Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
I've already talked about it in other Gothic related threads, but yes, due to how things work in this game two handed weapons are all around inferior to one handers

That's interesting. I must admit I've always abandoned 1h weapons in Gothic games around early mid game with the assumption that 2hs were better.

I should probably give 1h a proper go as it sounds like they are superior for all intents and purposes. As you say 220 vs 240 isn't a big deal when you factor in strength bonuses and weapon speed.

Do you know where I can find Detlow the hunter? I need to find him in order to make a quest for the royal guard.
In the journal it says that I can find him in the tunnel near the "Big Vineyard". I've been looking for him near Ryta's and Valerio's vineyard but I can't find him...

Leave town through the East gate, then follow the path left a bit. He's right there. I just did this bit.

So I've found another shadowbeast near the city, in the video below I show you how to gut him.

It's sort of similar to how you fight a bear, you want to bait him to do his running attack and hit him while he recovers.

Shadowbeast attacks are very fast and hit very early into the animation, also he will not flinch if you attack him while he swipes with his claws, at least 9 out of 10 times he won't. So I don't really recommend using the trick I've showed in the video about killing bears i.e. canceling attack animation with a step forward, while it still works on a showbeast the timing is much stricter and if you fail he will hit you, and he hits hard. Besides, you won't usually be able to land more than 4 consecutive hits anyway, so it's safer to just do the same thing as I do in the video. Bait his running attack, dodge to protect yourself, hit him, let him swipe and dodge again so his swipe doesn't hit you, hit him again... etc. Repeat this until you win.

While shadowbeast's attack are very fast to come out, they also have a significant recovery time, so it shouldn't be hard to attack him after you successfully dodge. If he decides to do something stupid, then you can just dodge multiple times in a row to create some distance and reset the loop. I think that people generally struggle with shadowbeasts, because they are big, scary and their animations are jerky, but you just need to not worry about it.

Think I've killed like half the island with Timo's sword, at this point it should get some dumb edgy name like: "Bloodrinker's sword of obliteration".

1) Do you know if there's a way to ALT-TAB smoothly? It sometimes works for me (albeit with a delay), but every 3rd time or so I crash to desktop with an access validation error.

2) Is this meant to be played with keyboard only? I used mouse + keyboard in G1-2 without any trouble. But with Archolos I can barely nudge the camera with my mouse, even with the highest mouse sensitivity setting. I'll try adjusting it higher via the ini.

It might be that both of these issues were also vanilla G2 issues, solved via the player kit or system pack, which I guess might not be compatible with Archolos.

Never mind. Solved both issues using my good old Gothic 2 notes.
  • ALT-TAB solved by setting BorderlessWindow=1 in SystemPack.ini
  • Mouse sensitivity solved by setting zMouseRotationScale=6.0 in Gothic.ini.
Also FYI you can enable quick save/load (F5/F9) by setting useQuickSaveKeys=1 in Gothic.ini.

Do not under any circumstances use quicksaves. Save every 15 minutes in different, sequential slots.

After resolving the quest Tidying Up without smearing the shit it still remains in your log. This has got to be a bug right? I've see at least one other person in this thread with this issue.

Are quests in this game time sensitive? Like healing your brother, helping the survivors in the cave, getting new meat for the cook. Or can I chill?

One or two are and it's very obvious which ones. The survivors in the cave are one of the only timed ones afaik. Nothing related to the main quest ever is, even when it says "today is the day of _____" you can just continue fucking around

Archolos City isn't well designed and one really needs that map with the symbols to navigate through it.
There aren't interesting sights which you can use to find out were you are.

The whole inner city without slums or docks looks one of a kind.
It's too big and too empty.
Many people teach one thing and you can ask 'em how they're doing... That's it.

Imo it was a bad choice to put the church of Innos on the edge.
You could have used it to let the player navigate around it easily.

The craft distrinct looks completely unlike the market or the more luxurious area between the moneylender and the nicer tavern. Cities aren't designed to be navigable. They usually aren't "designed" at all, in fact. And there has absolutely without question never been any city in any game with more NPCs who have unique jobs and things to say. It isn't even close.

Maybe Vivec comes close, but Morrowind's NPCs are significantly more primitive.

That statement is just retarded, both irl and in games.

IRL:
1. Cities developed from villages which already have different types of design by the people who formed them.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Types_of_village

2. Large parts of cities often were destroyed and rebuilt to make them more easily navigable.
This already happened with Rome under Augustus (city of bricks to city of marble).

In games:
You wan't to tell me that nobody of the game designers thinks about the city layout in their games? Are you serious?

The fact remains that Khorinis City is much easier navigable with it's central points of interest like the tavern, craftsmen and Vatras dome.
Also the layout of Khorinis city is much easier to understand:
-Elevated rich town and barracks
-Flat craftsmen, tavern and market
-Low slums and docks

Archolos City is mostly flat with narrow alleys all around.

And there has absolutely without question never been any city in any game with more NPCs who have unique jobs and things to say. It isn't even close.
It's just Khorinis stretched at 4 times it's size without the same density of content.

Maybe Vivec comes close, but Morrowind's NPCs are significantly more primitive.
If you unironically like Vivec design i can't help you.
That city is a nightmare to navigate and could well be the worst designed city in a game.

You just haven't played for any significant amount of time if you think archolos has "less content" or is in any way less dense than Khorinis, or if you think it isn't distinct and navigable. There just isn't anything else to say on that front. In terms of unique NPCs, quests, merchants, trainers, and every other metric by which one can interact with a gothic game, Archolos has more. The only real complaint I have about it is that there are too many generic NPCs, but that's why they included notice boards which update your journal with the exact name and location of everyone who sells things or teaches things, and annotated maps.

Your comment about rome is a very specific exception to the general statement I made which included the caveat "generally." Cities evolve as people settle, very few in the world have ever been built from the ground up by an engineer or with any real intent. The church of Innos is where it is because that's where people started burying bodies, most likely, or it was chosen because it was a commanding overlook by the sea.

OK. Why do you think they had to add those stupid notice boards and map with markers?
Because they didn't believe that they had well enough level design so that the player would find all the important people.
So they took the idea of Witcher 3 which also has horrible city design with Novigrad.
