-Fog of war on the map and minimalist UI = exploration/navigation has at least some degree of relevance and isn't completely braindead as is the modern standard.
-Combat while not amazing has slightly more nuance, skill demand, and control than most shitty modern AAA where Batman and God of War is the standard.
-Platforming while not amazing has slightly more nuance, skill demand, and control than most shitty modern AAA where Ass Creed and Uncharted is the standard.
-Overall difficulty is like a 4/10. Again, better than most mass market slop that are completely braindead for mediocre simpletons.
-It's open world, and while it is not great open world design, it's better than completely worthless on rails static level design, as well as better than most AAA world design. You can note this in its scale for example - it's big, but not absurdly big like GTAV and the like. Games nowadays are either shitty needlessly huge open world or completely on rails, with almost no in between. Back in the day most games were of this in-between zone in varying degrees. And that was the sweet spot. Anyways, to be more specific GoT world design is slightly above simply for scaling back a bit in size (= less filler or dead space in the design though there is still plenty of both), the inclusion of fog of war, there's a fair amount of verticality, it hides some secrets that while not at all needed past a certain point, at least aren't all marked on the map, there's a decent variety to it e.g marshland, mountainous terrain, arctic area, prairies, and I guess some of the shrines are pretty cool. It certainly could have been better, but not all bad.
-Gameplay aside, there isn't too much woke shit in the writing. Very little.
When the AAA standard is completely braindead and automated movie game wokefests, this shit passes with a bronze medal. It's not a great game, but the majority of AAA since around 2006 just really, really fucking suck to the point that this slightly above mediocrity is a breath of fresh air. Despite this, I do not recommend the game unless you haven't touched a game with high production budget in a while and want a change of pace, and also aren't paying 80 or whatever bucks for it (I didn't spend a penny). There are simply far more deserving games out there that I KNOW you haven't yet played. Consoles, PC, handhelds. Big budget, mid-range, indie. Mods. Homebrew.
