Magic is a lot more powerful than you think, stack int , then use the potion to have no fp consumption. Cast terra magica, charge comet azur, you can oneshot many bosses. Then it's a lot easier during the game and in pvp guided missiles can be a killer.
Try to see if Malenia is going to stay around for your comet azur, she dodges even fast attacks like L2-R2 of moonveil. Plus this kind of hyper preparation (use a potion you can only use once until you get to a site of grace again etc) doesn't really work for general exploration and a L2-R2 of powerful unique weapons will deal with groups of monsters far better than the slow to cast spells that use a ton of FP comparatively.

Mages can have their day in a specific context with a specific setup but I still think it's shit compared to using int based weapon arts.
In this case i'll simply use the usual combo , rock sling+ meteorite staff, that is devastating most of the time they work like guided missile if slow its well enough for pve. You can get that early . One tanky summon, or anything really , roll away stay at distance till the summon gets attention, then hammer it with rock sling, sometime it even break their poise.A well done magic build is considerably easier than anything else i could try , except on rykard fight that require using the serpent spear .

The only time I tried to use rock sling as a replacement for bow use this POS kept losing half of its projectiles hitting things like the random item decorations, the wall, uneven ground etc.

It's easier to just sprint to something and spam L2-R2 really.

DS3 has a hyper bonanza of bonfires everywhere, DS2 had the gems, Elden Ring has the stakes of marika plus a shitton of sites of grace, I don't think estus use in exploration is a major problem. (and ds1 got horribly broken if you upgraded the bonfires to +20 if I recall right the max amount after killing pinwheel)
I think wer talking about slightly different things.
My theory is that in ds3, a lot of people did not take to shields because the chip damage in the early game is a drain on your health management, particularly when you have few pots and your not familiar with things like spacing between bonfires. Hence, we hear a lot from people who just learned to dodge roll and started two handing on their first playthrough. Like that guy you quoted earlier.

I think your having an argument with someone who thinks that shields in souls games are bad, but that person isn't me.

In the open world, you also generate flasks by killing groups of enemies and bug-balls.
Open world is just riding around, killing stuff and having fun. They leave flask management for the dungeons.

I am struggling with her sephiroth thousand cut attack for sure.
As soon as you see her preparing to do the attack you have to sprint directly away from her, this will dodge the first two, for the third you have to dodge under her as she jumps to you to do it. This does not work if she initiates the combo while you're in melee range, if she does that it's impossible to dodge I believe (might be possible with quickstep weapon arts.)

Then if the terrain cause too much trouble, just spam some glintstone peble or the improved versions (not really improved tbh).

Why am I cosplaying a barbarian if I'm using a katana? It's a mystery! (no, I just used too many upgrade mats on it to switch at this point)

I have come to the conclusion that mounted combat is a trap.
I spend so much time fighting the guard to the capitol on my horse (because I could, didn't even tried on foot). Later you're forced to fight the same enemy without your horse and it was much easier.

I had a similar experience with the
Fire Giant
Many tries on horse until I tried without and he was much easier.

Yeah, horse is good for the higher mobility, fast jumping / escaping enemies. The really really big ones are a lot easier on foot.

I didn't fight the fire garbage while mounted, but I did call upon the horse every time he spazzed far away to catch up with him, much more effective than sprinting because this piece of shit really likes to move far away. (fuck this kind of retarded aff boss design)

Mounted combat is garbage but the horse has its use. Always used to it to catch up to dragons too, then dismounted and used weapon arts.

Sometimes I wish people would finish games before making videos to circlejerk about how amazing they are

Also Sterling should buy a more expensive wig

I think it's very telling that a lot of the reviewers who gave the game perfect 10/10 scores also often stated that they didn't have time to finish it.
