Torchlight 2 was probably best arpg "out of the box". They didn't want to work on it or do a worthy follow up though....

Except the itemization was retarded and every skill was OP no matter what you choose, then you were forced to play on the hardest difficulty and find out that there was not a single minute put into balancing. And I'm not talking about autistic balancing, but stuff like insane HP bloat on everything and normal mobs one-shotting your geared and optimized character if you are not insanely overleveled.

Although it seems to be a foregone conclusion that almost every arpg will now gouge you for cosmetics. Path of Exile does it.

While POE is free, there are two problems with how the game handles cosmetics, as I see it. Apart from a few measly items, the only price groups that exist are "expensive" and "super expensive", and the other being that the regular gear in the game is both bland and lacks variety on purpose to borderline force people into buying more stuff than just stash tabs.

In PoE I was able to make Crook Mofus look like Crook Mofus with a viable Crook appropriate skills build and gear, so there's that.

So you spent a grand total of like $700 just for Diablo 4. People think I'm retarded.

Tbf I bought a steam deck and have only turned it on like 3 times.
I bought my first-ever custom computer for XCOM 2. How dweeby am I? :P
Xcom 2 is awesome though. Diablo 4 on the other hand well...
True dat. Annoying what T2 did to the launcher and indirectly to the modding community though, but oh well.

Lol noob. I have never bought a PC that was ready to use. It was always get parts and get it working myself.
Although I have to admit I have not done that for 7 years or so as gaming PCs are a luxury now.

No no no, I don't mean an Alienware or something like that, I mean my local techie guy helped me e-shop and did the assembly. I gave him the specifications, he gave me the price, we did business, and lo it was good. Guy's swell, total professional.

That is also not what I am talking about. You paid 20% more than if you just bought parts yourself and assembled it.

Yeah, I know, but I didn't know how to do so at the time. :U

Plus, as I said, he deserves the money. Always helped my folks out with their comp problems at a fair price, and if he couldn't fix it he didn't charge for repairs.

That is not something I'd go around bragging about.
I am not bragging about the second part. But that is reality over here since globohomo started their 2020 plan of removing Trump from office with their plandemic and continued with war. PC part prices went through the roof along with all the basic living expenses.
In few years when things go back to 2019 levels I will get my next PC.

Man, quit being a paranoiac, it doesn't take a galaxy brain to know prices went through the roof because of cryptomining and other related bullshit.

GPUs yes but everything else also went up due to chip shortage. And then rise of energy prices and people making weapons instead of useful stuff made everything go up even more.

You mean TFTD, right? Right??
Well, you're not wrong...

(Ironically I think I've played more ZDoom on this thing than XCOM 2 by this point, at least up until recently. Go figure.)

and the other being that the regular gear in the game is both bland and lacks variety on purpose to borderline force people into buying more stuff
This hasn't been true in years. All unique armours have dedicated 3D art now.

If you're at the stage in the game where you're actually bothered by the looks of your character and have exhausted the possible combinations via the very affordable skin transfer system (0.5-1$ per skin) AND you're still unwilling to buy one of the supporter packs that comes with a full set and a bunch of points to spend, then you're a cheap ass nigga.
