while some merchent is just chilling out on the steps being all "oh hey..this place is great for customers"
Me: leaving roundtable hold to farm some runes, and returning back just one minute later
Blacksmith: huh, it's been a while. i thought you died somewhere

Me: meeting a nomadic merchant in Limgrave, leaving him, returning back 100 hours later because I forgot to buy a crafting cookbook
Merchant: oh, good customer. back so soon?

Has anybody found a way to dodge Malenia's flurry attack when you are close to her? I know you can dodge it if you keep a certain distance from her when she does it.
Easy mode: equip a dagger with bloodhound step in your second slot, switch to it when she does the move

Hard mode: whatever the fuck this Korean guy is doing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72_yLXmIJN4 (second half of the video is for close range)

I think you're reading too much into it and have probably put more thought in than whoever wrote his story did

Author's dead, baby. Author's dead.
the author is dead and you play the role of legendary detective sherlock holmes
...cultist version who solves cases by daydreaming solutions and seeing those come true through a ritual based on drugs and Watson's smegma. ( nah, I don't have Lithium skill with words but you get the idea)

Tangent: there's this modernish tabletop roleplaying game called "Brindlewood Bay" where players are three old ladies solving supernatural cthulhesque mysteries. The catch? The players themselves come with the mysteries solutions, as long as they 1) agree among themselves on it and 2) they find enough clues to do it. Sounds fun.

Yeah, that is the same way I did it, is in the spoiler. I should also had specify that I meant how could you dodge it using light/medium rolls while still being up close to her, my bad. He stills left a certain amount of space and waits for her to attack before running away, but, if for example, you hit her and then she decides to do that attack while you are recovering from the attack animation, even if you react as soon as possible and run, you will be still get caught. Is the only attack where that really happens, you can attack and dodge anything else but that one. So you basically have to attack, walk away and drop pressure to see what is she going to do, and then dodge. It also can happens on those instances when she is waiting for you to attack. Sometimes she will jump just as you hit her, so it discourages you to attack and instead wait for her to act first. This can be avoided with shield or by baiting her with a throwing knife of course, but only because the flurry is so long and the tracking so strong in that first set that dodging it is impossible in that situation.

I think summoning for bosses was a mistake.

I've tried to help people killing Loretta - the most useless boss ever - and they still die like dipshits ... which makes me wonder how the hell did they reached Haligtree on their own!?

Unfortunately the answer is pretty obvious: they were carried by other players. And I don't know how to feel about it.

If you feel bad because other people have fun in co-op you can always invade and ruin their fun.

I always figure the Blacksmith was written by my dog.

A western CRPG would have done a check for how long since you last talked to the guy or something. A good one I mean.

Yeah but I just left the Hold and came right back because (unless I am mistaken) you can't access your chest there?

It is clear that the blacksmith was thought to have dementia or similar, lore-wise.
He says it himself, he's going the way of the hold. As it crumbles, so does he.

His final lines of dialogue after achieving his destiny of forging a legendary weapon are rather tragic.
The one where he calls you his lord punched me in the gut. I came for some weapon upgrades, left with feels.

I stood right on top of that damn thing and never saw a resting spot. God I was thinking today I need to go to the eye doctor because this eye surgery has worn off and this has proven it. This shit happens all the time! Glasses again!? Shit!

RIP PRK eye surgery 2005-2022

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Only now I noticed Godrick didn't drop his great rune. Now I can't find it anywhere and the activation tower is locked.

Anybody else had this problem? Is this a bug?
It doesn't show in your inventory until you activate it.

Are you sure you actually killed GODRICK? Lotta people confused Margit with Godrick, or the Grafted wandering in the hall with Godrick.

Did you actually ge tthe achievement for killing Godrick?
The names could've used a bit of work. I mean, there's Marika, Melina, Malenia and Miquella who are all different characters.
The good thing about that is that I'm immune to spoilers as a result. People say "Malekilulenia is such a bullshit fight" and I have no fucking idea who they're talking about and whether or not I've already done it.

Speaking of which, the talk earlier reminded me that I should probably figure out what the business is with these rune things. I vaguely remember them being mentioned in the opening cinematic and I keep picking up these Runic Arcs, so it might be worthwhile. Really the only thing I remember from the opening cinematic is that there's a character called shit eater. At least in Dark Souls 1 you had Frampt there to give you further direction once you'd reached a milestone in the story, here it's just that northern fellow in the roundtable hold library who tells you the names of some people to kill so you can go to the capital. And now that I've reached it, instead of giving me further instructions he's locked himself away. I'll just keep randomly killing shit, I guess. Maybe give the intro a rewatch.

At least my objective as far as I know is still to become Elden Lord, so it's already an improvement over Dark Souls 2 where "cure the curse" just kind of fizzled out about halfway through.

One thing in these games that (certainly intentionally) puzzled me was the timeframe of events. They of course take place in fantasy settings where we can't exactly apply our understanding of linear time, but its passage regardless seems slooooow. How long ago has it been since Gwyn began linking the flame? How long has it been between DaS 1 and 2/3? I think they explicitly state the night of black knives happened long after the shattering, but how long has it been since then? The crone at the hold mentions tens of thousands of moons for the fingers to come back with an answer, but who knows how long an actual month would be in the first place. Doesn't help that no one ages normally in these games.

Yeah, for a couple days I was bummed that I had a massive spoiler that I'll be fighting the maiden, due to the names being so close.

I wanted to try my best to make a tank build, I thought maybe I could do it if I minmaxed hard enough. I got 133 poise and 82% physical damage reduction, I was poiseing through Morgotts attacks, I felt confident that maybe it was possible to tank through the game (albeit only on ng+) I was wrong, Malenia killed my dreams. Maliketh broke my mind. It was pretty good though, even if I still had to roll out of attacks like a dweeb the damage reduction was quite helpful. Poise seems to work like it does in DS1 but heavily nerfed, with 133 poise I was usually able to poise through 2 attacks in a row before getting staggered, although some boss attacks would always stagger me since they simply did too much poise damage.

How did you manage to get 133 poise. Most I can seem to get is 75.
