Ok, I'll give some credit to bioware. The sexy-time scenes are not so cheesy and ugly this time around. And you can't nail your companions on your 2nd conversation, but actually have to wait a bit longer that that. I was surprised, and can now see why the raging legions of teenagers on the bioboards OMG-THIS-IS-BUGGED-I-CANT-BONE-MERRIL-ON-OUR-FIRST-CONVO-PLZ-PATCH-NOW.

Well, Bio again gives players only illusion of choice, and consequenses aren't linked to that choice at all. Choices in game, of course, could yield not-so-clear consequences — TW1 ones did, for example. But if I was presented a choice between bringing or not bringing sibling into expedition, and when I chose not to bring him, by returning I'd given news that my sibling was so distraught that he didn't looked where he was going, tripped, hit his head and died — it's not even a choice. It's like someone would blame some WW1 soldier for that he didn't shot Hitler having the chance.

Possibly, because while I haven't played the game, this instance of C&C looks pretty decent of paper - at least by the standards of rigidly scripted CYOA C&C, so whatever is horribly wrong with it must be part of the execution rather than idea.
The problem is simple. No matter what you do, Bethany is lost to you. The only choice, thus, is "in which manner would you like to lose her?", which isn't a choice at all.

What credit? Err. If I'd want Poser porn I'll go and download some. Player can bang romance:

1. Isabella. Slut with the Heart of Gold, who slept with whole Thedas, it seems, and doesn't even wear pants.
Also pull Yoshimo and betrays you, though you can forgive her.

2. OMG SO KAWAII I-WANT-NOMS-HER-HEADZ Merril, who looks like that she was specially designed for animu-loving Talihumpers. She is CLUMSY. And NAIVE. Game can't stress it enough.
And wipes out her whole clan, but how can anyone hold it against her? She is too adorably clumsy!!1

3. Anders, whom they managed to make even more annoying than in DA:A. He corrupted Justice by his mere presence, and now he is all REVOLUTIONZZ!11 Broods, writes manifestos about MAGE FREEDOM, and gradually becomes insane.
And than he blows up a church full of people, to start his revolution. Player can't influence and prevent it in any way. Bioware, please leave tragic themes for less hack-y writers, thanks.

4. Fenris. Broody McBrood albino too-cool-for-school elf, Dante and Sephiroth long lost little brother. I know that Twilight and yaoi fangirls are large share of the market, but did Bio really need to pander to them so?

5. Sebastian. Poor, poor Alec Newman. Reduced to play DLC female-only chaste pseudo-romance.

All and all — if they want romance to be one of their games' main features, they're doing poor work with it. DAO ones were better, ME2 ones were better. Only ones which were worse than DA2 were KOTOR romance and BG2 ones. I think Bio is awfully lucky that most Japanese dating sims are in 2D, don't have exploding enemies, don't play like an interactive movie and aren't translated in English. Or they could definitely drive Bio from business.

Exactly. In the end, you lose her and that really isn't a choice in any regard.

[cheesy romances with socially distorted freaks]

You're absofuckinglutely right, but I was just talking about the visuals: the actual writing of the romances sucks just like before, of course (altho, again, I appreciated that they wouldn't let you fuck them right away like in DAO). Sorry for the misunderstanding. But, no more weird-shaped boobs, no more funky lingerie, no more horrible orgasm-faces.

Ah, I see. Yes, well, Isabella does have a lingerie, which is hilariously more chaste than her usual outfit. And you can't fuck Lelliana or Alistair right away in DAO, only Morrigan or Zevran. But yeah, it was kinda hard not to make something better than DAO's sex-scenes.

The derp roads thing would be awesome if you had to choose which companion to lose.

Isabella doesn't make sense in that aspect, you should be banging her after the first conversation if you play a man. Instead that happens after like 3-4 years and once. You seem to be playing some kind of enuch and while Isabella bangs any men and woman that can walk, she isn't interested in the super-hero you.

Also, when you say you are going to employ a slave instead of having her as slave... Isabella will become your rival. Makes sense for the one risking it all to save slaves herself, right?

I think the worst character is someone you haven't mentioned yet;
Hawke. A very bland and uninteresting person that seemingly is a two-goody two shoes, because that is always his stance when you don't get to choose his response. But at the same time he doesn't seem to care about people dying around him. Regardless of how consistant you are in your conversations choices he will end up a total mess in his percieved personality. also what were his motivation after being rich and having a position? Uh, why didn't his companions get any wealth?

Anyway, I would kick him out of my party if I could.

I must have obtained a "PG12" version, because Isabella actually kept her outfit on during the dry-humping (more like messy making out, really) scene on the bed.

It would have been awesome is the choice had been something like: "save mother" VS "save sibling". But again, another wasted chance (which would have implied catering mother not like the bitch she is and actually making her an active party member, or not having had the sibling as a party member, or the choice would have been obvious for most players -should i save this useful party member or a useless NPC?-).

I haven't shagged Isabella, but I thought that this screenshot is legit.

This is actually from my playthrough, and the SS was taken towards the end of the cutscene. Maybe I missed out on a later occasion to have further, hotter, demi-naked intercourse. Sorry for poor quality but the dex gallery further compresses my images beyond the threshold or redemption.

BTW that screenshot looks PS'ed to me, but I'll leave that to racofer to ascertain. Or maybe it's just from an early press release.

Ah, I see. So that screen is probably from some early build of the game. Well, even clothes are less derp than that burlap-"bikini".

Indeed. In fact, I am gonna borrow the expression "burlap-bikini".

So VD, I presume you've played the game by now. Was I correct about the companion interaction system?

I've just finished the Deep Roads "expedition".

The influence system is the same as before, i.e. you don't influence anyone, but the companions approve or disapprove of your actions. Their specialization skill trees have two passive bonuses, one for "the PC is a true bro", the other is for "gawd, this fucker drives me nuts". Usually, the true bro inspires much ass kickery, while the fucker puts people on guard, i.e. offensive vs defensive bonuses.

That actually sounds pretty cool, with potential to be great if combined with a morale mechanic (morale failure being a consequence of intense mistrust).

I'm more interested in how personal quests are handled in relation to your standing with companions but I guess you're not that far in game yet.

Anyway, cheers.
