If they really want those new voiceovers

Do they want it? or do they have to do it cos of copyright whatever? If latter, like you said; why not just instruct people to copy VO from original FNV when(if ever) the mod completed instead of re-recording 65k lines.?

I believe there are actual copyright concerns from the Toddler's end. Open MW for instance was trucking along just fine with requiring the original Morrowind files but then Beth got wind of the Android port. Now the devs of Open MW can neither advertise the Android port of Open MW as a way to play Morrowind on phones or advertise that it exists at all. The New Vegas conversion devs probably don't want to risk a similar situation.

Btw Open MW on android is great with a controller. Shh, keep it to yourselves.

Corporate bullying tactics.
Reverse engineering is fair use in US law, OpenMW is an original creation and doesn't distribute any copyrighted works with it. This has been settled time and time again with emulators in court.

Yeah that suprises me. The mod is not only out but has a bunch of submods and an overhaul fully released on the Nexus. It's a straight remake of Morrowind onto Oblivion as opposed to Skywind's "Reimagining" to make it palatable to the kids.

All right. Listen up, "fren". You really think I wouldn't resurrect the thread for this? The excitement followed by disappointment people feel when hoping for an update on this trainwreck only to get my autistic sperging instead is nothing but a bonus. There is nothing that would stop me from doing something as petty as this. Nothing.

The mod Trans-Financial-Man linked to up there is not the actual mod, but a mod to the mod. More specifically, it's a modding guide. So it's not really a mod at all, but a collection of patches and tools and who gives a shit. The actual Morroblivion mod appears to have been finished in 2014, with all quests (base game and expansions) implemented. There's even an LP up on Youtube where a guy bashes in Dagoth Ur's incredibly ugly head back in 2012, suggesting the base game was mostly finished already. The mod is apparently very buggy, so it should pass the Bethesda Quality Bar for a Released Product with flying colors.

The mod has gained a limited amount of renown on the internet, with an LP video from 3 years ago reaching 50,000 views. But why didn't they release a launch trailer in 2014 saying "It is done. At last, it is done." to the world? Why is Skywind so much more famous? Well, let me educate you, tribal.
  • Morroblivion was started back in 200-who cares, when people didn't yet know the power of having a social media presence, where they can easily share their work with the rest of the world without forcing the audience to visit their own neckbeard site.

  • Oblivion was a big success - for opening up a new market and putting swords in the hands of Halo players. Skyrim on the other hand was a big success in every interpretation of the term. Oblivion is peanuts compared to Skyrim, with a couple of million sales compared to Skyrim's 30+. Unless the next TES sells 50 million, Skyrim actually stands a chance to stay in normies' memories for a while, while Oblivion... well, the name speaks for itself from around 2012 or so. No one fucking plays Oblivion.

  • Skywind was announced in 2012, and - hey, this is weird - PC Gamer instantly writes an article about it, linking to their official site (then morroblivion.com) even. Skywind only started their own Youtube channel and other social media in 2014. But thinking about it, it's not that weird. Skyrim was a huge success, and the prospect of playing "that old game" in GOTY Dragon-slaying hit Skyrim must have made the news of the mod spread like wildfire, even without a social media presence. Anyway, after Skywind is announced, Morroblivion's hopes for ever gaining more than small, local recognition is forever lost. One developer could have gone on a killing spree murdering all others, and it still wouldn't have made the news.
But the important thing to take away from all of this is that Morroblivion is fully completed and out there, waiting for you to play it, right now. So if you feel like re-living the 2002 Game of the Year The Elder Scrolls™: Morrowind™ in the 2006 Game of the Year The Elder Scrolls™: Oblivion™, there is nothing stopping you. Unless you prefer re-living the 2002 Game of the Year The Elder Scrolls™: Morrowind™ in the 2011 Game of the Year The Elder Scrolls™: Skyrim™, in which case you'll have to wait for Skywind.
Speaking of Skywind, the decision by Bethesda to develop Fallout 76 and Starfield before TES VI is a blessing for them and the only thing keeping the project alive. Now they actually have a miniscule chance of releasing the mod before the next TES hits.

I wonder if the engines are perhaps related in some way.
