Did they patch in a hard mode for this game yet? Heard it has laughable difficulty and lost interest. The demo was fun though.

I think the combat looks mega fun. And since it's designed by someone who worked on Dragon's Dogmer, it only has me more hype.

Apparently you get a hard mode option after you beat it. Something which I've absolutely 0 interest in doing.

Me neither. I dont want to have to bore myself with an easymode that doesnt challenge me only to play through the campaign again the way i wanted to from the beginning.

I wont ever understand why some developers dont allow for difficulty modes on NG0. It takes away player agency and limits their target audience. Very stupid decision.

This is one of the reasons why I don't get the hard-on for Square. How can you be in games development for as long as they have, and fuck up such a basic thing?

Just give the player the option to crank up the difficulty. They don't have to play that difficulty if they don't want to, but it's just there if they want to. Fucking idiots.

It's because the ones that do allow it get review bombed by retards that selected a harder difficulty than they can handle, and then complain the game is grindy or all RNG. Crystal Project is probably my favourite jrpg ever, and like half the negative reviews it has are from salty idiots that got past the early game and started dying.

That said, I agree with you- I'd have probably bounced off myself if hard difficulty weren't available from the start.

Square are popular only because they own the brand name "Final Fantasy". Imagine an alternate universe where instead of merging with Enix ten years ago they had instead sold the IP to some western or maybe Chinese developer, shored up their capital situation and then issued the surplus as a massive one-off dividend to shareholders. If they had to make games under their own steam now, without the help of that brand, they would be an absolute non-entity.

They would have gotten a lot more money for the "Final Fantasy" in 2013 than they would now. They have absolutely trashed that brand over the past decade, to the point where their licence to print money no longer even works for them: see their subpar sales even when the game is okish (FF games used to sell well even when the game was shit like with FF13). People dick on western managers but at least when things go badly either the strategy changes or the management does. Not so in Japan, where the same cliche of guys just keep driving the ship up the beach.

If I were Microsoft I would have bought SquareEnix and not Blizzard. They'd have paid far less and the problems are far easier to fix.

The thing is, I don't think it's possible for this game to be 'hard'. Not really. Every fight is an exercise in cooldown cycling. Use your powers in an efficient order and everything dies. It's very low-skill. Upping the damage numbers doesn't make much of a difference.

Maybe if you didn't use Eikon abilities at all, but then fights will take 10x longer.

Twenty years ago, man. The merger between Squaresoft and Enix was finalized in April 2003. Since then, Squaresoft had developed a whopping four entries in the numbered Final Fantasy series that aren't MMORPGs, with the latest being released seven years after the previous one.

I'm very glad the team behind this shitshow is disbanding and Yoshi-P is going back to making XIV as bland as cardboard, where he belongs. Square is healing.

Crystal project is currently 92% positive rating on steam, like why the fuck would any dev give a shit about "review bombing" by a tiny insignificant minority?

Because they're the vocal ones. It's not a good look when half your forum threads are something like "Game is shit, can't get past 2nd boss without hours of grind" or some popular reviewer (and a lot of those are barely any better than your average IGN reviewer) that could have driven thousands of sales tells everyone it's an RNG fest.

Like I said, fuck the haters and make the game better regardless of the opinions of casuals. But most devs are more worried about sales than making a good game, sadly. Especially ones with larger teams.
