week wished MCA well.

I guess MCA didn't keep up with Feargus' interviews at Obsidian. He's always had a big mouth, and said the same things about Bethesda, South Park, Fallout, etc many times before.

He specifically say "Love Obs devs", not "Love Obs". So that part couldn't be clearer. TBH I don't think he's upset, but twitter is just a bad medium for nuanced stances

It looks like Chris is eager to discuss Obsidian sekretz, but doesn't want to be the first one to break them. Now that they have been revealed, maybe expect him to elaborate on them in his usual friendly manner :M

Avellone says Obs. devs because it fits his narrative that everyone at the studio is great except for "the management", which has gotta mean Feargus - he's the partner with the most operational power (he's freaking CEO).

True. I think it was the Fallout tweet that made it all look like he was upset.

Inspired PS:T? Memento came out after PS:T. The amnesiac protagonist was inspired by Zelazny's Nine Princes of Amber.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to know. I never said that PS:T was inspired by Memento. I suspected that both were inspired by the same book.
It's been a long time since I read Nine Princes, but I don't remember the short-term amnesia, which is the crux of Memento, nor do I remember the character leaving clues for himself (which is a part of both). If I were going to pick a better "they stole it!" source, it would be Soldier of the Mist, which contains the the same anterograde amnesia that is in Memento and has the main character writing all sorts of notes to himself as in both.

Also, is there a tl;dr of this whole interview brouhaha?

Avellone's Twitter account basically. He watched the IGN interview with Feargus and then chose to bitch about it publicly on Twitter.
