Also, curious fact: started playing the game again today and it seems like the few stutters I've had yesterday are completely gone. I'm pretty sure FS just added them on purpose to bring the full souls experience.

the shaders are compiled first time you enter an area but you will still get stuttering from assets loading

What happens when you die in this?

in most cases you respawn somewhere close to the boss door

but if you have runes and you enter a fight you cannot win then those runes are lost

What happens when you die in this?
if you ask about penalties such as getting turned into beef jerky, then there are none. You just get teleported to the last not-bonfire.

But do the world respawn like other souls games?

even most resources

Someone want to (honestly) tell me when they've beaten Margit? Because I'm having a really hard time understanding where these "too EZ" claims are coming from. That's from someone who has played Demons Souls through Sekiro to completion in the Soulsborne catalogue, minus Bloodborne.

I just beat him at lvl 20. He is a trap boss -> it's harder with summons ;)

Edit: Whoever complains about difficulty is retarded. The game is not easy. I beat the boss with a mace and it was the right level of difficulty. Epic fight.

He is weak to bleed. It took me 30 min to solo him but it was awesome.
It's a LOT easier wih magic, astrologer build + summons, they keep them busy while you shoot with pebble and barely have to roll a few times.

- Crafting seems to be as bad an idea as I thought it would be.

I'm really curious about this part. I never use items on souls games because of an uncontrolllable fear of needing something and not having it available. I thought that with crafting this would change but I didn't even mess with the crafting menu. I hope it becomes useful later because I've been gathering a lot of crafting materials.

crafting is pointless but it's ok because it's not in your way. use it to craft potions and shit or simply ignore it.

Played like 6 hours today, Jellyfish spits in the face of some bosses, fucker is tanky af and poisons. Spirits are not as bad as I thought, they are not an auto win button, but you can use them to kill bosses way earlier than you are supposed to.

margit send his regards. to your spirits :D

Played for like two hours, haven't read thread.
I did experience technical issues (first a bunch of black bars, which fixed after updating drivers), and then a crash (perhaps from high graphics settings?).
Then I lowered my settings (I have a GTX 970, so below minimum requirement), and no crashes so far. The game does drop a few frames occasionally but it's perfectly playable, even when zooming around the overworld on horseback.

As for the game itself, it really feels like fromsoft is phoning it in a bit. Arise ashentarnished one, the lordsoulelden ring has been fractured and you are fated to put it back together. Here, have a waifu to help you level up. Except this time the intro cinematic is just a few pieces of static artwork with lots of bloom.

But, even a mediocre phoning it in fromsoft is still a company that makes a pretty decent game.

the overall gameworld design is brilliant. i would say on par with dark souls 1.

i am still wondering where is all the armour?
at around 15 hours in DS3 I would have an entire wardrobe
I only have an incomplete armour set from the first area

that being said I have a bunch of magic equipment, which is all useless, and I can't find all the colossal weapons, I do have one but I need to level up a lot to use it
I have yet to find any armour sets out in the wild. So far I've only seen pieces or sets sold by random merchants. On very rare occasions the generic overworld solder enemies also drop a piece

Alright people, I got the game working with the 60 FPS limit unlocked, and GSYNC is active and working fine. I had to resort to Borderless Windowed mode to get GSYNC working though.

I used the following program to do this:

https://github.com/uberhalit/EldenRingFpsUnlockAndMore
WARNING: if you use this mod while you are connected to Steam's online servers, bad things could happen. This is what I did, no idea if all these steps are necessary but I'd rather not get banned:
  1. Start Steam in offline mode
  2. Rename Start_Protected_Game.exe to Start_Protected_Game.old
  3. Make a copy of Eldenring.exe
  4. Rename the copy of Eldenring.exe to Start_Protected_Game.exe
  5. Start Elden Ring FPS Unlock And More
  6. Follow the instructions on the GitHub page
I am able to get 90-150 FPS, its more like 85-90 when walking around Limgrave (where the Tree Sentinel is). I am getting bad frame drops when the game is loading assets, I hope they are able to fix that.

Overall a massive improvement but the game still clearly has issues.

I'll just leave my Steam review here for you, along with a small video clip.

Absolute technical mess. Resolution going up or down does nothing. Changing graphics settings barely affects the framerate and there's a 3-5 fps difference between the Low and High presets.

Shadows cast by objects are a blurry, poorly implemented mess. Performance in general is laughable. None of the review outlets tell you anything about those glaring issues, of course. "10/10, game of the century!"

Pirated versions without the day-one patch run MUCH better. I mean 10 fps difference better and much more stable framerate overall. The issue with the legit copy of the game is likely due to a horrible implementation of EasyAnticheat and the day-one patch making things a lot worse.

Shame, FromSoft. Shame. This is the last From game I ever spend money on.

Look closely at the shadow near the bottom ring of the pillar and under the character's cape, at his feet. What is even going on here? How are those "shadows"? It's an amorphous shimmery black blur.

An oasis of love and friendship.
Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. I helped put crap in Monomyth
this was me. I spoke to my cousin last night
"i think my run is over"
"I got stuck there too, took me a while to remember that route I put a mental bookmark on and found the warp point"

So far, Elden Ring has a mean habit of locking you into boss fights, maybe I just haven't found the homeward bone equivalent yet, but I've had to forfeit my xp twice now >< lol mean mistress

don't you already start w/ it equipped or get it in the very first room of the game or something?

The worst thing is having to press Y + LB + RB to two-hand a weapon. What kind of moron came up with that?! They also changed activate to Y (which no game ever uses), but that's understandable since A is jump.

pretty sure you don't need to press both lb and rb, just whichever hand it is slotted to... I've been just doing y+rb and it's a lot easier

Is the game supposed to look like this?

09DUKQv.jpg

That's some really bizarre postprocessing that's making me sick looking at it. And we thought the DXHR piss filter was bad.

Game has a day and night cycle with various intermediary steps, the lighting is more fortunate in some times of the day than others.

FFS that npc is overleveled in order to help scrubs.

:what:

I know you're probably exaggerating, but the guy was useless for anything more than a distraction. If you let them duel, he takes down like 1/10 of Margits health. You don't get a proper NPC summon sign until
Twin axe barbarian lady for spider dude

OK, fuck it, I want my magic swordsdude and want it now so I bought some magic. :bunkertime: I just need to find a catalyst now. My plan may have not been thought out too well..

You can find a faith-based catalyst in
the Roundtable hold
I still haven't found an intelligence or arcane catalyst yet. Also, what is arcane? Dunno what that's supposed to be.

I'm very into cock and ball torture

I mogged him with jellyfish. Level 20 aswell, fairly ez. Jellyfish has more than 1000 hp, and can tank 4 full combos from Margit. Then I just kept spamming heavies into his back while he batters the jellyfish for poise break. Also Margit is weak against poison, Jellyfish prolly did 1000 damage against him. This game is a lot more rpg than Fromsoft has been in a long while, at least since DS2. Different builds lead to vastly different experiences when fighting bosses.

So I would say Margit is one of the hardest bosses in any of the From games. I think this is to encourage the player to go out and get as strong as possible before facing him, but at the same time, it's like a bold-faced challenge to all the fans who've played the games up until this point. I felt conflicted about it, turned to go and get stronger several times, but ultimately came back for the pain. It's a great fight, the game is not too easy - at least up until this point - and I ultimately wish I would have just done what my RPGamer instincts had told me and gone out and gotten stronger. I'm glad I persevered, but it was a stupid perseverance that I won't repeat for the rest of the game.

I am happy that Elden Ring is the way it is. And I can see why people have said it's taken the genre in different and better directions. I can't wait to play more of this tomorrow, and for many days after, and for many years after.
Based on what I've heard the sentinel boss at the very start of the game (it's almost the first thing you see after leaving the tutorial area and entering the open world) is definitely also deliberately placed there to hammer the point home.
Seems like you're definitely expected to go out and explore.

Except when you are retarded like me. It took me 2 hours and 100+ tries (!?) but it can be done at low level.

he drops a halberd with required str 30

Pulled my hair out against that guy on level 10, was approaching 50 tries aswell. Then I just got one level more in and fought him on a horse. He is ez mode on a horse, you can reasonably defeat him without taking a hit. The main problem is his hitboxes are collosal, he pounds the ground and you get onetapped while being half the church away. That is no problem on a horse.
He is there to teach you that the horse is OP.

In retrospect, I don't know why I took like 15 fucking tries for the guy. Granted, I was only like lvl 15 and took 30 hits to kill him but the pattern is easy as fuck. Though I kept dying to being impatient and not simply countering after his own attacks.

That looks worse than DS3
Screenshots look kinda ugly, but it's much better in motion. This is the first time in the series they use dynamic lighting with day/night cycle and it shows, shadows look nice and areas with a lot of trees look appropriately dark.

One jarring thing is that vegetation it too static. We've been spoiled by other open world games so it feels strange when you pass through bushes, but they don't move. It looks cheap.

EDIT: and chromatic aberration is still forced, Japanese devs love that shit

unplayable...

Yes, it is. Bear in mind that the issue is lessened by youtube compression blurring the dark shadow blob and making it look more like an actual shadow.

Ingame it looks like it's got some terrible dithering of dark mesh overlaid ontop of the surface.

it's a good game of simon says so far
unfortunately the dark souls playerbase is a bunch of retarded redditors who spam bullshit messages everywhere in the game, but there's no option to disable messages
so I'm forced to play in offline mode, which sucks because I want to be invaded

4/10 review might change if they add an option to disable messages
also I'm on pc and I luckily haven't really experienced much bugs, a little bit of lag now and then but it hasn't gotten me killed
