Lake of Rot is hardly a memorable or "fleshed out" location compared to the other 90% of open areas/dungeons, at least in my memory. It probably received some of the least effort to develop and could be much better. If we're talking dream dungeon holy $$ dlc packs, I just want an actual one to get lost in, and maybe go a few more layers deep into.. Especially with the many bonfires/teleports in the base game, you never really feel at risk, or lost, ever. I'd say it's one of the bigger fouls of the game.. yes there's a journey, but it's just too abstract and heavily fragmented..

(and, sure, it's large and a fresh playthrough may be 100 hours or more, but most of us know now we could skip a large amount of that if we ever played again.. One of the few times I'd be into an "expansion pack" in modern days)

You can just eat the rot tick and explore the whole thing with ease. Only tricky part is the fight with the giant.

My Lake of Rot experience was rendered even more uneventful by the fact the Ulcerated Tree Spirit at the bottom of the ruins managed to kill himself with rot before i even got there lmao.

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
I had heard that Mimic Tear is absolutely bonkers but I just thought it was because it stays alive longer than the other spirits. Now I got it fully upgraded and it basically does half the damage to bosses, insane. Got through Mohg on first attempt because it did essentially most of the job.

Once you get that and upgrade it there's no reason to use any other spirit I'd say. Some have personal quests though, like the jellyfish or Latenna the ALBINAURIC WOMAN.

A friend of mine who completed a spirit ashes only playthrough claims that Black Knife Tiche is the superior choice most of the times. I can't say for sure since I haven't tried them enough, but Redmane Knight Ogha and the Dung Eater Puppet should also be on par with the Mimic Tear (if not better, in the case of the poopoo swallower).

Well, most of the "named" spirit ashes are pretty good, but depending on how broken your build is, then you might get a truly obscene mimic tear. My mimic tear can take a beating better than my own character lol

Well, I didn't try mimic since the nerf but I think that if you give it full bull armor, erdtree heal, fingerprint shield, moghwyn trident, night comet, a staff, a seal, wrath of gods spell etc., he'll have a little bit more of a survivabilty.

- Mimic is OP and tanks well but it depends on your build. Don't give him spell, he's an idiot with them. God knows what it was like pre nerf because its still ridiculously tanky.
- Tiche won't tank but melts boss health bars. Omenkiller Rollo is hyper aggressive and bullies smaller bosses like Malenia.
- Greatshield soldiers are the best tank but don't do much damage. Banished Knight Oleg will beat the early game for you but falls off a bit in the late game.
- Latenna is a good summon for people who don't like summons. Its a bit of a role reversal. She has relevant DPS but is extremely fragile, so you have to protect her.
- Stormhawk Deenh isn't even a summon really, just a flying buff.

I'd suggest not using summons if this isn't your first From Software game. If it is, go nuts.

Unless they've changed it (and I can't imagine that they have), the Mimic has unlimited mana, so can spam really expensive spells non-stop. There were videos of a mimic blowing up bosses with unlimited high end spells or even just spamming the huge aoe heal and basically making everyone invincible. It got nerfed, but it's still OP (unless things changed since the last time I played, which is possible).

My Mimic uses the kamehameha as if it was a comet though, it uses spells frequently but then again I've a staff and sword build right now.

My mimic used to cast in melee range and get interrupted buffing in the enemy's face. He was still a useful tank but much better if I unequipped my sacred seal before I summoned him. He used to actually help with damage when full melee.

Done my second playthrough. First one was blind, so of course I missed a lot of stuff. It's been an amazing experience, despite some repetitive content. Still better than any open world game other studios have put out in the last decade. The thing I disliked the most was fighting big enemies like the Fire Giant, Pladicusax (whatever his name is), Elden Beast etc. I was fighting the camera more than the boss itself. The open world does seem a bit too big, but they struck just the right amount of ways to traverse and snappy animations that it doesn't get as annoying as in other open world games.

The highlights for me were Radahn, Malenia, Niall, and Maliketh, those fights were really enjoyable. I used Great Stars at the start, then went back to the old reliable Claymore with Ultra Greatsword from time to time. There are so many unique weapons, but most of them looked cheesy imo. Some ashes of war should literally be deleted from the game lol, especially Lion's Claw. I humiliated Malenia with that thing. Tbh, most of the bosses seemed a bit easy, probably they were nerfed in the last few months. Shame.

Please give us DLC Miyazaki-san. More bosses and legacy dungeons, less filler open world stuff, please.
