The guy's right about EU2. EU2 taught me a lot and made me the teacher's pet in AP History. EU3 & 4 made my brain turn into mush.

Any of you guys tried administrative ideas with a nation that already has a bonus to mercenaries? I read you can make them cheaper than normal troops then and ofc they dont cost any manpower either. Seems viable.

I read almost the entire Civilopedia from Civ1 as a kid. My school teachers didn't have any new information for me until my junior year of high school

Yeah, you can. It's powerful, but not absurdly so*. You still have to pay to reinforce, you still take war exhaustion when they die, and past a certain point manpower just isn't important anymore. Also in EU3 mercs didn't get some bonuses to morale, not sure if that's still the case in EU4.

I think in most cases it's still stronger to pick actual military ideas that make your units stronger, some of which also reduce their cost. In testing I think general cost modifiers like -land maintenance that they provide don't work on mercs, so regular troops with that might be about as costly as mercs with the merc stuff.

*Exception for Sweden, who gets nearly the best military bonuses in the game and gets them far earlier than any other nation. They are fucktardedly strong if they start the merc spam.

Jesus... forgot that the second to last HRE decision makes pretty much everyone declare war on you. Fucking sucks... my HRE super-state isn't going to be as super as I wanted it to be.

I'm assuming the CB is supposed to be for Napolean-era shit going down. The fact that you can get it hundreds of years earlier in EU4 is kind of silly.

Alright... I need a new nation. Did Brandenburg -> Prussia -> Germany -> HRE, and did France. Thinking maybe I'll go for more of a challenge this time.

Oirats can swallow the mongols then go on a rapepath to China.

Uzbeks on the other hand live 24/7 ITZ between Timurids having claims in everything and the northern tribes hating your ass.

Well, this was a pretty impressive game I think. Took just over 100 years to break free for Oirats (jesus fuck you take -3 stability to declare war on your master, fuck that shit), swallow shit everywhere, colonize, westernize and the rest. Even have a PU still with Vaginascar.

Berbers? Aragon? Papal States?

You know what needs to be done now. The Mongol Rape train never leaves a job undone.
NO STOPPING UNTIL THE ATLANTIC OCEAN!

But we're already in the Atlantic ocean silly. The sun never sets on the Mongol Empire.

Anyway, EU is such a drag when you're this big, it's not worth playing any longer. I'd put the game on observe mode and let the AI play to the end, but the AI is so shit at managing the navy and stability and rebels that they will collapse in a few decades I'm sure. Plus it will hire 15 military leaders and have absolutely no military mana to spend.

Baluchistan, Rise of the Andhairavids!

Playing Islam in India almost feels like cheating since you get holy war and the Hindus don't. Though I imagine surviving the Timurids' wrath might be difficult.

Mongol Khanate is one of the harder starts in the game (though it quickly becomes easy since China is basically free land). Japan OTOH is ridiculous easy mode. Possibly the easiest country in the game considering how pathetic your competition is.

Not super worried with difficulty atm... more concerned with different gameplay at the moment. I'll flip a coin later.

Hmm, how do you become a Theocracy?
When I played other countries, I've always seen Tibet go Llama, but now that I'm playing as Tibet I don't see any relevant decisions or any revolt risk to speak of.

As england i noticed i wasn't running into any spaniards in south america, decided to see what was going on with them and i discovered they're locked into a broken AI loop with aragon. Here's hoping for the hundred years war dago edition.

Yet another uprising in Japan.
In my Sweden campaign, right now I'm looking at a Japan where somehow every province got turned Catholic by a horde of Zealots.
