After forming Hindustan as Vijayanagara, I get claims on a bunch of neighbouring provinces, but if I try to declare war on their current owners, I have no Casus Belli. Why?

Edit: Ah, nevermind. Had to wait for the end of the month/year (was December) to gain all the CBs.

So for someone who pretty much gave up on EUIII due to not being interested in map painting and feeling like I had no other incentive to play the game, does this new iteration offer some other challenges apart from "hey uh conquer these bros over here and then those bros over there"? I mean that's fine for a while, but I dunno, it doesn't motivate me that much any more.

it is pretty much a map painter all over again, mostly due to bugged diplomacy and personal unions being as they are now.

I assume the game must become much more lively and interesting when played in MP, just like CK2. Otherwise I feel there's little point to kicking around the AI...

New game as Aragon, this time I plan to control all trade from the Americas and to bypass and monopolize all trade from Asia. Naples and Algiers are my vassals.

Interesting things to note:
- The Mameluks were strong, but their manpower was drained. A quick war when they had no armies at all was all it took. Worse, you just have to look at the ledger as a sort of cheat and see who's vulnerable. With Alexandria, the way is open to Asia.
- Just noticed that if you want to core the Berber regions and not incur the huge 200% coring cost increase, wait 50 years for their core to expire. Or just vassalize them, it's incredibly easy. After some quick conquests I feared wars with my neighbors so I let Morocco slip by...
- Avoiding wars as a trading nation is really hard. Though I'm trying to best, my border with Castille puts me at -158 "border tension" modifier, crazy. And that small border with my BFF and ally France? -100 modifier and things are quickly turning sour. I'm not really sure why they're pushing war like this, it's very hard to stay at peace with the same neighbors.

Devs said they will rework border tensions significantly since they indeed are too strong right now. Something about limiting them to core territories only in most crucial areas.

Overall I'm pretty excited about what they can do with the diplomacy in this game, since it's a very robust baseline system.

When it comes to Border Friction penalty, I think one of the main problems is that it also affects something you have next to no control over: Your own country's opinion of the target.

Decided to stretch my legs as byzantium and come to the aid of wurtemberg against austria, 4 years of grinding attritional warfare before i said bollocks and abandoned the alliance. Tell you what, you keep your wet, squalid, mountain provinces and i'll hang on to my disgustingly lucrative anatolia thanks.

Europe...wot a fucking catholic shithole

Yes, truly amazing, lets focus on "civilizations" fighting with stone weapons. You should be happy natives are even allowed to tech beyond lvl 1 in any tech.

No, you potato headed fuck. With the amount of shite that's copy pasta'd in this glorified expansion it's about time they filled in the fucking blanks.

At least Catholics don't have a convert rate of 0% with multiple missionary strength bonuses. Fuck sunnis in the ass, man. I realized too late that the major factor driving conversion rate late-game is tax income, so I'm stuck with half a dozen provinces I'll never be able to convert because they're rich, jewish sunnis raking in the gold.

Pro tip for everyone else: don't build any income-increasing buildings in provinces you want to convert.

It is based on natural tax rate. You can build any building you want it wont affect it.

I don't get why people flip out ovr map painting. The games are complicated simulations, so it's like complaining The Sims is about being a rich successful person.

Man, I fucking hate LARPers in The Sims. Forcing themselves into stupid situations instead of hitting the gym nonstop to max out their Body stat so they can get a raise and build the most efficient Mood-boosting house layout in the game.

this is extremely correct and crits zeriel for 200 knowledge hard in the face. zeriel stumbles and falls down.

I'm a massive idiot, then. Although I could have sworn I've had that % go up repeatedly, and not in provinces that had base tax changes from events.

If you are catholic just hang around till you get the "embrace the counter-reformation" decision. Then you'll probably have enough to convert most things.

My Personal Unions are (takes a deep breath): France, Denmark, Pomerania, Poland, Sweden, Austria and Naples. And Tripoli is currently my vassal.
Don't you get a penalty for too many diplomatic relations?

I'm at 8/8.

That dutch sodomite blob, also Spain and France are everyones bitch. Glorious Paradoxian ASB scenario.

Technically the Dutch blob was France at one point, so their size isn't too surprising. Long story short, in CK2 some Norse Dutchmen expanded into the remnants of West Francia and ended up taking the Kingdom of France for themselves. Then in EU4 they decided to stop being France and form the Netherlands. Their King is Polish now though.

Who the heck are those Salaghurid chaps?

I think they're remnants of the Turk invaders who managed to reclaim some land after the Golden Horde collapsed.
