First two games were ok back in the days, but i wouldn't put myself through torture of replaying them again. Its sad that the games with such interesting setting have gameplay that is the most repetitive, braindead and grindy shit ever.
that's the hook of ARPGs tho, you grind, grind, grind for those loot drops. It's like gacha, or casinos. The story is there to please the plebs, but these games are all about the grind.

I read something about D3 development, that back when Boyarsky worked at Blizzard after Troika shutdown and his burnout and he had this idea to make Diablo 3 more like a proper rpg or something with choices and branching story but they laughed him up lmao.

I would actually play this kind of Diablo spin off. Or at least would have played it back in the days.

Guys I caved in and started playing this.
Only to be reminded that all the Diablo games feel like you're not supposed to actually be enjoying playing them. Do you feel the same way?
For example PoE and recently Last Epoch have a completely opposite feeling to them: here's lots of cool skills and items and enemies and you player enjoy the shit out of our mechanics and spectactle.

DIV look really pretty I admit and that's really the only reason I keep playing now.
Uh huh.

Who sent you? Was it Kjaska? I bet it was him wasn't it you sick son of bitch. Tell that pillow biter to shill his fag game somewhere else.

It's odd you're not enjoying the spectacle, cause it seems to be one of the few things D4 does exceptionally well: knocking shit around with just the right amount of ragdoll physics and damage type leading to different death animations.
In contrast, Titan Quest and Grim Dawn really show their age in this regard.

Honest question: when does Last Epoch get good? Skill customization was outstanding, but that's about it.
Early game locations were dull as fuck and so was enemy design. A handful stood out, but at some point all I was fighting was spitting turd-worms, biting turd-worms with an odd lizard thrown in for variety.

I’ve just re-listened the OSTs from D1 and D2 made by Matt Uelmen and then followed up by the D4’s and oh my dear god, how just how is it possible to fall from such a greatness to this.. absolute blandness? I must say it does try to mimic its predecessors, but it’s more of a cargo cult than an homage. And it’s baffling. It’s not that there were no good composers nowadays with their own vision. Yeah Matt Uelmen will forever stay unsurpassed, but the funny thing is nobody‘s even tried.

The revised Act I might help with this (I don't know, I haven't played it through since that update), but later on, there are more interesting enemies like fiery birdman crusaders, etc. that swoop in, etc. and some interesting locales like the grinder soul factory thing.

I think the recent patch deleted five chest keys from my inventory. The ones you buy with "murmuring obols", or whatever.

I'm now Lv.58, and after dabbling in endgame for a while, I think that both dungeon bosses and other bosses you fight in sidequests are just too weak. Some of them do decent damage, but they have way too little health and defence to stand against your ever more powerful char. They were way more fun to fight when I was Lv.15-30 then now. As soon as you apply vulnerable status to them, they go down as a sack of potatoes. Granted, vulnerable status feels pretty OP and could use a slight nerf, IMO.

Real Diablo 3 is Divine Divinity.
try Grim Dawn, PoE or Titan Quest
All of these are worse than D4.
how is D4 better than Grim Dawn?
D4 has a beautiful art style (good-looking isometric-view graphics are a rare thing to behold, these days), solid gameplay mechanics, and a lot of enemy variety right off the bat. I'm in the middle of Act V of the main campaign (level 45), and I find that I must tear myself from the game because it's addictive.

The one time I tried Grim Dawn, I found it to be a murky, plodding slog. It's also quite ugly/off-putting visually, just like all Diablo clones (and D3), and I had to force myself to keep playing it and maybe get to the part where it gets good.

Ya know what Skin? You're an alright dude. Fuck these mouth breathers. Let them peddle their poor man's Diablo knockoffs. We got the real thing baby.

There is only one Diablo. I pay no attention to any of it's many imposters.

Holy shit! The prophecy is coming true!

For real though they have to stop making cosmetics for the fucking Druid. There's a new one in the shop. NO ARMOR CAN MAKE THAT CHARACTER LOOK GOOD. He looks like Brendan Fraser in The Whale.

Fucking add a cool cosmetic for the Rogue already you clowns. Stop wasting time and resources on the character who's special power is congestive heart failure.

Western developers ultra-focused on making characters 'realistic' and 'representative'

CAPCOM:

Pretty bad example because Manon looks like a tranny and is absolutely ugly as fuck. SF6 has a lot of design-by-committee characters like that godawful Guy ripoff, except qute black ninja gurl from da hood wif a walkman spray canz n shieeeet. She even got da nice treadz yo.

Capcom is not as thoroughly pozzed as most Western studios yet, but it's getting there pretty quickly.
