The keyboard and mouse controls are definitely an abortion though.

And so far there only seems to be compatability with xbawx controllers.

You know there's a reason for that right? What with it being a Microsoft product and all... with native Windows support. PC games that support controllers are always going to support the 360 controller first and foremost.

Honestly, if you're going to use a controller on PC, why would you use anything else? Unless of course you only have access to a shitty PS3 controller. As console controllers go, the 360 controller is about the best you can get for use on PC.

Anyway, you should try xpadder which allows you to use just about any D3D compatible controller with any game.
Been using a Logitech Rumblepad for a decade now, don't see a reason to buy a shitty Xbox pad just because Microsoft forcibly breaks compatibility with other controllers.

Anyway, vibmod takes care of that with little hassle. Fuck Microsoft.

Yeah, I have a rumblepad as well, but honestly, disregarding the Microsoft monika, the 360 controller is much better made and feels more comfortable to me. MS didn't break any compatibility, they simply decided to support their own controller in the OS - shock, horror.

As I suspected, the DS III demo, like TW2, does play nicer with the controller too. The demo itself is not bad for what it is... but the action kinda feels a bit slow for this type of game.

"Persona?" :/
Yes? :/

Seemed to be the appropriate word, given I'm talking strictly about your affectation and interactions on the Codex - that is to say, your persona in this context. I'm assuming, having gotten off your ass and gotten an "honest job" that you're not a pale shadow of your former self in other walks of life (although you may now occasionally feel like, or be, a lifeless husk.)

"The role that one assumes or displays in public or society; one's public image or personality, as distinguished from the inner self." - Stedman's Medical Dictionary (providing a more comprehensive single definition than any I could find online, and the crappy "three redundant definitions plus hamfisted denotations of all metaphorical uses" piece of garbage "Standard English" dictionary on my shelf.)

I know what persona means, but I've never tried cultivating one. Look, I just write the first thing that pops into my head. It's honestly kind of weird that you act like you know me (or my PERZONA) and act strangely disappointed when I drop a shitty pedophile joke.

The camera's indeed horribly restrictive. Shit's getting ridiculous, I wonder if Obsidian is doing it on purpose...
Yes.

It’s interesting, because even if you look at Dungeon Siege III, the reason we have a close-up camera, not the super close-up camera, but the more close-up camera is because people want a closer up view. And, when we started working on Dungeon Siege III it was a *huge* fight. Everyone wanted it far away, and were saying, "Why are we doing that?" And I'd say we’re doing it because when we show the game it’s going to look really cool in that mode And along with it looking good, it will play really well as well. Now it did take a while to have that actually happen, but it has and the game plays great with a closer view.

My main issue with that direction was that if we show a little character on the screen, it’s going to look too much like a PC game – and I’m not saying I hate PC games - but it’s going to look too much like a last-gen game. And that means we’re screwed. We’re just screwed. With modern games, you have to have people say how pretty the game is and it is one a real expectation. That probably sounds bad to say, but it's what even most of us expect.

I'll let you in on a secret. Originally, DS3 was going to have a camera that didn't spin. it was even more top down. What we started playing with was a camera that would be closer and to the character and further away. People want to see their character a lot, like when people are playing the game they'll switch into the flatter camera in town and switch to the higher camera when they're in combat. They do it on their own and kind of without thinking.

DS3 has a terrible camera because Feargus listens too much to focus testers (and not the publisher who actually wanted it far away). This is on par with "Alpha Protocol would have been criticized for not having a cover system so we had to put one in."

Ah, I'd like Obsidian fanboys react to that,

Bet we'll get only 2-3 comments that try and fail at excusing this kind of shit :smug:

Obsidian has gone full "next-derp". Last, best and only hope of PC RPGs...ROFL
I wonder why people just don't want my money. Don't they have families to feed? :M

I hear somebody is calling my name.

I'm a natural talent at using a 3D camera, so I never had any problem with it in any Obsidian game. :smug: The camera in DS3 is far from perfect, but I will manage. And with gamepad, it works quite well.

People are making it out to be NWN 2 bad, which I find ridiculous. The camera is ok.

Isn't it pretty established that a lot of Codexers cannot into 3d cameras?

No, camera in NWN2 was OK. You could pull it back and it could not turn with your character. Good times.
This is nothing like that.

Check options. Turn off auto-rotating camera.

You don't really need to cultivate a persona, it's the means and end of social interaction in any given context... I'm not accusing you of creating a fictional personality. I very deliberately wrote 'persona' in the interest of NOT acting like I know you.

However I am disappointed when you make lazy, stretched jokes, because you're usually funny. Also: far more bothered by getting such a shitty reception to using a precise and accurate word on the Codex.

Fucking :decline:

I just tried the game with a gamepad. Yep, it is a console game, because it is so much better with a controller than with k+m. I like the game even more now. Combat is more fun, and the camera is also OK this way.

The engine is great and the game looks neat but bland, right up to a huge-cleavage'd bimbo with freckles and a foreign accent. Armor comes with nipples too, for Anjali. Groan-inducing stuff.
Not sure if serious. That's pure :incline:

Yes, this has convinced me to try the demo. Will report on boob findings later.

Played the demo for 10 minutes then yawned and uninstalled. I think "uninspired" captures it best.

The graphics are pretty bland but they tried to cover up the poor textures with flashy particle effects. Didn't work.

Gameplay is basic click and kill stuff. You only use one button so blocking/combos isn't possible. Inventory system/character sheet is...different, but in a bad way. Feels too clunky.

The loot system IS annoying so the complaints in this thread are justified.

Story as presented in the cutscenes felt bland and uninspired. They tried to add obsidian style drama, but it didn't work and I'm not sure that fits into a game meant to be pure hack and slash fun.

I actually enjoyed Dungeon siege 2 for what it was. This game doesnt know what it is, and that's the problem.

While you can stop the camera from rotating you can't lock it in place and prevent it from zooming in at times which pretty much defeats the purpose of stopping the rotating.

Seriously? No, really, wtf, seriously?? Couldn't they make different camera modes at least? Good God.

Played both characters, they're badly balanced. With Lucas i died atleast once in almost every fight, with Anjali(human form) I could clear entire groups with maybe one or two attacks.

The camera wasnt bad, only wish you could angle it to see forward more, the controls however were pretty bad, trying to pick up some coins right next to you you had to run around in a small circle to get it, no strafe! Also no remapping keys, maybe in retail version.

Technically, both are correct, though "is" is more commonly used when referring to a group.

The army is on the move.

vs.

The army are on the move.

The team is ready.
