One of the nicer things about the game is that darkness is actually dark (someone should show Bethesda that torches should have something that requires them). Sometimes I think Japan paid more attention to what PC games were going for than companies who used to make PC games.

Night time is fucking scary too, at least until you become a walking god slayer. DD does not scale to your level. (Well, technically it does, but the scaling is pretty much meaningless, you wouldn't know it's there from simply playing.)

What is the save system in Dragons Dogma?
Do you have those lovely respawns of enemies like in Dark Souls when you die ?
it has really spaced out autosaves, and you can save manually when you rest at an inn.

and no, the game is not like dark souls at all. the only thing they have in common is they are both fantasy worlds and made by japanese people.

It's interesting that the ports of old games must be worth doing for Steambux

Hell they even just did that expansion-version port of DMC4, which came out in... fucking 2008

I think ports are a lot less expensive these days than people think. Especially with a multi platform release, the game is already going to be fairly generalized, so there isn't a lot of specialized tweaks for running on a particular console to unravel. If they skimp on stuff like the button listings on in game tutorials (and why not, you're probably playing on a controller anyways) they can save themselves even more trouble.

Add to that the fact that a digital sale cuts out all the physical production and transport costs, as well as the cost of retail shelf space, and you've got a lot more room to make money on each sale. And steam basically does your marketing for you if you're a AAA game, by throwing it up on the front page for a while. Honestly I'm surprised they don't just port everything these days that isn't a Sony or Nintendo exclusive.

You forgot to mention that there is only one save (and thus only one playable character) per PSN/Xbox account. I wonder if they'll do away with that nonsense for the pc version.

I wouldn't mind playing this again on PC, especially if there is new content, but I'm not looking forward to either playing over half the game as a class I don't want to play as, or playing as my favoured class but constantly having to be mindful of total Experience, making sure to catch myself just before I'm about to level up and warping back to town to change class for the right bonus, all in order to get decent stats for my char...

Inb4 DMC3-tier port :M

Well it's running on the MT Framework engine, which has had a history of pretty good ports IMO. The DMC4 port is still godlike for being able to run on a toaster. At 120 fps.

I wouldn't be surprised if most ports by companies capable of porting (i.e. disqualifying jap companies that have never touched a PC) were delayed primarily due to exclusivity agreements and release schedule optimizations.

I suggest playing the first escort mission at night for an awesome time. Shit comes out of the darkness at you and all you hear is noises, since the mission ir relatively early you recognize some but not others. NPC will still arrow enemies even if they can't see them but, well, I've never been happier to see a dawn in a game.

I am praying that this PC port is up to scratch. Fell in love with Dragon's Dogma. It's one of those games that has a magic that shines through its many flaws, that being that it is just damn fun.

Looking forward to possible community improvements if the game ends up being easy to mess with. It's almost a guarantee they'll keep the console-friendly menu system, seeing as how this game works much better on a controller, but I'd like the chance to change the UI.
