Wasteland 3 *is* the only RPG by genre game in that list. Everything else is RPG by opinion. Come to think of it, was it really the only game of that style to come out in 2020? Guess there is the early access titles like BG3 and Encased, etc. but I can't even recall any other full releases.

It is really disgusting how a mediocre game like W3 is a goty. The codex has gone full on popamole casualtard!
Argument is moot because there are no other valid options. Having gems like Xuan-Yuan Sword VII is the ultimate popamole concession though. Also, It's not that disheartening since "none of the above" is the current winner. If anything all is right in the Codex.

The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk is a far better game by a long shot.

It was a good game all things considered. Its strong points are so well made that they cover up for its weaker points. On a gaming site that awarded GOTY to total trash like Disco Elysium and Pathfinder Kingmaker, i see it as VERY hypocritical to single out Witcher 3, which is far better than both.

Not that any sane individual would take the Codex GOTY seriously. Tell anyone that Codexers believe that Pathfinder Kingmaker or Disco Elysium are better games than Fallout 3,4 Witcher 3, or Skyrim, and they will just laugh at you and honestly call healthcare professionals to look after you.

I see turk working really hard to keep BOTH his tags.
We should make a petition to DU to change his name to Templarouglu The 5th.

Better game, sure.
Better RPG? I don't about that.
Clearly you haven't played it,it is far better rpg than W3. It had good writing, meaningful levelling and fun combat. Whole W3 was mediocre at all of those things.

I have played it. I don't like the humor in it. In general cartoony games are not for me. But might go back. It's got good tactics gameplay. Prolly better than W3, but i prefer being able to create my own custom characters and party and also C&C is better.

Just a reminder that GC's definition of an RPG is, um, rather particular:
It's not just about being able to choose stealth over combat, or different types of combat over the other. There needs to be a personality component just as strong. To me, playing a role must necessarily include a personality component.

Because I think without a personality compoonent, it'll be easier to classify games as something else. Without roleplaying, a turn-based tactics game will just be a tactics game. An action-adventure game will just be an action-adventure game, etc. In TTRPGs, I'm hard pressed to find many games that do not revolve around characters and personalities just as much as combat. Don't see why it shouldn't extend to rpg vidya.

All I'm saying is, you're entitled to your opinion, just like everybody else is entitled not to give two shits about it.
