I want to play this game so badly right now, but I'm in a situation where it's impossible to buy it. But I refuse to use any "unofficial" means to do so, then, it seems I'll have to wait until July.
But after seeing all that butthurt about the game's difficulty, is torture not being able to see it first hand. That's sad.

Spanish were not very good at colonizing and usually acted like proper dicks while going about it, Portuguese on the other hand... :incline:

Take Brazil as an example,

Fun fact: Of all the slaves brought to the new world 48% were brought to the Caribbean, 41% to Brazil and only 5% to America. In the US slaves were treated like livestock, in the Caribbean and Brazil they were simply worked to death and replaced by a constantly streaming conveyor belt across the ocean.

Why is garbage like Alan Wake, DmC and that furry game outselling this on Steam? Maybe the evil publishers were right and people just don't want incline.

Can I marry my own daughter on this game?

Uh, first off it's because they're on sale.

Also, you can edit the followers in the XMLs in the override folder.

About that. I tried going into C:\Users\Ulminati\Documents\My Games\Expiditions Conquistador\Override\English and editing the contents of <GivenName> and <FamilyName> tags to properly codexian names in both Level0.xml and Level1.xml. However, on restarting the game and starting a new game, the characters still display their default spanish names.

I tried copying everything into a seperate folder named RPGCodex. This enables RPGCodex as a language option, but still doesn't change the contents of the files.

What gives?

Just finished the Hispaniola section of the first campaign, and now landed in the mainland (I don't know if this is the 'Mexico' part, since that's still locked in New Game). A few crashes but runs well and apart from the camera no real bugs or annoyances.

It seems to have failure states for every important plot battle - if you don't rescue someone, or if you lose the grand finale battle of that segment. It's not really C&C because there's hardly any difference as far as I can see, but it is methodically implemented and that is very nice to see in a game like this.

When I played the press build I thought it's going to be a good game, but not necessarily one that is endlessly replayable. That feeling remains, though of course I haven't finished. Character development is fairly limited, so is the plot (see above), and I think once you know the maps inside and out it loses something. There isn't enough in the gameplay to make you play 3,5, etc. times - but asking for that is a bit too much, anyhow.

sser the AI is good at focus-firing, flanking, and special attacks, and sort-of uses cover, but if you take up a good defensive position and let them come at you then they do become inefficient. Which is OK, since some of the battles are about surviving for x turns.

How is the overarching story? The combat looks top notch, but something I absolutely hated about King's Bounty (closest game I can think of that's like this) was the half-assed story that didn't make me want to play the game at all, quite the opposite in fact.

Anyone know why my scouting dropped from 8 to 5 (not including bonus from units) as soon as I left the first town in the tutorial?

Is there a known bug with save games or something?

EDIT:
Yes, there is.
http://logicartists.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=628

When you load a saved game, base scouting value will be set to the value of scouting in the new character creation screen. (Default 5, but you can use this to set it back to the value you should have by starting to create a new character and then backing out of the screen to load your game.)

A patch has been promised for next week.

At the big plantations no doubt, but reading a lot of the slave narratives from the smaller outfits they were treated more like children and often apprentices.

For every 'I'll shoot myself if I became a slave again' there's these

Freedom is all right, but de niggers was better off befo' surrender, kaze den dey was looked after an' dey didn' get in no trouble fightin' an' killin' like dey do dese days. If a nigger cut up an' got sassy in slavery times, his Ole Marse give him a good whippin' an' he went way back an' set down an' 'haved hese'f. If he was sick, Marse an' Mistis looked after him, an' if he needed store medicine, it was bought an' give to him; he didn' have to pay nothin'. Dey didn' even have to think 'bout clothes nor nothin' like dat, dey was wove an' made an' give to dem. Maybe everybody's Marse and Mistis wuzn' good as Marse George and Mis' Betsy, but dey was de same as a mammy an' pappy to us niggers."

The only thing about this game that I haven't liked so far is the extremely jarring political correctness for the female party members. The racist female physician makes some sense. A female hunter would also probably pass by without looking terribly out of place.

In an atmosphere that otherwise feels authentic, it is jarring to have a peckish 19 year old girl trying to join my warband and fill the role of a front-line combatant.

The character bios for the female characters are equally hilarious. It's like they know it is stupid, so they are overcompensating terribly.

Typical female bio:
"This lady was born to fight, she reveled at the idea of combat since she was a child and killed a gang of thieves when she was a teenager before being formally trained in soldiering. Thanks to a few months of lifting, she can now bench press more than any other soldier under your command."

Typical male bio:
"This man used to be a bartender and bouncer."

Think about it for a moment.

That woman is exceptional specimen amongst all women...

...yet she is no better than average guy (the stats are the same).

The same peckish girl who tells you the best course of action is to murder all of the rebels?

Edit: But yeah, there are imo too many possible female companions. Feels a little odd.

Played this only for two hours todeh, so I guess there's still lots of things to come, but it's coolio. Sort of like Darklands meets King Arthur the Wargame.

Will gonna have to tweak the AI, though, 'cause it's seriously friggin braindead on untweaked normal difficulty.
