Anyone win the third battle of the Tournament? Took me a few go's but I eventually got it.

Avonaeon, when it comes to passing along suggestions, could you also ask about toning down the clouds in the beach combat zones? It would be a nice visual effect if it wasn't constantly making the screen look like a rapid day/night cycle was taking place. It should be subtle, but it is not.

I got through the tournament on my 1st try with only a couple of minor injuries and felt I must be much better at this than those who were saying this game is hard. :obviously:

Then I played the game for two more hours: I left to go hunt down Esteban but didn't stock up on medicine properly. Compounded the mistake by sticking to the main road and travelling through areas I had already stripped of resources, leaving myself no chance to stock up. Thought I was still kicking ass in subsequent battles, but when I ran out of meds things just snowballed. Camp management went to hell. The precious treasure I had been hoarding was being stolen at an alarming rate. Food stocks dangerously low. After three battles, only four undeveloped support chars left to fight. Total party wipe after fourth battle. Everyone injured, no meds, 2 days worth of food left, no expectation to reach town with any valuables left. :D

Reloaded to post tourney save and decided to level up a bit before messing with Esteban again.

Agree about the PC part.

Is there any other way to heal followers apart from your own doctors? I had a random encounter just before the Estaban fight and as a result most of my followers took injuries, including my doctor. Now I understand why you don't take your doctor into battle. Despite making it back to town the healing workload is too much for my PC so nearly all of my party members are all fatally/critically injured :(

The 3 guys kept killing one of hunters before I could break down the barricades at the bottom, a couple times after that I accidentally a moved a hunter into the caltrops while moving to attack. The time where I got it I only took 1 hit before breaking through the barricade.

Would be nice if the game allowed you to heal your crew while in town, don't like how you can return from a mission with wounded soldiers and then when you leave for another they are still wounded.
I would also like to see the soldiers able to fight when the wounds are light. I mean, their lives are in danger and they are not available for battle because of lacerations? They could still participate with some negative buffs of course.

I've had the same thought about healing wounded in town because it just seems out of place that reaching town with an injured party does nothing to help you. But I can see how that would throw off the balance so it doesn't bug me much.

Allowing all injured to receive one level of care in town, for a fee, would seem reasonable though. Or a bit more elaborate would be allowing for injured chars to be left in town to heal and it takes a significant amount of time for them to be discharged, meaning the trade off is that you have to play on the overland map without them for a longer time than if you cared for them yourself.

Though I am thoroughly enjoying the gameplay so far, I found a lot of unexpected pleasure out of reading the in-game Codex :smug: . It's like a mini encyclopedia which explains some of the people, places, events and concepts featured in the game. Having been educated by public schools in the USA and remaining mostly ignorant of this region's history beyond that, it was interesting to read about the time period from a different perspective.

Just completed my journey by sailing back to Spain and even though the king called me a straight up bitch and said my meager 15,000 gold was not enough to impress him, I must admit I really enjoyed the trip: :4/5:

I'd recommend ramping up the difficulty though, because as soon as you get a decent squad of six (I ran with 3 soldiers, 2 hunters and a physician and I rarely even got close to losing any battles) and a few competent support characters the game can get quite easy. The best moments definitively came early on when I felt that I was still struggling due to a mix of my own incompetence and some bad luck. Being far away from town and losing a third of your remaining rations to wild animals. Being ambushed right after your highest ranking soldier went out of commission because of a spider in his pack. That type of stuff was definitively the highlight for me.

Really bummed out by the fact that they didn't meet their Kickstarter goals for extra content.

My leader has 6 in medicine skill.

My doctor is critically poisoned.
My scholar has a moderate bone fracture.
One of my two hunters has a critical ballistic trauma.
Two of my soldiers have severe poisoning.

I have 14 medicine, 10 herbs and 40 food left.

Nearest town is a week and a half worth of travel away.

Do hunters get any better when they level up? So far, my scouts have been just amazing on the battlefield, and my ranged characters have been very unreliable.

I've used hunters to good effect, if you aren't charging people down they are crucial. Double shot is a little iffy though, to me it only makes sense to use it when you really have to take a risk. I go for one rock-solid soldier with max equipment on defense, two hunters, two scouts and a doctor.

Hunters are pretty shit until they reach 3rd level. Aimed shot and the trait that gives them accuracy/shot makes them very capable of pulling their own weight.

Interesting. I've been running with 2 scouts and 2 soldiers. Mostly because I only started with two scouts. If I had 4 of them I'd probably be using that right now. Their super high movement combined with the feint and sneak abilities lets you set up all sort of flanking attacks.

One doctor as well, and the last slot I'm not really sure about. I'd like the scholar to be good, but the abilities that seem to make him worthwhile have annoying cooldowns.

The game gets way too easy too early. It was only hard at the beginning when I had no idea what I was doing and making tons of mistakes. Stopped having trouble about 2/3rds way into Hispaniola. And on the continent I'm swimming in resources and roflstomping every encounter without injuries even when outnumbered 9:6. Playing on the highest difficulty of course.

Well, Cortez did lay siege to Mexico with like 13 horses and 13 cannons, so I guess that is pretty realistic. :P

Really good game but like some of our bros stated it become easy quickly. Also got good replayability value with different group and decisions. Im playing as a total pillaging prick now, probably going to be an angel on my next playthrough.
I run with 3/2 scouts, 2/3 warriors and 1 doctor most of the time in battles. After getting them to 3rd rank I started to face roll battles, scouts have way to much mobility and warriors stuns save lots of life. Tactical options before some combats makes them even easier. I forgot to use traps often.

None of you are using scholars in combat? Distraction is pretty damn good and Logistics can save you from a bind every so often. Distraction requires veteran rank but you need a veteran scholar to max out your inventions anyway.

2 scouts, 1 soldier, 1 trapper, 1 scholar, 1 doctor is what I usually use on mexico. On hispaniola replace the trapper with another soldier.

This is a really buggy game so far. I've had two ironman runs killed by separate bugs: one, a repeating "Quest Updated" note when approaching a quest marker. The other where the talk options wouldn't come up. I got back to the main city to turn in a quest --- words would appear, but nothing to "choose" to be said. Can't get out of it or do anything. Reload game. Same everywhere else. Sweet. Kinda done with the game for now after insta-gibbed progress like that.

Scholar and Doctor is a bit too much 'support', Scholar is good if you are facing even numbers and/or can control the circumstances of the attack; doctor is good if you're going to be under fire and especially poison a lot.

sser I've had a very good experience, only the occasional crash.

I usually use 2/3 Soliders, 2 Hunters and a Doctor, sometimes swapping in a Scout for a Solider. My Scholar never sees combat. Using two support units seems wasteful, and I find healing more important.

I use double shot whenever I have greater than a 50% chance for each shot. At 50% you have a 75% chance of hitting at least once, with a 25% chance of doing double damage.

Yeah, I usually get that when killing a unit. But I once got it after an event and got unlimited gold and rations!

But I couldn't do anything but exit the game, so I didn't get to keep any of it.
