Agree. I hate strictly open world games, unless they are restricted in scope (Gothic, New Vegas). If this is going to be open world, I hope it will be smaller, with properly hand crafted locations.

What's in those screenshots, but the same knights and monsters, the same ruins, and decade-old lighting tricks? Nothing wrong with liking it, but it is thematically and visually dated.

This. I'm 100% positive we're not gonna get the Ubi-style checkmark based open world. It's p. much certain it's gonna be a continuous map with instances like Darksiders 2 or MGS V. As long as the instances are just as good as BB or DS levels it's fine, the open world filler can give it a less gamey, more immersive feeling.

I think you are confused.
One of the most important things (which are many in DS1) is not that its NOT open world,its its world and level design, which is amazing.
I guess you meant the world design is amazing cause it isnt open world, which i do agree, but i also think an impressive world design can be made in an open world, while maybe losing some of it in exchange for bigger maps and that kind of shit.
Maybe im fabulously optimistic in FROM, dunno.
But i actually expect great things from this, and hope i will invest many hours in it.
