Well the earlier missions might be very easy even on Classic but I doubt Firaxis would be that dumb to make even later missions so easy. They know console gamers never finish their games anyway so why even bother? Those who do want to finish the game certainly should be served with a reckless difficulty later on that will make them rage-continue.

better yet, do a let's play on impossible ironman (i was thinking of making one for the first time, but i'm lazy).
I was thinking about doing that but ran in to the same issue. Then again on ironman I'd probably be dead before the laziness really set in so maybe.

Next OXM video is up. Since it's edited maybe he's taking out the horrendous issues, but like the other 3 it looks pretty good. Xcom soldiers occasionally surviving being shot, but as shown in the previous videos they CAN die to a single plasma pistol hit (On classic difficulty), there's just a bit of luck to it.

Tom Selleck is a real solo player, taking a flank all on his own.
That's the way heroes are made.
As soon as we get back I'm giving him a mustasche.

I don't want to defend this planet from aliens anymore.

You better check yourself before you insult Tom Selleck.

This game looks great, can NOT wait.

Develpoer, eh? With tastes like that?

This is why we can't have nice things :(

Ain't nothing wrong with Tom Selleck. It's the idea that one soldier should be able to handle 5 enemies on his own in a tactical game that I find moronic. It's tactical because you use cover! And the fact that it sounds like there's a mechanic for giving him a mustache, but not for having more than 6 soldiers.

Looks great? you mean visually? Gameplay videos on the other hand shows a non-tactical game were you kill aliens by standing at the correct side of different not-to-high obstacles. I would be bored by that faster than the last call of duty (I laster three mission on that one).

I just tried the demo and it sucks big sweaty donkey balls, the gameplay is basicly you running from cover to cover and pop the aliens, sometimes you can even flank them. The armors are pretty much Gears of XCom which everyone already knew.

Wouldn't it be great for such a military structured game to have some proper chain of command?

I just did this list in autistic clairvoyance:

Code:
Fireteam: 3 Members
1 - [Lance] Corporal
2 - Private (Can be broken up into two classes; one with and one without combat experience)

Squad: 6 Members
2 Fireteams
(1 - Corporal (exists as both the CO of squad and individual fire team)
1 - Lance Corporal
4 - Privates)

Platoon: 20 Members
1 - Lieutenant
1 - Sergeant
3 Squads
(3 - Corporal
3 - Lance Corporal
12 - Privates)

Company (bases): 63 Members
1 - Major
1 - Captain
1 - Staff Sergeant
3 Platoons
(3 - Lieutenant
3 - Sergeant
9 - Corporal
9 - Lance Corporal
36 - Private)

Battalion: 192
1 - Colonel
1 - Lieutenant-Colonel
1 - Sergeant Major
3 Companies
(3 - Major
3 - Captain
3 - Staff Sergeant
9 - Lieutenant
9 - Sergeant
27 - Corporal
27 - Lance Corporal
108 - Private)

Required personnel for ranks:

CO:
Colonel - 192
Lieutenant-Colonel - 192 (Could be set lower at something like 127 (2 Companies))
Major - 63
Captain - 63 (Could be set lower at something like 41 (2 platoons))
Lieutenant - 20

NCO:
Sergeant Major - 192
Staff Sergeant - 63
Sergeant - 20
Corporal - 6
Lance Corporal - 6

The ranks are obviously not perfect and I had to scale back some from typical NATO-like structure (since you're always going to control individuals within the game). NCO ranks would be given based on experience, while CO ranks are given by the General (the user).

It would just be fun to me to actually organise my soldiers and stuff like that. Total fetishism.

No it's nearly whole game
Yeeeeeeeeah...press build is 13 gigs, whole game is 20 gigs. Check your sources before spouting nonsense.

Steam might use it as a cache
4 gigs of FMVs are certainly not "cache". Once again, you speak out of your ass.

Demo is extremely light on gameplay. Plus I could only play one of the missions and then the demo ended. Guess you have to play the tutorial all over again to try the other one.

I played through the demo 2 times and it took me less than an hour. I just wanted to check both mission locations (USA and China), turned out it doesn't matter - you get the same thing anyway.

So, the game is worse than i imagined.

First and foremost, it's an obvious console port. The UI and controls are terrihorrible. Expect big ugly TV friendly fonts, mouse lag, shitty textures, unintuitive menus, low-res cinematics etc. You perform most of your actions with the keyboard, not your mouse. Mouse is basically used for movement only. Nope, you can't just simply target your enemy with it, you can't shoot with your mouse either. Instead, there's a bunch of ugly icons, each representing an action you can perform, like fire, look around, take better cover, reload, use special ability etc. You cycle through your targets with the TAB key, and no, you cant just fucking use your mouse. Zoom level resets every time you change your soldier and it's annoying as fuck. Oh, and you can't rotate the camera freely, there are 4 preset angles, so you can easily switch through them with your fucking XBawks controller. Because the game was designed with controllers in mind.

There are only 2 missions available, the first is a railroaded, cinematic tutorial in which you're told exactly where to go and what to do. And the whole mission is 5 fucking minutes long. "You" kill a total of 3 Sectoids, and you lose 3 out of 4 of your squaddies. Everything in this mission is scripted.

After that, you get to choose the location of your base. You promote your sole remaining soldier, and you can choose to begin research on either better weapons or armor. It doesn't matter what you choose, because the demo ends after the next mission anyway.

The next mission will take you approximately 10 minutes to finish. You have full control over your actions this time, but it still doesn't matter 'cause the map is small and linear. There's total of 6 enemies here. 2 Sectoids, 2 Floaters and 2 Thin Men (in order of appearance). Once you kill everything on the map you're rewarded with a cinematic, and that's it. The demo is over.

The game comes with a DE:HR inspired soundtrack, retarded ragdoll physics and ugly graphics. But you can customize your soldiers' mustaches, so it's an instant PC GOTY. It's clearly the best game remake since this year's Syndicate.
