So the game tries to push the player to rush right to the objective, because otherwise they'd "just walk around."

Didn't you already talk about that before? Again, I think they put in more obvious solutions for players that are too inept at figuring out stuff themselves (no wonder after years of quest-compass).
They don't discourage people from "walking around" or exploring stuff, however.
There are a lot of legitimate complaints to be leveled against them, but this isn't one of them.
Almost every more in-depth review I've seen so far mentioned that there is a lot of shit too be discovered if you don't directly rush to the objective and you should, indeed, do so if you want to get the most out of the game.

Blink should have had a mana cost.
I actually thought it does, as blinking several times in a row just cost me my entire mana bar. I think any power used before your mana bar regenerates costs mana.
I meant it should have a higher cost than the mana regen, at least on higher difficulties. Would have made its use more situational and normal jumping more useful.

Yeah, I mentioned that example before. I thought it showed how stupid the RPS article was, so I mentioned it again. But perhaps if I bring up an example somewhere else I should never mention said example again? Maybe we should never bring up the Fallout skill system or the IE RTwP system again.

Again, I think they put in more obvious solutions for players that are too inept at figuring out stuff themselves (no wonder after years of quest-compass).

Why not? The guy that play-tested the game said that that was so annoying that he actively avoided the diary because of it. And he liked the game. I don't know how common it is because I haven't read a lot of previews, but it's indicative of how the designers set up the game. As is constantly displaying the objective. Does that mean that the game will suck? No. But does that mean that the game seems (at least in some places) to encourage people to focus on the objective and not to just wander around? Yeah. Which is why it's dishonest for RPS to say that that isn't the way the game is set up, an blaming it on lazy and greedy gamers.

What difficulty you're playing with? Even on Hard the mana bar doesn't go all the way back to full it seems, you get only partial regen.

Every time you use an ability, a fixed amount of mana is regenerated. This amount is the same as the cost of using Blink, hence Blink is free unless spammed. Playing on Very Hard.

Codex Year of the Donut Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
First impressions are good, though I feel Blink should have had a mana cost. Playing on Very Hard with all retard aids off is satisfying so far. I was somewhat disappointed when I couldn't complete an optional objective without the retard marker but Harwey assured me on Twitter that it was an anomaly and that (unlike certain other games) they really have gone to lengths to make sure it's designed without the markers in mind.

Seriously folks, this and DX:HR are the ideal evolution of "AAA", a good game that has optional aids to make it playable by retards.

That is good to hear.

I think the closest everybody should expect in terms of gameplay is, unsurprisingly, Arkane's own Dark Messiah. Action game first and foremost, but with stealth elements.

$2.50 was a good price for Dark Messiah. $60, not so much.

They say they don't want a situation when blink would be unusable.

Then they should have let your mana regenerate to Blink's cost once it was empty. Now Blink costs nothing even if you're at 100% mana.

Do you mean something like DX:HR? It would only increase dependency on consumables, and had no real effect otherwise. Now you are punished when you need to use it quickly again without rest, which is actually better.

Yes, like in DX:HR. How is having no punishment when using it slowly better than always having a cost?

I was going non-lethal but there are so many ways to kill people that just pressing control behind them or firing sleeping darts feels like a waste, restarted to go full psychopath

This is exactly what I liked on this game, it's rewarding both ways. (You would have problem with ending however, you probably wont mind.)

It's nice for simulation of living on the edge, but it increases reliance on potions massively. Blink, oh fuck quickly drink a potion, blink, blink, blink is somehow worse than blink, oh fuck, blink blink, I wasted a lot of stamina be trying to get out of problem, drink a potion.

The first situation makes potions a must, the second makes them important only for certain situations.

Well, I just finished the first mission. The game is good and polished, but it depends on how you play it. I take my time, explore every shit and I try not to kill anyone who is not a complete bastard. Like this, is somewhat of a decent Thief, but is not up there.

On the other hand, the stealth approach seems like larping when there are so many ways to kill shit. The combat is somewhat reminiscent of Dark Messiah, but not very challenging because you are basically a Terminator in that world. I honestly don't understand this type of game design.

In the end, one thing that I definitely like are the details build within the game world. They are really nice. Until now is not better than Bioshock, but it might become in the end.

I will probably buy it in the future, but not at the current price.

So ultimately it's kind of a partial mana regen... not sure how I feel about that because it doesn't *just* work for blinking, but for everything else as well.

Problem with a game like this -- and I'm not holding it to full-on RPG standards -- is that, yes, it does amount to E-LARP'ing if you don't put some kind of consequence/alternate reactions to not using stealth or whatever. If it's just stealth versus taking names and splitting wigs and wutwut. To say it's not better than Bioshock is well... that's setting the bar extremely low.

Thief had this because -- as I believe sea pointed out (and we all know it) -- most enemies would wreck you in a one-on-one situation. I get the feeling in this game you could probably take on ten guys at once with all the overpowered abilities.

To be fair, the missions change based on how you play. If you go action-oriented and kill lots of people, you get more and tougher enemies, and apparently your objectives can change a bit too.

What was the first game that started this button prompt shit for basic actions? You could be 20 hours into a game, and they'll still be reminding you to press ______ to open a door. Annoying.

Not sure if ghosting gets you a unique ending (different from the 'good' low chaos one, that is), seen some sources claim there's only two endings, while others say there's 3 or more. Guess it's a mystary.
