There's a decent enough chance they don't get an uber-activist judge there, it's certainly one of the more "Republican" parts of California you could do it in, while not being too rural

I looked up the judge in the case. Libs don't like him, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'd be favorable to Chris (conservative men can be just as paternalistic as male feminists, believing women should be coddled and men should just stoically accept abuse from women). He's dismissed a somewhat-high-profile defamation case before but of course that was an entirely different set of circumstances and doesn't necessarily have bearing on this case.

https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/201...0k-to-sterlings-following-failed-countersuit/
The woman scolded by former Clippers owner Donald Sterling for bringing black people to games was ordered Monday to pay over $50,000 in legal fees related to her failed defamation countersuit against the billionaire’s wife, the Sterling family trust and a former Clippers team entity.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard Fruin granted the attorneys for Sterling their request to dismiss V. Stiviano’s claims in November, which allowed the Sterling parties to seek attorneys’ fees.

Shelly Sterling’s attorney, Caroline Heindel, said that the countersuit allegations that her client defamed Stiviano via the national news media by calling her a thief and claiming she embezzled funds and other properties from Donald Sterling were unclear.

HOLY SHITZ!!!

Looks like you have a brilliant future sowing victim currency across social media and cheering as the witch is burned, and you didn't even have to prove anything.

...

Unless you're male, then nobody gives a damn - like there's clearly more philogymy around than misogyny by those standards, unless one were to present a convenient case for misandry. (I always marvel at how any dichotomy of dogma is decided through ecumenical Twitter threads and changes daily. Just ask any PR who made the blunder of using their coined term "womxn" because after getting put on a pedestal the word suddenly became a hate symbol.)

But that doesn't matter anyways to the rabid fringe du jour (once they threw the gays and especially the lesbians under the bus until Ellen Degeneres became Elliot Degenerate for Double Plus Attention Victim Currency).

Just say "It's MA'AM" in your deepest, most resounding voice, and you're golden. There you go, your rapists are now transphobes as well and they never saw it coming, nor consented to it.

Found this with lots of comments about him: http://www.therobingroom.com/california/Judge.aspx?id=2602

Also he's presiding in the County of Los Angeles, which was weird since I was pretty sure they filed in the "County of Orange", but they apparently didn't after looking up the lawsuit again:
SUPERIOR COURT FOR THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA

COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES
Must have misremembered this bit, I guess:
Plaintiff Christopher Avellone (“Avellone”) is an individual who resides in the County of Orange.

They would have gotten an entirely different batch of judges if they did: https://www.courts.ca.gov/2948.htm

Serious discussions on a judge's political bias on what a case's outcome will be is of concern. Everything in america is like this yes?

Not wanting a biased (against you) or activist judge presiding your case seems rather obvious. You for instance wouldn't want this judge in charge of your libel suit regarding sexual assault allegations, no?

Similarly if you're suing a corporation or the government you wouldn't want a corporate cocksucker/lobbyist stooge or or a die-hard apparatchik presiding the case. They may rise over their initial bias given the facts of a case presented and the law, but it's less likely and not a great starting point. It makes sense to try and Min-Max that way if possible.

No I wouldn't want a judge that paraded their politics or philosophies in the courtroom, thankfully I'm not american so that wouldn't happen. It's a bit concerning though isn't it, especially if we consider that per capita the US has the most prisoners...

Judges ain't robots, most cases ain't strictly formally determined. Who thinks otherwise is just a hypocrite. All man and man-machine systems produce subjectively dependent outcome. Especially when it comes to grey area like self-defense or harm from libel. Why would lawyers learn rhetorics, why would they try to look like movie stars - fit, groomed expensive-suited? Because it's not just evidence, it's how you sell it.

But that's MCA who got Beverly-Hills lawyers, not K&J. Where US is fucked up worse than third-world countries is judges decisions are made under harsh public pressure (22 years for Chauvin). Karissa's only chance is to create mass hysteria. Media would help her.

Drunk people can not give consent. Doesn't matter what she thought, said or felt in the moment if she was drunk and if she were, she would have every right to call it whatever she wanted to call it later on, even years later.

And if she were drunk and Chris made a move on her, that is basically sexual assault.

Not really. But I'll let an american lawyer make my point for me:

Angry men afraid that their right to coerce drunk women into sex without getting called rapists making up an absolute binary state, ignoring the gradient from drunk to incapacitated when even the definition of incapacitation is up for debate in a lot of cases. "Her eyes were open and she was mumbling, and I heard yes".

Law is often very dodgy on these things.

You are such a fucking dork. Women often drink to have an excuse to not look like sluts. Drinking kills your inhibition. You do things that you want to do but you lack the courage to do when you are sober. Unless she passed out from drinking and Avellone took advantage, you have no case. They were both drunk and had fun. Chris could also say that he was drunk and the girl took advantage. Wtf is wrong with you people??? It's like you never got drunk at the club an had an one night stand.

You sound like a dork with no game. Sober or drunk , no pussy would touch you.

2/10, made me reply.

If you don't agree with this very fundamental principle on consent, you are a potential rapist.
Every man is a potential rapist since he has a dick you retard. Talk about using platitudes.

I'm sure he is one of those betas who can't get any pussy no matter what they do. No real man would think like him. I know a lot of girls who are "drunk" after 1 glass of "water" when they want to fuck.

Sounds like Cherry Blossom is plugging the same nonsense you always hear.

Women turn into vulnerable victims when even slightly intoxicated without a trace of awareness in them, but men apparently turn into beasts in full control of their faculties.

Conveniently ignores the fact that the vast majority of consensual hookups happen whilst both parties are at least slightly pissed. Who would have thought that a substance that lowers inhibitions would cause people to want to fuck each other?

I think the slightly tipsy lass (trying to drag you into a taxi with her at the end of the night) knows exactly what she wants.

I don't know how exactly retarded is the Amerikwan law system, but as a non-practicing lawyer I can say that in majority of the sane countries being drunk doesn't remove the burden of responsibility from an individual.

Nullifying the consent while being intoxicated secondarily means that one can't properly control one's actions while intoxicated, doesn't bear responsibility for these actions and thus, are exempt from any prosecution or arising responsibilities. This will ruin both Criminal and Civic law systems since people will start committing crimes and deals while being drunk and then nullify them at will

Oh god don't give them ideas. They'll start letting women drivers off if they kill someone whilst drink driving, whilst probably doubling down on the male drivers.

Western people should avoid alcohol in general, let them drink virgin mojitos or some wine in case of the physically/mentally tougher ones.

Irregardless of the verdict his former friends in the Australian games industry have fully turned on him.
Essentially though Chris is fighting for his legacy not so much to return. I think the sentiments even here in Australia would also to some extent apply within the AAA industry internationally as well as its all just a big circle jerk.
I think his working career is over unless he works remotely under alias even if he does win and clears his name.

If he doesn't however clear his name. They'll erase him from history and pretend he never existed. That would be hard to watch your entire lifetime of work be destroyed in an instant.

They were both drunk, but Chris is responsible for his actions whereas she is not responsible for hers...

Do we know they both were? If they were, Chris should also admit to it. I'll admit I don't know where or how to draw lines when both parties are drunk.
Dude. We're talking about Chris Avellone here. Of course he was drunk.

They already have tried to erase his history. Beamdog removed all those videos of him talking about PST etc.

His role in games downplayed as well.

its a dark day for the industry when really amazing knowledge about designing games and narratives is lost forever because "he did a bad thing once".
Chris did something bad because of vice. He gave into his alcoholism which the industry encourages and enables.
He is not unique in this. I am far more interested in the Ubisoft scandal as that has way more wider reaching issues.

I can only hope that out of all of this the executive culture dies in this industry because that's where a lot of the problem stems from. Chris was encouraged to drink because of that culture.
The social environment of the games industry is entirely the problem here and its something that has to either be changed or outright decimated and started over because its the source of so much wrong with games today and the past even.
Richard Garriott has spoken before about the drug culture the industry had in the 70s and 80s. I hadn't realised how big a problem it was.

Its odd how that isn't the focus, instead the focus is on destroying Chris. We have so many widespread problems and its all getting ignored again.

It is the practice of law in anglo cuckistans though. She was drunk, she regrets it after the fact, she claims he took advantage of her being drunk, then he is a rapist.

If only they had sex that night, she could stright up talk about being raped by him and libel case would have zero chance to prove that she is lying.
