It wouldn't be the first time Chris wrote a bunch of content for a game that ended up being unusable. Maybe someday we'll get an in-depth explanation of why these things happen.
Yes, Avellone-feedback is why Alpha Protocol had to go through two Mitsoda-penned drafts before he was ultimately pulled off/possibly fired and Avellone rewrote the entire game himself.
He also honestly wrote about the ME3 endings debacle and he's one of the few conservative gaming journalists. I see a pattern of behaviour.
We know that with New Vegas and Pillars it's because he blew past the specifications to a ridiculous degree. With Dying Light 2 he was trying to go full-New Vegas when Techland didn't have the capability of making something like that. On BL2 he swears he wrote everything to spec.
Well yeah, the point of spending a lot of money to clear his name was for the chance to get to write for games again. Otherwise he would have just retired in luxury and let people believe what they want. He'd be just as much a pariah if he went full-chud, has to signal "I am still one of you." As long as there's a chance, he'll take it.
All he has to do is to just start his own kickstarter game.

Years ago he talked about the possibility of starting his own remote indie studio and very likely since then has come to the conclusion that it's too much work. Far easier to be a part of someone else's thing than to run a business yourself (involves a lot of not-fun stuff you have to do as the Troika boys found out).
He certainly does have the money to do that, doesn't he?
