Pops? Father?
Isn't he your son? Or you are calling him that because synths call him that?
They call him father, I just ran with it. The irony being "father" calling you... father.

So Cornflakes has some kind of Todestrieb then? That confrontation was pretty disappointing, like many things in the game.
Babbie clearly states he was a dangerous man, kept only in check by employing him. Maybe he got out of hand, maybe he couldn't get rid of him without defying the rest of the institute or maybe babbie just wanted to give you revenge to bring you on his side.
Either way, I didn't find it disappointing. My toon saying something like "If I die, I hope I come back to kill you again" before inhaling psychojet and unloading 24 bullets into his ugly mug was pretty satisfying. Still surprised 24 headshots even left enough brain chunks to continue.

I remember reading the incident at university point was actually an accident. The institute wanted to make the commonwealth a better place, but some super reactor below UP blew up, leading to so much paranoia and mistrust that they just decided to leave those ungrateful maggots to their own devices.
So "slavery" aside, they are not evil people, being detached from the outside for that long just gave them a weird moral compass. Similar to FO2's Vault Shitty.
I haven't tried joining the institute, so I am curious if you can actually change their ways after taking over... Probably not. Although having to wipe out all other factions doesn't exactly leave much room for improving the sheeple's opinions.
I read somewhere that there's a post-game quest to exile Ayo who seems to be one of the more unethical members of the directorate from what I recall of the logs/conversations. I think one of the scientists who isn't so into the whole Synth program is actually the one who gets most upset about the SS being named successor and has the mini-revolt. I don't recall if there's any dialog to talk him down by saying you're with him on that and want to shut synths down / start rehabilitating the surface/relations with the surface.

Settler 1: "The Institute may have killed the Railroad, blew up the Bro-Blimp and garrisoned Diamond Shitty with Terminators, but hey, they said they totally want to improve relations with us!"
Settler 2: "Booo, go away!"
Settler 1: "Also, free chems for everyone."
Settler 2: "I for one, welcome our new benevolent metal ovenlords."

Madison sure gets angry if you offer her a different job and then uuuh, terminate her old employer.
I know there is a post mainquest quest regarding the
mayor of DC
but I don't know if that only happens if you don't side with the institute. Reading the Institute's computer about who is a synthspy or informant ratting out escapees was.. insteresting.

Aside from some near death in early game, I haven't been challenged much due to the T-45 Power Armor + Minigun combo dominating most early game raiders easily even without perk.
Also found this off a Legendary Radroach.

Not a bad way to spend a critical hit.
Current Lv 10
STR 1
PER 4 - Lockpicking Rank 2
END 1
CHA 1
INT 4 - Gun Nut Rank 1
AGI 1 - Gunslinger Rank 2
LUK 1

Feels like it's a much better advancement style than setting your SPECIAL at the start with 21 points and cherry picking the high end perks. Too bad some perks are just too easily gotten at low level (Gunslinger & Rifle Handling), hence combat isn't that hard to specialize in. Perhaps a future mod can change the perks a bit.

Still laughing at how the Tommy Gun has the most pitiful damage of automatics, to the point a pipe rifle would do more DPS than it.

Also, I never understood the whole armor-piercing weapon mods for some of the melee weapons you could make, and then the last upgrade is usually a bleeding mod that does more damage, which just makes me wonder on what's the point in using the armor-piercing mod? Doesn't the bleed ignore armor and boosted damage bite through the said armor as it is?

But nobody will ever have something this massive at home Curious_Tongue, stuff like this is reserved for the
fine suit wearing gentlemen working for IBM. And yes this image is amazing.

Holy feels.. Amazing image.

Kellogg is kept ageless with a combination of cybernetics and Institute Super Science. The real question then becomes, why didn't they make Shaun ageless? Or any of the other lead scientists?

They explain this in the game.. The explanation is shit.. but at least they address the glaring lapse in logic.

I'm siding with the Institute right now but have yet to hear it, so do tell.

When you first find the institute and meet Father.. Read the terminal in his office. Keep in mind the explanation is completely shit - my point was only that it's kinda there.

There was a research program going on before your son becomes the head of the institute where they were experimenting with cybernetik implants that extended the human life by replacing failing organs and shit.. I guess? Kellog is the guinea pig of this research team.

When your son takes over he decides to shut down the program because he thinks it's the wrong direction to go to achieve their goals.. whatever those are.. I stopped playing the game around this moment..

TL;DR it's a bullshit explanation that kinda makes no sense based on what I've read in this forum about the direction the institute goes as you play the game more. I gave up on this game around the time I first enter the institute.

The fact he thinks cybernetics is "not the way to go" but also thinks "let's kidnap people completely and replace them with nicey-wicey robutz" is a brilliant idea in helping relations with people shows how moronic Shaun really is. Too bad you can't even ask him why he thinks it's not the way to go, It's just Bethesda's way to assume you'll be stupid enough to just nod along.

I am more interested in how was he able to become a grown man while he was a baby at a time when you both got released from being frozen. IS that explained?

My friend at work was talking to me about this and we came up with the following explanation, I'm not sure how much the game actually supports this though:
You were unfrozen just so you could watch your spouse get shot for no reason, then Kellogg re-froze you after absconding with Shaun. As to why all the other cryogenic pods mysteriously stop working, fuck knows.
You were frozen for another 60-odd years, during which time Shaun became Father.
Nick Valentine mentions that he saw Kellogg running off with a kid right before you arrived in Diamond Shitty. Presumably, this was the robo-Shaun that you meet later - either that or it's just a massive fucking gaping plot hole in the style of Fo3.
As for how Kellogg didn't age in the 60 years between taking Shaun and you meeting him after being unfrozen... umm, synths! Cyborgs! Water Purifiers! etc

Fake (synth) shaun is basically a clue meant for you. Since real (old) shaun actually wants you to find the institute.

Kellog is half cyborg and shaun mentions that his augmentations prolong his lifespan.

So I've realized that your romanceale companions can't take no for an answer. You can tell them that you just want to remain friends, but if you ever dismiss them then approach them again they'll re-initiate the dialogue which allows you to romance them. Since I exiled all my companions to Spectacle island because there's no way of actually telling which settlement your companion's at after you've dismissed them and fuck going through each and every settlement to find them should I forget, every time I go there to get a companion MacCready walks up to me and lets me know how desperately he wants the D, every single time.

He wants your Little Lamp Post.

Need fresh meat in Little Lamplight I guess.

So does the Dog have a penis and rape you occasionally yet? Or is lovers lab slacking? :M

If you flirt with the dog and select him as a companion and sleep with him when he's traveling with you.

Rape happens.

At The Game Awards, right before announcing the game of the year, there was a voice shouting "Don't say Fallout...!" and after a brief pause while the doritto guy was smiling embarrassed, the voice from the crowd says, "I swear to God!" :)

Funny as fuck to see the public crowd actually having the balls to state their disgust over Fallout 4, I bet Todd and his followers were in a corner, slinking in the shadows.
