There was an article which said this was going to be the first FO game with a female protagonist. The previous games aren't as important as the fact that FO4 was going to have a fixed male protagonist.

Thing is this is not the first failure associated to the Bethesda brand. I mean, TESO was bad, and FO4 was bad as well. Just get ready for the thousands of "Can we trust major devs anymore?" articles. Has any sjw complained about how It's Made of Rape 3 got the award?

Witcher 3 deserves the award. It might not be the words deepest RPG, and is faaaar from perfect in execution (gah, that skill system!?), but I've never seen another game that did non-linear open world with such a tight focus on narrative consistency. The simple fact you can enter into a quest at various points (that the content is persistently spawned in the world for multiple legs of the design), combined with almost entire lack of paint-by-numbers fetch or rat hunting quests is enough to give it respect in this day and age.

I'm pretty jaded to quest design, counting my first cRPG in the Gold Box era, and I was often pleasantly surprised at the twists associated with even the smallest side-quests. Fun game, but still a shit RPG (but not as shitty as Fallout 4, sadly).

Nah. Those idiots don't care about it. They already pocketed enough cash to not care about criticism. They will just overhype their next game as always, buy off reviewers from IGN for MLGs 420 Blaze it articles and again earn enough money to produce more retarded games. Call of Duty is holding up fine, Assassin's Creed too. Morons or not, game industry is business and they are good in that regard, by making poor product and still earning a profit.


Also it feels good to be from Potatoland. I should eat bigos and be happy that great games can still win with overpriced shit backed by bribed reviewers.

Yes, the people who angrily respond to criticism on twitter and put bonuses behind metacritic scores don't care at all about metacritic or GOTY, lol.

Well, not sure if you realize this, but metacritic and GOTY shit is pretty much free money, so there's that.

But yes, I do think it's their passion, good or not, they spent like what? 7 years on this game? They're a pretty consistent team, and they've been riding high on massive critical success and universal praise pretty much since their first release. This is the lowest rated game they've ever released, and as far as I know the first that didn't win GOTY. Maybe they really are soulless money grubbers, but I like to look at it from a "hanlon's razor" kind of perspective, i think they think they're making good games and have good ideas and are passionate developers.

In case of awards, getting them isn't the point - being nominated and thus getting more publicity and free advertisement is, and they get there through the size of their marketing budget. The award itself only matters to the kids and retards that buy into the hype: the people who give out those awards don't represent some kind of Game Quality Authority, in case you haven't noticed - it's just a bunch of random dudes circle-jerking off each others' hype.
