Anyway playing this feels like courting a girl.

You have to treat it woth care, patience and respect, as she opens up to you, getting closer and closer till she willing to spread her legs and embrace you with love and passion.

Then again i have been single for the last 5 years lol

Holy shit, hobo. That is a cautionary tale if I ever heard one. Five years is some drought. Maybe don't post here so much? Maybe I should stop posting before my girlfriend leaves me and I never get laid again.

I think your analogy makes more sense if we're talking about dating virgins when you're in high school--lots of work, but the payoff was usually worth it, just like Elex. At least in my experience, though, by your late twenties, anyone who doesn't want to jump into bed with you pretty quickly is a write off. Then again, I like games with a steep learning curve a lot more than people with a steep learning curve.

I think I’m going to finally play Gothic 3 when this is done
Tip:
Don't.

If not Gothic 3, what about Risen 2 or 3? I have a hankering for more PB that I haven't played before.

ppl itt already finishing while i'm barely level 13 or sth :negative:

Finished twice already and am replaying Gothic 1 now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m more than 40 hours in, just hit level 30 and got to the highest rank with the Clerics (is it just me or did someone fuck up the translation for the top Cleric rank—all the NPCs call you a Paladin, but it’s not Paladin armor it’s Regent armor. I think someone screwed up because Paladin’s the top Berserker rank and Regent just sounds better for the Clerics. Does anyone know what the faction ranks are in German?).

Nah, they use the term Paladin as well. It's in several lines of dialog with the combat specialist guy (name starts with an H, and was one of the Hort chem dealer suspects).

That's what I mean, though. The dialogue is all Paladin, but the item descriptions are all Regent. I feel like it got mistranslated for the voice-over work and they didn't catch it in time to fix it. After all, it seems kind of dumb to give them the same name as another faction, and Paladin fits so much better with the medieval worldview of the Berserkers. As with everything, I'm sure it makes more sense in the original German.

well i didnt want to spent atribute points to strenght/constitution,i hoarded them for dex/int for my lazer needs, thats why i rushed to ignaton.
too bad i cant kill anyhting with the lazer rifle.:negative:

should i also go to the fort after the bezerkers for ultimum xp?

The two best energy weapons in the game require very high strength (above 80). You’ll get them late but investing those points is not a waste. Also, no reason you can’t use a bow in the early game—it benefits from the same ranged combat skill as guns do.

And yes, do the other faction quests for the Berserkers and Outlaws before you sign up with the Clerics. Lots of EXP you don’t want to pass up.

That's around where I am and I have about 30 hours in-game time. I'm apparently the slowest motherfucker at playing this game, but I can't help constantly getting distracted and running off to explore something that catches my eye. Usually not the best way to gain XP. Still having an extremely enjoyable time.

Lvl 5, 45 hours in game. Same behavior too. Also, I want to join more NPC before I satrt to make Berserkers quest, to see what the additional things they can bring for finishing quest.
I heard and saw they can huggle for you additional reward at least.

in reality i got diverted so far that i accidentally found my way into the playa stronghold
You know how I found it? Met albs near Edan's converter, talked to them, and just went with them, and oops - what I see, some small town.

I like games with a steep learning curve a lot more than people with a steep learning curve

:D Well said.

About melee combat again.

Paladin fits Clerics far more -- especially since they are religious sycophants and have a "god and armor, purge the unclean" mentality; Paladin makes no sense for the serks since they don't have a god. Further, when you ask Ragnar for armor like his, he refers to it as "Warlord's armor".

I dislike that the Berserkers are in fact called Berserkers despite they're just a bunch of viking larping hippies. They should have been called "the clans" or something else (can't call them Nordmarians I guess.)

edit: What's the 2nd rank for serks?

Outlaws are: Runner -> Enforcer -> Captain (don's camp from risen, lel)
Clerics are: Acolyte -> Legate -> Paladin
Berserkers are: Cultivator -> ???(hunter???) -> Warlord?

I really honestly have no problem with the combat using KB + M.

Same. Once I learned to use the alt roll button instead of double tapping movement keys, it became much easier to manage. I had realized that you can hit multiple enemies without locking on pretty early on (was doing that to run around enemies faster instead of the slow strafe locking on causes) and it's not bad at all.

It's not quite souls status, but it seems like a legit effort to create a similar system.

Also, tangentially related, I got a chainsaber 3 now and melee is monstrous. Jetpack attack can often one-shot enemies that take 3 shots from the Reedemer.

Paladin makes more sense for the clerics because they're explicitly religious. Berserkers should be Warlord or Commander or something--strictly martial.

How are the modding tools for this game? Do you guys think there'll be any significant mods for this?

do you guys always run with companions?

No, they are cheat mode in early game then later theyre kind of alright as distractions in big fights but in smaller fights having extra combatants makes combat jankier

And Ray is the only really cool one anyway

The Berserkers go cultivator -> warrior -> paladin. I think Ragnar's warlord armor might be different from warrior armor and is not gettable, because you can't become a warlord.

I have to disagree on Paladin--the world only has a super religious connotation because of D&D. It never meant anything like priest or warrior priest; it more implied a super chivalrous knight who was trusted by the king. See Charlemagne's twelve peers in the Song of Roland, or Malory's Death of Arthur. It would fit very well with the anachronism of the Berserkers. Even if Paladin is the intended term for a top level Cleric, I bet they're using a different word than the Berserker's Paladins. Maybe Pfalzgraf, which means count palatine/count of the palace--that could translate as either regent or paladin. My knowledge of german is very limited, though.

We could solve this in a heartbeat if any German speakers can tell us what the actual words are in the game's native language.

You can change difficulty mid-game, so just start on whatever and adjust as necessary. Later, when you get tier 2 energy or plasma weapons, you may want to raise difficulty if you're not already on Ultra as it becomes a bit too easy.

Flamethrowers especially are retarded. Cheap as hell ammo, fast attack, huge "magazine", fast as hell reload, etc.

Plasma too, with the orb setting.

Those should at least use more ammo, have slower rate of fire, or something to balance out how ridiculous they are.

I still love blasting people around tho, pretty funny.

Do we actually know what changes numerically with difficulty or is it as obscure as a lot of other stuff?

Kyl Von Kull I dunno if norse larpers are a good comparison to chivalry m80. I just can't reconcile the concept of orderly righteous person with pelt armor + zerker raaaaage. I'm also going off of how Paladins have been portrayed in other PB games and it's always been fire + innos + rules = armor.

I assumed the warlord armor is gettable since the intro splash screen shoes Jax in it, but that's pure assumption on my part (it's also the same that Caldrim, Cormag, and Agrim wear.)

Regardless, it's still weird that the names are repeated.

Level 18 and 28 hours into the game (I haven't played anything else since release). I love this game, it's like playing Gothic 1 and 2 all over again. I don't get what the complaints are all about (except the multiple item management not having a slider or keyboard input, and the broken quest you get from The Fort's main gate guards). The graphics are pretty good and who gives a shit if they didn't use motion capture? The characters in Ultima VII moved like epileptic nazis on parade and that has never stopped from enjoying that game. Kids these days...

I'm a similar slow & easily-distracted explorer. I just love a game that has interactive environments. I will take that fine dining fork, thanks! For like the first 15 hours I didn't even leave Goliet though because I thought I wasn't leveled up enough to get anywhere else on the map, lolz.

No, it ruins the PB feeling for me. Too bad, because they clearly put a lot of work into them, and from what I've seen they are actually pretty well done.
i’m tempted to go around alone, too many accicental dialogue during looting but the interaction during exploration and quest is too good

If not Gothic 3, what about Risen 2 or 3? I have a hankering for more PB that I haven't played before.
Risen 2 has god awful combat but some of the quests are alright, the world is pretty, there's some funny dialogue, very good music and a likable main character. Just wait until you unlock the shotgun (actually a musket, it's a translation error) and spam dodge rolls to avoid hits. It's really not a super h4rd c00r RPG for real 1337 gaymers but it was pretty enjoyable for me.
Risen 3 has pretty okay melee combat and you can still spam dodgerolls to avoid hits. It wasn't as memorable as Risen 2 and I felt that was too fantasy with all the magic shit instead of the pirate theme. The main character is shit and sounds like he has down syndrome. There aren't that many good quests and I just plain hate how the game looks. It's like PB decided that fuck color and sunshine and that everything needs to be fucking gray with constant rainfall, the only colorful place is one of the islands but everything else is pretty shit. The storyline is kinda boring and the ending is pretty obviously unfinished, but the world does have that sense of despair and that we're all fucked.
