And the other being that Eternal actually expects you to use all your tools at your disposal and won't let you sit on your favourite gun for the whole game.
Does someone have to beat the game on double plus nightmare using only the assault rifle before you understand the meaning of "ammo printer goes BRRRRRRR"?

Update: just played level 5 and turned on the fps counter and I was pretty much locked at 130-140 the whole time. Quite impressive for a basic 2070, I could barely get Control to run above 70fps period. Wonder what "ultra nightmare" looks like and how much fps I'd lose.

I just saw some comparison shots, and there was surprisingly little difference between the 6 graphics presets. Even the difference between Low and Ultra Nightmare isn't that extreme.

I started on high, thinking I needed that for high framerate, and one thing I definitely noticed going up to nightmare was the improved TAA. It still sucks ass, but at high there was much more blur in motion and smearyness. On nightmare that is toned down a lot. Dishonored 2 had a similar paradigm.

Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. I helped put crap in Monomyth
Game gets way better the further you get. More guns, much more ammo, plus the runes and such offer you ways to make glory killing really fast and simple. Those first couple levels really don't give a good impression of how it actually functions later on. Not saying it's great... I definitely still prefer 2016 at the moment, and ammo is still lower than it should be... but it's much better.

The first few levels are almost like tutorials, not literally but in how they gradually add tools to your kit, by the time you reach where you are the game does get way better. I am enjoying it MUCH more than 2016, which I felt got extremely boring 2/3 in and was very repetitive. Eternal throws you in increasingly crazier situations. I know I am in the minority of enjoying Eternal, but when you have two mancubi, an arachnotron, a couple of revenants and a tyrant on your ass while you also have to deal with imps, snake ladies and soldiers shit gets hectic and I like how you have to think more about your placement and approach than in 2016. add a marauder to the mix and the game is light years ahead of 2016 in terms of combat.

I've never really understood the complaints about low ammo outside of the first level when you have a couple guns. I think once I got the plasma rifle I didn't really have to worry about getting ammo unless I was out of a particular one that I needed at that moment...

Someone earlier said it was like DMC of FPS games and I was going to make a similar comparison to Platinum games, especially how the first run through one of their games is often just OK and the real fun begins when you've unlocked and mastered all the tools and systems available. I don't mind the platforming but it does seem out of place at times, they could have surely had platforming but made it more organic to the environment instead of floating platforms and fireball bars lol

playing on ultra violence if that matters.. i always played doom on UV for first time :)
check out the master level(s) if you haven't.. shit is crazy

I would have tolerated the trifecta more had GK and chainsaw weren't performed with contextual animation. Why not let player punch or kick staggered demons? (press E to punch, hold E for glory kill for example, so people have the choice). Same with chainsaw, press E to do a quick cut like the crucible sword. It's just tiring to see those repetitive animation again and again.

Also, anyone find the chainsaw notches design kinda conflicting? Since you can only refill the next two notches by pickup, realistically you will rarely be able to chainsaw a big guy because since you run out of ammo too quickly and have to use the second notch on a walker anyway. IMO a better solution would be allowing all three notches to refill but give a small cooldown after each use so player can't abuse invincibility repeatedly.

Or just let them waste all 3 notches. I don't see any problem in that.

There's a significant minority in the public as seen in Reddit and Twitter, which for some godforsaken reason prefers Doom 2016 over Eternal.
One major reason being that the arcadey presentation of Eternal takes them out muh powerhouse fantasy and muh immersion that they played nuDoom for.
And the other being that Eternal actually expects you to use all your tools at your disposal and won't let you sit on your favourite gun for the whole game. People apparently primarily liked 16 for its "shut your brain off and just have fun" approach, and loathe the fact that you have to use your brain in Eternal and that you actually can't just faceroll your way through the Maurader (as easy and boring as he is once you understand how he works).

Am I the only person in this thread who isn't a senior with degrading motor skills?

Reddit and Steam Forums are such awful places for feedback on any game that you are better off not going there at all. I remember when I defended 2016 before it came out and got downvoted to hell. Now when I offer cricicism to the new game I also get downvoted. They're just hivemind cesspools of low-iq memes. Don't be surprised they want a game that turns their brain off because they have none.

There is no question that Eternal is the better game but for me exploration and interconnected levels is such an important part of the franchise so I might end up prefering that one instead in spite of it having worse gameplay.

Neither will replace classic Doom for me though. They are just really good games that I will play a few times a year.

There's a cheat code that if had been always active would have made the game 10x better (for me at least...): Silver Bullet Mode - Staggered demons die from a single hit from projectiles, explosions, Flame Belch, or dashing.

That being said I don't really get much of the complaining. Especially that the game forces you to play a certain way. One has to have some serious ego to think nothing else works after he "figured" the game.

There's an entire level dedicated to lore-dumping and suddenly epic boss fight happens at the end of it. Lol, wtf.

If there's one thing i know is that after a few years nobody will give a shit about Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, meanwhile people still play doom 1/2 since 1993, why ? MODS ! Doom have a shit load of mods and custom wads(campaigns)with custom soundtrack, textures and creative level design(much better than the official ID wads imo).

Some screenshots of me playing Doom:

also, there is hundreds of gameplay mods, you can find most of them here:

https://forum.zdoom.org/viewforum.php?f=43

The game is almost infinite at this point and never gets old,so yeah Doom 1/2 is truly "eternal"(no pun intended).

i currently playing through Scythe 2,i planning to beat at least one wad every week or two.

You can find the "best" wads here:

Anyone who dislikes this game should go back to playing CoD campaign on easy mode.

Doom Eternal is the Dark Souls of FPS.

Remember when Dark Souls dynamically lowered enemy aggression so you could find something to heal with?

Looks like some Devil May Cry shit. I wish I was still good at video games. Damit all.
It's basically DMC in FPS mode

Honestly that's partially true. A potential high skill ceiling if you want to play well but with tons of room to play like a complete retard and still beat the game
Which is a problem with DMC and is an even bigger problem in this since you're allowed to keep making mistakes as long as there's a zombie around for you to chainsaw.
Zombies also tend to spawn infinitely so there really is nothing stopping you from killing marauders with the assault rifle if you really want to.

People actually like a good game and it's causing retards to be mad.

You can play like a retard for the vast majority of codex's favorite games and beat them.

Had to restart the BFG mission because a trigger got broken that was supposed to open the hatch after clearing area of monsters and loading checkpoint wouldn't fix it. Of course before that I spent about 15 mins jumping around like a moron wondering what platforming bit I missed. Good times.

On Human and Devil Hunter difficulties sure. But those are the training wheels difficulties, their intention is for people to enjoy the 1st run and get every weapon /ability for Son of Sparda + Dante Must Die which are the real challenges.

DMC3 for PS2, the black label one, was actually pretty tough on normal difficulty. The Special Edition they released and made standard after though was way easier.

It's almost unbelievable how off he shoots sotimes. The 40 mins fight is surreal... seems not even shoving the tutorials in your face is enough. So maybe, just stop trying so hard to design around retard.

Only skimmed through the video but it seems his problem is that he wants to spar with monsters and hasn't figure out you can't do that here.

There's no dodging in this game, you simply don't move fast enough for that.
