Alas it's developed by Bethesda.
Nope.

Because I state the facts?

Or will you now tell me about how Syndicate was developed by Starbreeze, Amalur was developed by Big Huge Games, Bully was developed by Barking Dog, Mafia 2 was developed by Illusion Softworks, Renegade was developed by Westwood, Diablo 3 was developed by Blizzard North etc?

In case you didn't know Arkane is nothing but an inner studio of Bethesda that has little to do with original Arkane.

Prove it. (and just who are the "original Arkane", anyway? They've only made two games!)

The same as with other devs? Once independent and making something good they all got bought, many key people got told to GTFO, and then they were thrown to make all kinds of shit with nothing but a big name for little gullible morons who only fap to names, not the quality of products.

Not that Arkane is a great name, considering how in the past 6 years all their achievements were co-developing Bioshock 2 and Call of Duty World at War and a shitty failed mod for HL2 before Jerry Bruckheimer got an idea to make a shitty clone of Bioshock Infinite.

Key people laid off? Nonsense. Let's have a look at the Arx Fatalis design team and what they're up to now (info taken from LinkedIn):

Raf Colantonio, Lead Designer: still at Arkane, obviously
Julien Roby, Designer: still there
Marco Mele, Designer: still there
Christophe Carrier, Designer: still there

Pascal Dubois, Designer: no info found
Cyril Meynier, Lead Programmer: I haven't been able to find info on his current job, but I'm pretty sure they have a competent programmer anyway

Those are six key people who worked on Arx. At least four out of six are still there.

So they still have 1 CEO and 3 level designers intact? That's reassuring. I'm sure with Harvey Smith, the DX:IW guy, being less important "co-creative director" working under worst moneybags the bright future awaits them.

Eh, Skyway, the point is that they have almost exactly the same design team intact that they had back when they designed Arx. They have always been a small studio.

And another point is that your claim that they "told key people to GTFO" was, as usual, pure bullshit. The key people back then = key people now, Harvey Smith being the only major addition.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I wanted to actually reply to skyway but then I realized it was skyway and arguing is pointless anyway because any game is shit by default.

No they are not. Level designers do jack shit on game's design.

Although I concur. With Harvey Smith (who was also creative director of such an awesome game Blacksite: Area 51 before he got into Arkane) being the actual designer there and one of the leading ones at that they will fuck up even without Zenimax help.

So who designed Arx Fatalis, then? If it wasn't Raf Colantonio ("CEO" as you call him, and lead designer and game director on Arx), nor were it the people actually listed as designers on the game, I wonder who it was in your view.

The contents of Arx Fatalis were obviously teleported into the minds of Arkane's programmers directly from the metaphysical collective intelligence of Looking Glass Studios, which is floating somewhere in the astral void like Myrkul's corpse in MotB. :obviously:

And now something totally unexpected: Bethesda announcing pre-order incentives.

Here's the full list of what individual retailers are offering:
  • GameStop - Arcane Assassin downloadable upgrade pack, Dishonored tarot cards
  • Best Buy - Shadow Rat downloadable upgrade pack, Whale Oil USB lamp
  • Amazon - Backstreet Butcher downloadable upgrade pack
  • Walmart - Acrobatic Killer downloadable upgrade pack
  • Target - Smartphone Dishonored decal
Suppose if I pre-order on Steam I'll get all 5 powah-upgrade packs at once?

Moar like you won't get shit. But all of those will be offered as DLC two weeks after release.

I wouldn't exactly call it a gameplay trailer since pretty much the only gameplay part we see is cutting throats. I'd like to see more of the cool stuff the designers were talking about, but meh. Still have (somewhat high) hopes for it.

Well, one can hope that this is only because the marketing guys determined that showing pictures of cutting throats will be better recieved with their focus group or some shit like that, while the game will indeed have the cool stuff they promised before.
On the other hand, it's published by Bethesda/Zenimax, and looking at the typical bethspeak (i.e. plain lies) we get before they release some new game (RadiantAI anyone?), it might just as well not be in the final game...

We'll see.
