Wasn't there some Gaider slide roughly along the lines of "it doesn't matter how much agency there is in the game, it matters how much agency a player thinks there is the game". I remember looking at that slide and thinking "I couldn't me more sickened if it had a picture of Gaider's anus gaped"
The more footage of this game I see, the more it looks like the writers at Bioware are taking most of their cues from the sort of wankery you find in so-called, "storygame" tabletop RPGs. But who am I kidding? You can see the nascent seeds of this kind of stultifyingly, awful writing and exposition in Baldur's Gate; here it just looks like it's reached its zenith.
So, some cocksucker I know who worships Bioware actually bought me a nights worth of alcohol in exchange for me playing through DA2 and choosing a non-Sebastian romance (He said that they were the best part of the game...). Originally I stopped at Act II, re-evaluated my life and joined the Codex.
So, the game was pretty lulzy. It's a great display of how many mistakes a developer can make, I doubt at any point did anyone making it had fun or looked at it and said, "This is acceptable." In some ways though, this made the game somewhat interesting. What ill-advised plot twist will Bioware come up with next? How two-dimensional will this character act? Which party member is the one you don't want to strangle?
1. They outdo themselves everytime.
2. One dimensional.
3. Avelline.
And I picked Fenris because I knew Anders becomes a fucktard, Isabela would give a -10 CON penalty a week after fucking her and green discharge, and Merrill is the WORST CHARACTER EVER MADE AND I HATE BIOWARE FOR NOT HAVING A KILL MERRILL OPTION IN MY PATH, FUCK!
So yes, an emo JRPG protagonist is the most mature of the romances. Jesus.
So, this brings me to Inquisition. Does it look like it's gonna be as lulzy as DAII? Does this look like it's going to be a complete fucking disaster?
Looks like 110% ackshun-oriented to me. I really wonder how their audience gets so vocal about story and characters, when the game itself clearly has no fucks to give about either and it boils down to an arcadefest of hawksome button mashing, backflipping dorfs, epilepsy-inducing rainbowy GFX, and cheaply modelled, poorly animated dry humping scenes.

Also, in my one and only DA2 playthrough I romanced Fenris as well, because similar reasons. Anders is a batshit insane bisexual whiny terrorist, Isabella is a whore without heart of gold, Merril is a KILL IT WITH FIRE. In comparison, Fenris is just Final Fantasy reject, so it automatically makes him a better choice. On a plus side he hates mages, and boy, did DA2 made me hate them, so at least I didn't want to actively murder him.
Is this somehow more entertaining than watching DU do the D: OS raffle for an hour or so? Cause let me tell you, if I had to choose, I'd go with watching DU right now.
I still can't get over how ugly all of those Dragon Age games look, in the sense i don't understand how a company this big can fail at something like that. Bad writing and bad gameplay or design i get, but good visuals ought to be a given considering the amount of money involved.

Five hours is barely enough time to wet your blade, whet your appetite or get a real sense of mastery on the multitude of systems Dragon Age: Inquisition is packing, but it was at least enough time to determine that, despite some unoriginal side quests, its wide open spaces are filled with plenty to see and do. Striking out in pretty much any direction will yield a quest or an interesting ruin to stumble upon, and though the combat seems a touch too functional during early stages, it's not too much to hope that its repetition will be lessened by the introduction of new characters and combat skills - not to mention more worthy adversaries - as the game progresses.
My impression is that it will have much better production value and will be more polished and thought out. But on the other hand there seems to be great potentional for lulz in the story and the characters seems to possibly be some of the worst we seen in a bioware game. at least at first glance.

Dear lord. This is an adult who is somehow holding down full time employment. If I had someone in my organization who thought and spoke like this, I would fire her ASAP, not entrust her with significant creative control over my product.
Translation for the literate: "writers' pit". And that's always how I imagined the creative writing process in BioWare: a ominous pit in the center of the office, surrounded by a heavy duty guard rail, where the management occasionally lowers down fresh crayons and paper.
