it's a good game of simon says so far
unfortunately the dark souls playerbase is a bunch of retarded redditors who spam bullshit messages everywhere in the game, but there's no option to disable messages
so I'm forced to play in offline mode, which sucks because I want to be invaded

4/10 review might change if they add an option to disable messages
also I'm on pc and I luckily haven't really experienced much bugs, a little bit of lag now and then but it hasn't gotten me killed

Sadly true. Even before i made it to the scripted "kick your ass" starting area boss, I saw at least a dozen "secret wall ahead" and "try jumping" messages. The next areas didn't get any better.

Do the spirit ash summons (jellyfish, wolves, etc) scale with anything?

But yeah, jellyfish is pretty OP against single targets. That poison tick is noticeable.

Kiting Godric around the jellyfish kind of trivialized the fight.

Is the game supposed to look like this?

09DUKQv.jpg

That's some really bizarre postprocessing that's making me sick looking at it. And we thought the DXHR piss filter was bad.
Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed when I fired the game up, and that's on a PS4 where theoretically this shit is reduced to save frames. From has a problem with these filters for a long time now. DS3 was puke inducing in some areas, and they didn't learn the lesson it seems.

The game has been great otherwise. On Stormvale castle now.

I played it for 2 hours last night, it runs fine so far on high settings on my ancient laptop (1050 ti). There is some stuttering and fps drops down to <60 fps in the open world area, but not bad. Performance is roughly the same as DS3, maybe slightly worse, but much, much better than Nioh.

it's totally immersion ruining in caves where a dark space is lit up with bullshit

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
I'm playing in offline mode anyway so I can use the fps unlocker and other mods. I've never liked the player messages in the souls series.

The juvenile "fatty ahead" and "great chest ahead" get old after five seconds.

Does the fps unlocker mess with physics in any way? Like the infamous DSFix ladder sliding bug?

I've only been playing with it a couple of hours, but it appears not to. I've been getting a smooth 120-130 fps in indoor areas and 90-100 in outdoor.

No weird speed up or any other issues spotted thus far.

It seems like this is the Dark Souls 3 engine under the hood, and the 144 fps mod for that apparently had very few issues. I'm assuming the author has used similar methodology.

If it hasn't already been linked btw:

FFS that npc is overleveled in order to help scrubs.

:what:

I know you're probably exaggerating, but the guy was useless for anything more than a distraction. If you let them duel, he takes down like 1/10 of Margits health. You don't get a proper NPC summon sign until
Twin axe barbarian lady for spider dude

OK, fuck it, I want my magic swordsdude and want it now so I bought some magic. :bunkertime: I just need to find a catalyst now. My plan may have not been thought out too well..

You can find a faith-based catalyst in
the Roundtable hold
I still haven't found an intelligence or arcane catalyst yet. Also, what is arcane? Dunno what that's supposed to be.

Luck?

I'm playing this on a PS5, mostly because my rig is old and, due to chip and supply shortages, I have not been able to get the video card and CPU that I need for the upgrade. I'm not paying $3,000 dollars for a fucking video card, so I will continue to run an underpowered potato until that shit gets straightened the fuck out.

So, PS5 it is. And I can't complain, it is a pretty nice piece of hardware. The Souls games are one of the few genres where I actively feel like they're better on a console anyway -- whereas practically any other genre (FPS, CRPGs, you name it) I prefer to play on the PC because they are just better in that format. For example, I have no fucking idea how anyone plays Pillars of Eternity on a console. Baffling.

Anyway, performance is good and I have a decent TV (50 inches, but no HDR and not 4k). If I upgraded my TV I'm sure it would look better, but it does not disappoint so far.

Found the claymore moveset greatsword in front of the castle gates. Time to party!

Okay, the gank squad in the dark cave is really starting to piss me off. I dig that they added a tiny bit of stealth element but in this particular case it's inconsistent as fuck. Also I'm getting sick of accidentally crouching while in the middle of a tense fight. The crouch/stealth mechanic is my one major gripe thus far.

yeah it's happened to me where I feel like I didn't even press crouch but my dude got stuck in a crouch somehow anyway mid fight

mmm anyway IDK how I feel about this so far I've been playing wretch class for 3 hours and
  • have yet to find any armor or new weapons despite exploring fully like 5 different caves and killing a bunch of bosses
  • Not really digging how FS likes to put some bosses that are clearly (speaking from souls game experience) not intended to be fought in the beginning, right at the beginning (first boss that you're supposed to die to, horse guy right when you get out into world, some trap chest near the beginning teleported me to a zone that's meant for much higher levels, storm gate boss that game literally recommends you fight immediately etc..)
  • kinda wish, if they're doing this open world crap, that the compass had skyrim style markers telling me where dungeon entrances are because I don't really have the autism to search behind every rock for hidden entrances
  • seriously missing sekiro style combat since elden ring combat is back to souls-style spam rolling into enemies like a retard to "dodge"
  • again I don't really have any sense of direction, the game is pointing me towards an area that's way too high level, and exploring the 'starting area' is really tedious since it seems like a bunch of empty space, with random bullshit bosses that way outlevel me, and a few level appropriate dungeons sparsely scattered

I abandoned the direction I was going due to it being a crashing hot-spot and headed for the swamp. Killed some giant crabs for the crime of migrating from the previous game and met a dude in a lampshade hat that warned me of a dragon. Feeling ill-equipped for such a challenge, I made my way towards the starting point, where a mounted knight in golden armor kicked my ass repeatedly. I got past by avoiding him, met Santa and proceeded further until I stumbled across a wolf's cave. The boss was a pushover and apparently now there is a 'Return to the entrance' teleport at the end of dungeons, instead of clever loop-back-around paths. Decline.

That keeps happening to me as well, quite annoying.
What I find even more irritating is that double tapping it unsummons the horse. Also just pressing it while sprinting with the horse. On the one hand, it's faster when you want to dismount rather that Y + whatever direction you assigned the ring to. On the other hand, it keeps happening while I'm trying to fight the Tree Sentinel and I got 3 deaths just because of that.

I figure I need to go tool around in the button config for this game just because of dual use scenarios like that screwing with me. My favourite was when I was trying to outrun something that I knew I could outrun, but I ended up crouch "sneaking" and died horribly.

Early game boss spoilers ahead but this shit needs to be brought to light. Forgive the camera placement because I was using my knees.

you're supposed to summon for that boss, it's literally how they designed the encounter. any time there's an npc summon right in front of the entrance it means the encounter is designed with the npc in mind.
