That's a bug, then, I've reported it.
I have a vague memory of those edits needing to have a change trough trainer. You should try giving your shit trough the 'insert ch' chap.
One of the devs commeneted my video saying that it's ineed a bug and they will fix it asap. I think that the staves can be pretty hilarious once they fix the scaling, they are extremely long allowing you to get some free hits against enemies, because the AI wasn't designed to handle such long weapons, have great armor penetration and deal magic damage, which is generally the least resistant damage type in the game. For example, frogmen have something around 100 resistance to blunt and blades, but only 35 resistance to magic, so something like "Judgement of the stars" bypasses their defences entirely.
By the way, do you know what purpose have the lurkers nest you find in lurkers coast and around the city? I destroyed a lot of them but nothing happened and they drop nothing...
I guess that you have found the nests that hunter Carden from Silbach has asked you to destroy. Although he only asks you to destroy the ones around the coast, where the smugglers dumped you off their ship. I have no idea what is the deal with the nests around the city.
I took a look at that spreadsheet and confirmed: 1H OP. They deal the same or more(!) dmg than 2H while attacking faster and having smaller requirements. Weird af coming from people who recognized DEX was OP in the base game, wanted to fix that and then made the same mistake. As is, there is literally no reason to go for 2H (or STR for that matter). I don't know what to think of this.
2h has better range I believe. Though that doesn't really make up for speed and damage in most cases.
Edit: also looking at that spreadsheet, the highest strength 2h weapon goes up to 240 damage, 1h is 220. So 2h is technically king damage wise.
I've already talked about it in other Gothic related threads, but yes, due to how things work in this game two handed weapons are all around inferior to one handers. I straight up tell people to not play with two handers unless they have at least some experience with the game or want to gimp themselves on purpose. To put it shortly - the speed penalty for two handers is just insane and breaks everything. Thanks to it you will be taking hits much more often, having fewer opportunities to attack and the combat will be much clunkier in general. The biggest problem is a very slow recovery after dodging, which makes fighting certain animals and groups of enemies a pain in the ass, it's so bad that certain beasts can basically "infinite" you. You have to keep dodging to defend against their attacks, but the recovery is so slow that they start another attack before you can recover, so you have to dodge again to not get hit and this can go on forever until you allow them to hit you and break the loop, lurkers are probably the best example of this.
Also, a good portion of various tech I've shown in my videos in this thread is only really possible with one handed weapons, because the two handers are just too slow to be able to do anything. There's some interesting stuff you can do exclusively with two handed weapons, but it does not compensate at all for the advantages that one handed weapons have. If you can beat something with two handers, than I'm sure as hell that you will have a much easier time beating it with one handers. Personally, I think that two handers need to deal at least double the damage that one handers of similar level do to even have a chance to compete with them, or their animations need to be redone entirely, because the vanilla ones are just trash.
Very sad that this issue almost never gets adressed in the mods. Despite being a pile of shit Returning actually had a fix for it, it introduced master tier animations for all weapon types, which unlock once you reach 90% weapon proficiency, at that point two handed weapons became significantly faster, not as fast as the one handers, but fast enough to not feel like an idiot while trying to fight, the dodge recovery became significantly shorter too, and generally two handed weapons in that mod dealt at least 100 more damage per hit than the one handers of similar level, so the difference in damage was big. 20 damage difference is nothing, when you factor in that melee damage also depends on your strength, so being able to hit 3 times for 220+your strength and having an easier time to do so is much better than hitting once for 240+your strength damage. In NoTR this was especially noticeable with Beliar's claw, which was so busted that it made two handers completely obsolete.
