I will still say that D4 is an ok game, but simply lacks enough replay value to work as a long-term live-service experience. Trying to imitate POE was a bad move and has just led to game being constantly unfavourably compared to it. Should've just tried to do their own thing, but it's obvious these devs either don't have enough creative vision for that, or/and the suits are calling the shots to such an extent that their hands are simply tied.

That trailer is horrendous wtf. What's with the mock 80s blood font? I think Blizz are taking the piss at this point.

What't the bloody point to put it on steam when you still need to have a battlenet account to play the game?

Because Blizz are dying to give 30% of that 70 Euro price tag to Gabe. Nah, it's because Blizz are morons.

Lol, they fucked up again. And again. Latest new "bug" is a doozy. So they introduced a streamer mode to D4 in S2... but they also introduced, apparently semi related but also unrelated, a "feature" whereby no matter what your account settings are, your real life name appears next to your character name when you look at yourself in a clan. Allegedly this doesn't show to other players (although there are reports of it doing so despite them having realid turned off), but it does always show to yourself, so anyone who happens to stream or take a screenshot without turning on streamer mode is doxxing themselves. Not to mention the just... basic immersion and preference factor of most people not wanting to see their real name plastered next to their fantasy character.

For obvious reasons I won't be showing a screenshot of this, but it's out there. Looking it up, apparently this is something that has some history. I do of course remember the debacle that initially got them to stop using realid back in 2010 (their own employee got doxed for trying to prove it was no big deal), but there's been more recent stuff where in Call of Duty some streamer got doxxed by ingame chat showing the realid name when it wasn't supposed to, etc. I'm honestly shocked they're still trying to make this a thing, it's a great way for them to run afoul of privacy laws considering they never ask you if you want it and just throw it on by default.

How do they even have the people's real names?

From their battle net account, I'd assume? Probably not all of those are actual real names, but yeah.

Most people have them on there. From credit cards, subscriptions, etc. It's really hard to actually make real world financial payments without exposing a real identity, unless you regularly engage in fraud and use other people's names.

That's what makes what Blizzard did (and is still doing, it seems) so wild, though. Usually companies at least try to present a facade of trying to protect people's private details that have to be exposed when making purchases and verifying their identity. Turning around and without permission just throwing that information out to the public is still enough to piss people off. It's one thing if your business model is "We are the place to put your family networks" ala Facebook, but there is no real expectation when you sign up to play Overwatch or Diablo that you are also signing up to have your real name shown to millions of strangers because Blizzard decides it is anti-toxic.

Why would anyone enter their real name into a battle.net account?!

FYI, you don't need to enter any name for online credit card purchases, either. ABC XYZ is sufficient. And it's not fraud.

Merchants are supposed to verify your identity with the billing address, which includes your name. If you've never had a transaction declined while entering bunk info, I don't know what to say... I've had them declined for entering my address slightly differently from the usual format.
