This article cites an interview with Miyazaki (that is to be published 30th December in EDGE Magazine).

In the same interview with EDGE, Miyazaki also reportedly stated that combat while mounted on the spectral steed would not be a necessary solution to any encounter, and that it only offers "another viable strategy among many."

BotW mounted combate is pleasent - but that's because the game does alot of heavy lifting to make sure everything runs smoothly

IMO AC:Brotherhood has the best mounted combat of any action game

From should have jumped on the horse-wagon ten or fifteen years ago when everybody else was doing it. At least then it would have been novel.

You mean when they released their genre defining masterpiece? Right, I always thought that the one thing Dark Souls was missing was a fucking horse.

Dark Souls? What's that? I'm just interested in this horse game which in no way cashes in on a bunch of tropes to be accessible to the mass market.

I haven't played too many of them, but every game I've played that had mounted combat was a bit janky and weird. Are there any that had realistic and good mounted combat? I thought it was weird even in the first Mount and Blade (but I haven't played any of the sequels).

If I were pressed to list the best games with mounted combat, I would say LoZ: Breath of the Wild and Red Dead Redemption I+II (which is cheating because it's not melee). Mount and Blade's mounted combat never really got better, it's just necessary if combat's on an open field.
I played only like 2 percent of Breath of the Wild on horseback. Found the horses too limiting for all the things there are to check out and climb.

I'd say RDR2 horses are well animated but that's about it. Most of them look either bizarrely small or oddly shaped/skinned. They suck at navigating the game's terrain/avoiding meaningless obstacles on their own leading to frequent crashes unlike BOTW, they also lack the precision & responsiveness to let the player consistently avoid them manually - regardless of horse type/"bonding" . The control scheme where you have to repeatedly tap a "go forward" button to keep them moving at a chosen pace is just annoying in a wide open world with long distances and open plains - moreso than games where you just need to keep a button/trigger pressed or stick tilted forward (most games with mounts/vehicles) let alone games like BOTW/SOTC and their horse autowalk controls (or TW3 modded with immersivecam's Alternate Horse Controls and Roach never stops).

It's made to look pretty enough for the 40 or so hours it takes to finish/review the game, but becomes an annoyance if you play it longer than that, particularly if you go online and really need them to perform.

Whoever said RDR2 horse combat is good is hallucinating. Not even dismounted combat in that game is good.

Let's face it, there are no games with good mounted combat because controlling a horse with m+kb or controller is an absolute pain. If they ever added a controller for your legs/feet (maybe a VR game will do it), then mounted combat would be great.

I picked BotW and RDR because they are the least offensive... and they are still very offensive.

Plus, RDR1 horses were decent. Not sure why they decided to add a shit ton more animations and "grittiness" to the sequel.

Well, between some of the VR stuff going on and porn feedback suits, it's only a matter of time. I prefer just being able to sit around with M+KB or a controller rather than needing to be ready for full cardio any time I feel like gaming tbh.

What's the last time combat was good in a Rockstar game?

Max Payne 3. And even then they did their best to interrupt you from that combat with endless tedious cutscenes. Oops we made gameplay too fun, can't let you enjoy it too much now!
Because of how linear the game was, they also never gave you enough opportunities to experiment with all the features. You only get to freely use a sniper rifle towards the end of the dilapidated building, for example. I didn't even know how good its hip accuracy was until I tried out the multiplayer.

The other sniping part is totally scripted and you can't move.

I also really would have appreciated some of the enemies being able to shoot dive too.

*omegacuck voice, annoying upspeak and on top of that a fucking Kraut accent*

"THEY'RE INNOCENT ANIMALS, I DON'T WANT TO KILL THEM"

"STUPID TORCHES THAT TAKE UP A WEAPON SLOT"

"YOU'RE FORCED TO PLAY WITH A KATANA IN SEKIRO OH NOO"

what a joke

Just because it's a Souls game by From ensures it will be better than 99% of the shit out there. Fucking Dark Souls 2 was better than most modern nu-gaymes.

The last thing i need is to hear a western indie cuck developer lecture From Software on game development.
