So after a long time of anticipation, I installed it and played for a few hours...erm, I am sorry but I feel a bit disappointed.

1. How do I dodge/roll? It feels unreal that I cannot do even the most basic sidestep as a warrior in a game which is developed by Capcom.

2. Is it just me, or is the combat a bit too lite? Especially when compared to Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, DMC, etc. I have heard a long time before that Dragon's Dogma combat is nowhere near to Dark Souls, but I didn't expect it to be so different.

3. The moment when I realized that I can spam healing items in the menu which also pauses the game really kills my mood...

4. The inventory is horrible.

5. The game volume is horribly bugged. Even at max volume, everything is so quiet. I know that switching on Volume Equalizer (or something like that) can help but it will also mess up things in other games (i.e. make normal loud sounds not as loud as they should).

6. The graphics, while I expected to be dated abit, look like Mount and Blade yet the performance is worse than that. For some reason switching HDR to high destroys my FPS. I think HDR in this game also covers ambient occlusion? Also, the texture in game is horrible.

7. Character models. The faces look super weird on different angles. Combined with the low res texture it's destroying my fantasy of playing as sexy warrior princesses raping goblins.

8. 5 min into the game and I fully understand why the game was so infamous about the Pawns chattering. Even worse, because the volume is bugged, I need to turn on Pawn subtitles in order to actually hear what they say...which in turn makes the game spammed with Pawn dialogues in huge ass, for-TV dialogue boxes. Yet I don't want to mute them because sometimes they say really interesting things...

I think I have been spoiled by the various games mentioned above along with Witcher 3, which makes me feel that the game is less enjoyable than I wished for. :(

Ninja flips are not the god given right of every 80 year old wizard and 400 pound barbarian in the world. Be the right class and learn the damn skill.

Otherwise, step away from the sword that is hitting you. It works.

Goblins are not the most complicated enemies in the game. There are other things later.

The inventory is horrible.
No argument here.

The game volume is horribly bugged. Even at max volume, everything is so quiet.
This was a wtf moment for me as well. I assume they're aware of this and will patch it. For now just cranking my headphones to max does the job.

The graphics
Dude ...

Pawns chattering
Get pawns with voices that don't annoy you. Also helps when their voices aren't all the same. Best advice I can give.

Can't argue with that either I guess.

I know for a fact that my pawn has been used and that I used that person's pawn. Neither of us got anything. It's definitely broken right now.

Heresiarch
For healing items note that they, for the most part, are either heavy or perishable. An egg weighs .18 and restores 500 health and stamina and decays in a few days while a Matured Greenwarish heals 400 health (no stamina) and weighs more, but will never perish. The biggest exceptions for high recovery to weight=perishable are all end-game stuff, but that's rare and can't be broken up into smaller units of recovery (so you'll likely "waste" some recovery).

It's a system I'd like to see more games use (the ability to chow down 20 nuts in zero time doesn't need to go with it though).

1 try a strider they get a couple of dodge switch and bait manouvers
2 combat is supposed to be arcadey it is based on the DMC engine
3 so dont spam them use then after combat
4 waiting for a mod to fix that
5 I also have lower than usual volume too but you cab tweak it
6 texture overhauls are imminent but performance is fine... Maybe a problem with your rig?
7 they do look weird sometimes but nothing too imershun breaking
8 turn off their chatter or tell your pawn to speak less

Comparing this to twitcher and expecting a "win all" roll button... Perhaps you picked the wrong game son, maybe Dragon Age Inquisition might be more your style?

Oh please, I am saying the need for a roll button because rolling is universal in Dark Souls and Monster Hunter and DMC. Even if I am wielding heavy weapons such as a lance or gunlance in MH, I can still side/backstep, with invincible frames and all. I can even roll in full Havel armor in DS. In Dragon's Dogma it seems the only way to manuever as a warrior is...turn back and run?

The main reason why I mention Witcher 3 is because W3 highlights a lot of flaws of Dragon's Dogma (I know it's not exactly fair as they are years apart) which I am too sleepy to explain here, but combat is not the one I factor in for comparison. I always compare Japanese action combat with only Japanese ones. Vast majority of Western ARPG and/or ACT's combat control just pales in comparison to Japanese ones.

Heheh no problem buddy I was just trolling, I would recommend using the special attacks like the dash to create space or suing the shiwld techniques

Let's test this whole Pawn connectivity then, right now.

Zombra, I sent Zombira something after she was too underleveled (I will use her consistently if you build her right tho). Did you get it?

It looks nothing like Mount and Blade. The models are much more detailed than that, as well as the animation for non-DLC clothing (for some reason they didn't add the flap for those). I get a consistent 60 FPS on my 3 year old rig, so that might be a problem on your end.

Can't argue about textures though. Console game, can't do much more than that.

EDIT: As for dodging, Fighters/Magic Knights/Assassins block with shields, and Warriors just move out of the way or simply take the damage and keep swinging. I believe Striders have a dodge roll for Strider stuff, as well as Rangers & Magic Archers? I don't know what Mages do though.

[Idiotic shit like cartwheels in full plate mail happen in other games, therefore it has somehow changed from dumb to smart! and must now be in every game.]
Ooooooookay.

In Dragon's Dogma it seems the only way to manuever as a warrior is...turn back and run?
From reading the class descriptions, Warriors aren't supposed to dodge or even block. They are damage dealers who take a lot of hits. Their defense is lots of hit points, that's it. This is intentional design, if you want to be a backflipping ninja, stop playing as a Warrior.

Thanks, I'm at the office today so I can't verify until I get home in a couple hours. :(

Excited that Zombira may make it onto your favorites list :) Please let me know if there are particular abilities you look for in a support Mage. She's got heal, cure poison, enchant weapons, I figure that's a good start.

Most of the classes have an (seemingly?) invincible backstep attack you can use as an evasion (and if your Dogma-poise-analog isn't broken, I think you can cancel into it in hitstop). Fighters specifically get a backstep thing that they can cancel before the attack part by holding up their shield, meaning they get an invincible backstep that doesn't cost stamina.

1. As a fighter you have a shield, so block things. As a Warrior with a two hander, they have an evasive move you can unlock.
2. Combat is too lite? What? You have stamina management, timing blocks, timing attacks, grappling to let pawns finish off enemies and vice versa, status affects, climbing on large monsters to hit weakpoints, picking the right skills for a situation, and co-ordinating your attacks with a party. Dragon's Dogma is nowhere near DS because IMO it's more complex.
3. The menu pausing is easily exploited, yes. If it makes it less fun to use it in combat then don't.
4. Yep.
5. Turn up the volume? Use headphones? I haven't really had an issue here.
6. Graphics aren't the greatest but who cares
7. No arguments here but I find the derpy faces endearing
8. Sit your main pawn down in a knowledge chair and tell them to shut up. Then they will only say interesting things and barely say the boring stuff (in theory). No fixing the other two though.

I logged in just now and received no notifications.

This morning when I logged in, there was a flash on the screen like my gold was going up or something. Happened too fast for me to process.

So I think sometimes things are happening and other times things are not happening.

So Black Cat weapons are a joke (the 300 K) ones?

Also, how do I load a manual save? A quest I did cancelled out a prior one. ffs
They were originally DLC weapons that were mostly for appearance (the original DD had a lot of shitty DLC). When Dark Arisen came out, all the DLC items were put into the Black Cat shop.

Damn, I was hoping the port was perfect. At the very least, there's renewed interest. Maybe another expansion.

Btw: Do try my Amazon pawn. 2H at level 12. :positive:

The game allows you to load the last checkpoint save, but you'll lose all progress since that save. It only keeps track of two saves, a checkpoint save and a regular one, and the regular save updates frequently (the checkpoint save less often).

Outside of the game, you can create a backup of your .sav file (in the Users Steam folder), and then copy it over the existing one if you want to revert back.

are there any more quests I need to be wary of having cancelled?
A lot of quests will be cancelled if not completed by a certain point. If you want to use spoilers to make sure you don't use miss anything, start with http://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Stage_1 and work from there, but the game isn't intended to be played for completionism. Not in a single playthrough, anyway; there's a New Game Plus mode.

Mages & Sorcerers jump out of harm's way. As best they can.

Personally, I think the worst thing you could do for a first playthrough for any RPG is to try and complete everything. Imo, completing everything is for people who like the game, and are comfortable retreading it. Like walking around their house. For first-timers, it's more akin to trying to find your contacts in some strangers backyard. That's not as clever as I wanted to it to be.

So, level 13-ish and since this is like my 5th playthrough I'm hanging onto some DLC armor for kicks. Really like the full suit my Arisen is sporting, I'm still mulling over how long I'm gonna stay a Fighter. All I know is, I'm gonna try and max it out my vocation before switching.

I'm amazed by how many retards think this is the only way to design combat

It's also obvious when people haven't even gotten past the tutorial(I consider everything before Gran Soren tutorial land because that's what it basically is) before they start whining and it's happening from a surprising amount of people.

I have not not received a single Rift Crystal yet from the Rift. No one has used my pawn...

Very frustrating - I need those Rift Crystals.

Are you a 100% you are online. I was having the same issue and it was down to the game deciding i had said to be offline.
