The only mod you need for D2 is plugy. You get all the new functionality that the remaster has (bigger stash space, shared stash, can use /players), but better. It also doesn't come with the lame new graphics and you don't have to rebuy the game you already own.

After looking into it, between the fact that the designer was black and the concept art, I do think the Paladin was supposed to be black, or at least an extremely swarthy man.

That said, this thing of making him a full-on sub-Saharan African who is growing an afro and looks like he just stepped out of the jungle and put on a suit of armor is a bit of a stretch from the originals - but not as much as turning the Assassin into Kim Jong Un's sister or turning the Amazon into Bruce Jenner.

I can't say I disagree, but it's a stylistic change rather than a complete retcon of his race or sex.

When I think of D2's paladin I think disciplined, stoic and virtuous. This dude looks like a war vet in a constant state of dissociation. Lights are on, nobody's home. Has given up on grooming himself, etc. I do like the armor at least.

Zeal, not Stoicism, is the virtue you're looking for in religious fighting men. It's not enough to endure, they must overcome and be moved to feats of valor in the face of great evil or adversity. As for the rest, Cleanliness is next to Godliness. This Nu-Paladin is decline.

This is an improvement. If you live out in the wilderness as a dirt-worshiping heathen you shouldn't look like an unsullied, red-haired Nicholas Cage. At least he has a proper beard now and that bear paw shawl has been fixed to not look absurd.

The only other one that's acceptable is the Necromancer who at least maintained status-quo. The rest are just plain awful.

I like the controller support, playing as a furry currently. Remake is ok but nothing impressive.
If you are looking for a new arpg and can purchase only one I'd suggest Last Epoch.

The game becomes a lot more relaxed with a controller. I am surprised how well it was implemented.

Too bad the lag makes the game unplayable.

I died out of thin air not too long ago. I thought it could be arrows but no on was within 2 screens of any point that I could see. Monsters do teleport around though, that's how bad the ping is.

I thought fixing the lag would be the one thing they might try to do for the Remake since the original release of D2 is unplayable on b.net thanks to the lag (not that you'd want to play there anyway since everyone just bots in their private games). Wow if they are making the remake run off those same servers.
