It's a typical Raven game where you shoot plastic people with fake guns. Shots don't feel like the connect or have any impact at all, it's just gun go boom and some action figure man coincidentally falls over in front of you. The gore sucks too, for the same reasons. And on top of that it's the most banalshitboring kind of linear corridor shooter possible, a genre everyone is supposed to hate. And yet everyone's constantly simping for these games. I guess if it at least isn't HL2 then actually it's great. Fucking codexers lmao

yeah exactly! except of course a shotgun blast taking off someones arm and foot and spinning the around like a ballerina. or a pistol taking someones head (not so) clean off. have you considered being less of a gay retarded furry and playing the games you shit on so your criticism doesn't sound absolutely fucking braindead?

edit: they took it off abandonware sites because it's on gog? very cool, thanks from germany, you cocksuckers.

Oh hi ugtard-lowkey, how you doin. Yes at least Soldier of Boredom has SOMETHING happen when you shoot someone but that's only really special when compared to other Raven games. It's not about just having that stuff, I want to feel like something actually came out of my gun hit that guy. It needs some really cool particles and stuff. Even 'bulletsponges fly into the air from knockback' Sin lets you explode people with your shotgun, which is much more fun than some disappearing limbs. Doom, Half-Life, ur mom, those are all games that feel like you're shooting.

If the game were otherwise good the patented lame Raven shooting wouldn't be a big of a deal, but it's the most corridor shooter of all time.

SoF is a typical post-Half Life shooter and is pretty decent as far as that went. Likely the last good Raven game along with Elite Force and if you want to be generous the Jedi Knight games (though the only thing i remember from those was the multiplayer).

Wolfenstein from 2009 had surprisingly enjoyable combat, you should try it. The game has some annoying things about its setting and style otherwise.

Its biggest problem (IMO) is that there isn't any practical gameplay drawback in staying in the veil all the time while there are benefits to it, so you end up playing most of the game with everything looking blue and shiny.

TL;DR version: It is the definite and most complete way to play Rise of the Triad, with the devs going above and beyond to add in everything Rise of the Triad related to make the game as good as it can possibly be.

Ever played that kind of game where the creator had an obvious vision and intent, but just fell short of realizing it? This feels like a game where the developer just reached that goal. It's jank, but it has soul.

Also with the throwable wrench, wacky weapons and green slime enemies that split into two upon death this means that this is the first Ratchet & Clank FPS.

Holy cow, Zortch is seriously awesome! I've just finished the demo and immediately bought the full version. The game looks a lot like a classic shooter made with the Quake 2 engine, but it has its own distinct character and never feels like it's just a copy of something existing or like it's being retro for its own sake. I see there is even a map editor included - I wish more modern games would do that.

The game runs fine under Linux with wine, in case anyone is wondering.

Also if you want to buy the game but want the guy to get more money, use the itch.io link instead:

https://mutantleg.itch.io/zortch

IMO with that price the developer isn't just leaving money on the table, they're also taking a dump on the table, putting it on fire and throwing it out of the window.

The game should have been priced at at least $9.95 if not $14.95 and nobody who is into these game and played the demo would be like "nah, it is too expensive, pass" - it is right up any boomer shooter fan's alley (and remember that there aren't really that many people who like these games - not to mention that boomer shooter fans are most likely adults with disposable income instead of young kids who have to decide between a Fortnite skin and your retro FPS).

Also, it was mentioned for a couple of seconds by Civvie but the low price gives it a "cheap shovelware" feel that many will ignore because of it (like CARNAL - check that page, did you know CARNAL doesn't suck and isn't some generic asset flip? Apparently that isn't common knowledge because like Zortch -before Civvie's video- it has been ignored by pretty much all YouTubers that cover boomer shooters, but at least CD-ROM Fossil made a video on it).
