Pretend I'm an old man who started playing D&D with the Holmes Basic set and spends very little time on the internet "dicking around" anymore. I really have no idea what Extra Credits is responsible for.

Long story short, they started out on the Escapist with their weekly talk. After the kerfuffle there they moved to Penny Arcade, who kicked them (and the far superior Loaded Ready Run crew) out because they wanted to focus on their own content. So now they're on YouTube where they do their thing. From there they post videos that are sometimes insightful, but are way too often filled with "I don't like it, therefore it's bad." or just outright filled with misinformation and lies (their video on sexuality).

When called out on this they either ignore the complaints or mock them.

D&D already started aping Runequest with 3.x when Monte Cook tacked on that bloated skills system. Beyond that, I think you overstate the "danger" of somebody with a couple hundred thousand subscribers expressing his opinion about a game system and giving his preference. If I recall (it's been awhile admittedly) Lindybeige doesn't want D&D to become Runequest, he just wants more people to play Runequest.

My experience is that any changes to game systems are usually driven by financial concerns (getting your existing fans to pay for yet another edition or trying to grow your base) and trying to become like Runequest ain't no path to fortune for Hasbro.

In addition to what you wrote I will add that one of the most consistent and damning criticisms that can be made of extra credits is that they spend the majority of the time in their videos giving their opinion of word definitions, and then proceeding to a summary and ask for a handout.

The implied premise of the video, that of insightful game design commentary, is never allocated any time. Additionally, the definitions they espouse are often wrong.

^ Seems like that would be a great way to do it since people do CYOAs and semi-collaborative LPs.

Yeah PbP for sure. The funny thing is I've actually paid $10/ month for Roll20 for 2 years now and have never used it, lol.

According to /tg/ Zendikar was going to be a setting in 4e at first before being turned into one for M:tG. That's why there's a fuckton of lore for the place.

New adventure incoming, this time it's about Giants! (and dragons) All happening on the Sword Coast of course:
http://www.sageadvice.eu/2016/05/10/a-new-dungeonsdragons-adventure-storm-kings-thunder/
Giants have emerged from their strongholds to threaten civilization as never before. Hill giants are stealing all the grain and livestock they can while stone giants have been scouring settlements that have been around forever. Fire giants are press-ganging the smallfolk into the desert, while frost giant longships have been pillaging along the Sword Coast. Even the elusive cloud giants have been witnessed, their wondrous floating cities appearing above Waterdeep and Baldur’s Gate. Where is the storm giant King Hekaton, who is tasked with keeping order among the giants? The humans, dwarves, elves, and other small folk of the Sword Coast will be crushed underfoot from the onslaught of these giant foes. The only chance at survival is for the small folk to work together to investigate this invasion and harness the power of rune magic, the giants’ weapon against their ancient enemy the dragons. The only way the people of Faerun can restore order is to use the giants’ own power against them.”
Not officially revealed yet, this info has been leaked by a couple of European webstores.

So that monster book is gonna contain two people arguing in the book about the various monsters and giving commentary on the book's content.

It's like Shadowrun, but without the charm.

:prosper: Only 59.99!
Kinda reminds me of 3e's Races of * books, except shit.

This thing is the same price as the Monster Manual. I like 5e's Monster Manual, but this likely contains too much fluff and not enough monsters to justify a similar price.

Been thinking of a EK 11 sorceror 9 build

Rolls are

str 18
con 17
int 12
cha 18

Anyone got any advice for it? like progression feats, or better alternatives?

Well, basically magic making him better at melee than a straightforward fighter is my goal.

Yeah i know, was thinking either paladin 6 sorceror 14 or a EK 11 Wizard 9 (tho in hindsight EK 12 and wizard 8 is just as good but with an extra feat).

Thing is the character concept im trying to pull is very much like a sword singer and paladin comes with a larping baggage that doesnt fit the concept.

Then you should re-think the paladin. Paladins are just people that swear a sacred oath to uphold some rules and that's it.
They're given power by a god and they have to believe in that god and be a paragon to receive the gifts :rpgcodex:
Not anymore. A cause or an idea can give them just as much power now, which tbh isnt bad.
My problem is that even with that, paladins are still a class thats very defined from a roleplaying perspective. And the character i have in mind is going to be more of a travelling martial artist which doesnt quite mesh with this.

Spells will only be techniques, most visual effects will be changed if there is any. Plus being able to learn spells from scrolls will fit the concept of him actually having to research techniques. Havent yet discussed it with the DM in detail, but im planning on having several books worth of martial knowledge.

Sort of, yeah. But obviously a bit more over the top, especially at higher levels. Hes not gonna learn blasting spells but other than that most stuff goes.
