I think there's a difference between not caring and not showing you care :smug:

Sometimes you never know.
The lack of visible reaction is the same in either case. Better than any tags would be snubbing PoE in some way.

Thank you, for the accurate answer. Also it is quite correct that he had a major impact on the campaign of The Mandate. I'm a positive case for this statement, because i would not knew about The Mandate and therefore would not backe The Mandate, if i had not the desire for some laughts. But my statement is also based on the 5% Quantil, which has a high rate of expectancy to appear on the distribution of people who watch him for different reasons.

Do you know what smart is? Smart is doing something, that pays your bills, that you have fun with, with people that you like, and doing it anytime you want, without any legal / law persecution. This is the knowledge of what could be a cow and how to milk it.
Stupid is then doing something that you don't like, with people that you don' like, and doing it always or at times that suck. Making it even worse if it cannot pay your bills and / or if you are under legal / law persecution.
To have a different taste or opinion, does not make you or him in that case stupid, just different. But do you know what you become, if your think and if you say that a taste or opinion makes a person stupid? A TASTE / OPINION NAZI.
I'm a freedom loving human, therefore i respect other people's lives and stay out of many things, as long as it is with mutual consent of all involved people. Like the Bedroom, Kitchen and Living room. (Attention: Transmitted symbols.)
To state a difference between us:
You watch some feminist films and i watch film noir. ( A modern sci-fi take.) I love Blade Runner, and you ?Hunger Games? . But i don't think that you are stupid, just because you have a different taste, opinion and desire. Think about it.

Divinity: Original Sin
PE is the most banal of all, don't fool yourself
Banality is not an issue to most people, considering the popularity of Oblivion and Dragon Age. As Josh says, yes there are a lot of people on the internet who hate elves and dwarves but they're vastly outnumbered by people who really love elves and dwarves.

So PoE will be the Oblivion of crowdfunding times. As long as it sells well (which means more than DOS).

I would personally be absolutely thrilled if PE's combat is even close to as fun as Divinity's. Expecting much worse though, since it's Obsidian and RTwP, and everything I've read from Sawyer makes me expect overbalanced mediocrity. But who knows, maybe he is the game design savant Roguey paints him as and he'll make it work. Backer Beta launches soon, and all will be revealed then.

if 1/20 or 1/10 (which is quite possible)
quite possible based on what?
It is based on speculation of course, but let's see for example in Mandate campaign, I'd argue that he single-handedly saved a whole campaign with his support video (published on 20th)

It's not unreasonable to think considering how proportionally smaller the number of backers usually is to buyers, that many of his fans would buy the game based on his recomendation.

I think his dumb ass viewers just like the idea of a Man Date.

Nah PoE's combat will be utter shit. It'll be a storyfags wet dream though.

I just got an alert from the PoE thread, the WL2 thread and this thread and in each thread, Roguey has once again made the thread about him rather than the game.

I am of course very pleased that it couldn't even hit the heights of Shadowrun Returns.

Roguey is currently in the first of five stages of grief: Denial.
Shadowrun Returns is a shit cRPG game compared to Original Sin. It was a breath of fresh air - sure - but it was obviously watered down in several aspects; scope, user interface and save functionality to name a few. This was likely done to increase its sales landscape into the tablet market without increasing development time.
I guess what I'm getting at, Roguey-poo, is that you're a turd. One of those turds that speaks ill of something great even though they haven't experienced it for themself. Have fun finding games that meet your ludicrous expectations.
Another day on the Steam top sales list for Divinity. I have high hopes for Planescape and Pillars, too. And for drowning more children in Wasteland 2.

The RTS part in DC was annoying (I have no interest at all in the genre and everyone who has says it's mediocre at best) but the amount of lulz i got from that game between battles was easily worth suffering through it. Still, 65 dollars for TWO copies of DOS + DC is NOT merely a preorder discount.

People. You are using the term 'retard' too often, to describe people who have a different taste / opinion. AngryJoe is a smart hombre. He has made his hobby to his job and knows how to use youtube for this need. There is nothing retarded about this. It is smart. And his reviews have quite an entertainment factor. His outlook on Fallout 3 and the Codex one may differ, but that does not mean that the codex is right and he is wrong. Every medal has two sides. And to see both sides, you have to look from two different angles. You can say that Fallout 3 is a bad RPG, or a good told free exploration FPS with RPG elements. What you see depends on you and your taste / opinion.

But back to the numbers:
Angry Joe has an average of 1 Million views per review, if 1/20 or 1/10 (which is quite possible) buys a game because of his review, then this will accumulate to around 50k-100k sales.

Roguey do not lose track, for what is important:
A good entertaining RPG, and this is very good fulfilled by D:OS. There is nothing good about that, if it would in sales numbers underperform, not even for Pillars of Eternity.

Pete Hines is a smart guy - whilst he's rather bad at interviews (his interviews scream 'I'm a marketing suit who doesn't play games'), he's refined Bethesda's marketing strategy down to such a fine art that even his more retarded moves could plausibly be strategic.

Todd Howard is a smart guy - he's never led a good game (though he co-led a great game in Morrowind), but every interview I've read of his indicates that he knows exactly what he's doing and is pragmatically walking a line between his idea of a great game (Ultima 7) and what he knows will sell megabucks to the masses. Of course, he knows nothing about story structure, is seemingly incapable of working with writers to the point that even their efforts to poach good writers fail to deliver dividends, and lacks artistic discipline (Todd's 'rule of cool' and its deleterious effect on immersion), but I don't doubt the guy could walk into a senior position in any company, in any era, of gaming.

David Gaider might be a smart guy, not really sure - his early work plus Ascension shows he knows level and encounter design, and even his bitter critiques of 'hardcore fans' indicates that he understands their wants. He comes across as someone who has defected from Codexer-style game tastes, and is incredibly defensive about it. He's terrible at taking criticism, and he'll never be a good writer unless that changes (I don't think he realises how badly his ability to use his position to sidestep the years of editorial knock-backs and rewrites is undermining his aspiration of being a novelist independent of gaming). But it's entirely plausible that much of his weaker work is a knowing appeal to the market.

Angry Joe is not a smart guy. Okay, that's harsh - for all I know, he might be a mathematical genius with an astounding comprehension of quantum mechanics. But there's nothing in his public work to indicate that. He's successful because he speaks from the same mindset as a very large section of the gaming fanbase. That can indicate intelligence, but it doesn't guarantee it - think Paris Hilton cultivating her 'so stupid it's entertaining' persona on 'the Simple Life' (and her reacting to her ex leaking their sex tape by demanding her 50% cut and leveraging it into a tv career) v Kim Kardashian's seeming obliviousness to her own idiocy despite having an even more successful reality show (and her comparatively lame imitation of Hilton's sex tape strategy). Hines, Howard and possibly Gaider are Hiltons - Angry Joe is a Kardashian.
