Been doing pvp for a while now and I really like it depending on how I initiate it. I prefer to either summon someone for pvp, or at least go ember and then wait to be invaded because then those people tend to be more sensible. I ran into a vary varied group of people this time compared to last time. A lot of people using heavy weapons like fume knight gs, yhorms machete and the dragon slayer armors axe. Man, Fume knight ugs is really hard to counter in a fight. It has too good of a range and it seems to be one of the few weapons that poise kind of works. Once the animation starts, even if I attack the guy, they won't stop moving and the shit stun locks the hell out of me.

That's hyper-armor.

That's why you see all these fuckers running around with havel's greatshield and fume's greatsword wearing rags. Meta crap and shit no poise mechanics.

Well, after a couple of runs I tried to beat Pontiff with a shield. And it worked like a charm (3rd try but it could have been the first try as well because I didn't do anything special).

The boss is nearly impossible if you fight him straight (with roll and shit) - he punishes every wrong roll. However the fight is trivialized if you use an shield and you hug him to death.

So, I don't know. There is no pattern to be learned. I hate this kind of fight. It's stupid despite all the flashy effects.

You can hug Pontiff without a shield as well, and he's very learnable in general - beat him easily on my first try during my second playthrough.

If I upgrade storm ruler, will its special attack do more damage to Yhorm?

I've beat pontiff almost 10 times now, I don't think he punishes rolls that much. He attacks over the player and if you are close enough, he will easily attack over your character a couple of times.

I had good laugh when I saw 3 chests guarded by Outrider Knight and these were legitimate chests. From even placed them in such positions to just screw around players who got raped by Mimics and don't know about chain give-away (like in the room right from Yhorm, that was nasty to place two of those next to each other).

Weird things have been going on in PVP. I have been waiting to be summoned as a blade of the darkmoon but it isn't happening. So I try to be an invader but I'm not having the best success because my level is too high. I invaded some guy and he gets a blade summoned for him yet I couldn't be summoned, bullshit.

Something weird happened though and when I hit the blade after he evaded, I one shotted him. Then the host came at me then ran away and he just automatically died too. This all happened after anothe rinvader jumped in.

What level are you? I wore darkmoon from near the end of NG at level 90ish to the end of NG+ around 160 and I only got summoned twice. And both of those were after 150. The whole thing is a shitshow despite whatever rebalancing they claimed a while back.

Would anyone be down to play a Souls game that's basically just one giant dungeon? Something similar to Ultima Underworld, where you have many layers that get more deadly as you go deeper, with different architecture for each zone. When playing through Irithyll dungeon and then the Profaned Capital I was disappointed it just stopped there and I wanted to keep going deeper. You'd still have NPCs and quests and maybe a central hub somewhere like Firelink/the Nexus, except all the zones would be underground dungeons, caverns, tombs or whatever that got progressively more deadly the deeper you went. Kinda like the first Diablo.

Also happens to be From Software's greatest game, and, without the least exaggeration, almost on par with UU. I would love to see a KF style game of this quality again, combined with some of the signature Souls mechanics. Alas, we'll continue to get an ever increasing focus on spastic rolling, third-rate action combat and idiotic PvP; combined with the absolutely awful Bonfire warping rubbish designed to appeal to cretins.

Yeah, I never managed to finish that one. The movement scheme was so damn slow, it became annoying after a while.

Started playing it a couple days ago. First impressions:

  • Faster pace feels weird. Fuck Bloodborne
  • Weapon arts are a bit of a letdown
  • Level design seems much improved
  • Game looks gorgeous
  • Magic seems worse,
  • Enemies are much smarter. That's nice, i guess
So far I'm enjoying it, tho I don't think I'll spend 500 hours like I did with previous ds games. Either I'm burning out or this game is a bit on the "meh" side. Thoughts?

It was the same for me in the beginning, but after a while things felt right again. I think things clicked for me somewhere at the undead settlement.

I'm quite impressed by some if the invaders this time. They really do act like real invaders people. Alva killed me the first time with his riposte.

I managed to kill two princes. I did them two days. Then I found what was the problem. I summoning all NPC I can because it's more fun in group, but it increases health spectacularly and they were killed relatively quickly when second prince joins.

So for some reason I decided to check some weapon numbers. Conclusion: holy shit straight swords are op. Many of them have more damage than some 'great' weapons. That's ridiculous. What is even the point of another playthrough when the best weapon in the game is found in the first level(Astora straight sword).

This. I've started the game 10+ times and that sword is simply the best for 80% of the game. They even drop the Raw gem in the High Wall of Lothric which is basically the first hour of the game.

Playing more pvp and I've found a good enough build I can settle on. Dragonslayer's greataxe is really good for damage, too bad the range isn't very good.

I'm finding that parry is too powerful in this game. You can one shot someone with it.

I found some DS1 shit in this game with someone sprint backstabbing me. Then ran into two overpowered sorcerers that used a combo of soul spear & homing souls.

Katana wielders and dual wielders are the worst. They either go for running attack or use the weapon art all the damn time.
