Are you planning to release on steam?

:nocountryforshitposters:

I've spoken to Square-Enix staff and they will be mentioning GMDX on the facebook/Twitter social media garbage without signing anything over to them or steam-exclusivity nonsense. If people want to buy the steam version to play GMDX, it's up to them. GoG version too. Or they can just use the version they likely already own of course.

This is sort of related to Steam but really a rant about the availability and convenience of various places to discuss Deus Ex or GMDX. For example, if someone wants to ask a quick question, make a comment, even just say that this is great, there is no quick and easy way to do it anywhere, comparable to what a Steam release would provide.

Forum threads don't work that well, since they're usually on random forums that people first have to sign up for if they don't have an account. General threads on imageboards even though they have practically no barrier to entry don't work well either unless your game/mod is already massively popular, since they require a huge amount of regular posters to keep alive (or you and/or your astroturfing team doing it). Official mod page or your own site/blog suffers from the same issues as forums, someone either has to sign up for a moddb account, or if you allow anonymous comments on your blog, post there (and possibly have no one even react to it in any way). And if you make a forum on your own website, there's the account issue again and it's probably going to have so few posts that it will have a negative effect on anyone who views it.

The advantage of Steam here is an enormous number of people who already have Steam account, and the ease of simply posting in a specific game/mod's discussion section (although now that I looked, Revision doesn't have its own separate discussion section, only Deus Ex has it!). I don't know how it would even be possible to replicate this on your own.

Auldale, near the great river
Revision had a discussion section of its own last I checked, but I also saw it was dying out once the hype had settled down. There's a Steam thread for this mod on Steam already, but problem is the Deus Ex boards on Steam themselves are low activity places.

Really, the best bet is just to hope game news websites report on the mod's release.

Apologies for the delay. Quality is important.

No worries. Take all the time you want, bro!
We are all with you. What you've done for this game hardly any one does out of so much love and right intent to give the community something more special.
Only someone who's stupid would complain about your hard work and dedication gone into making this mod, which btw is 1000x times better than the overrated garbage called Revision Mod.
This is a fact. GMDX > Revision. Not disputable, and so nobody should bother quoting me giving your arguments defending that Revision bullshit.
God! I hate that Tevision shit.
If GMDX wouldn't have existed I would have literally given up hope that their good people in this modding community who are willing to turn the greatest game into a masterpiece of its own by pushing for improvements which the original developers didn't capitalize on its potential as it should by giving it a new life and years worth of replayability.

I'm willing to wait for the next masterpiece version and going to play this Christmas along side Underrail.
So much fun!!!
I'm also trying my best to advertise on Facebook and Twitter as much as I could and hopefully many people would download this mod.

Great mod. Voted for the MOTY as well!
Keep it up, bro!!!

Thanks for the support again, Tabay! I don't know what's more fanatical, the insane amount of work I've put into this or that one post :D
Thanks for spreading the word, it is very much appreciated.

zeitgeist: Unless you're talking about Steam Workshop support which I don't believe DX has, a steam release implies going through the corporate hurdles that Revision did (so a further delay), signing over control of aspects of my work to SE such as the freedom for the mod to be playable on all platforms of course, dealing with the onslaught of DRM haters, and generally setting a bad precedent for other modders and mod players. There's not a chance I'm doing that.
Another thing is Square-Enix would probably turn me down even if I did want to. Somehow a portion of Deus Ex fans got it into their heads that Revision was a god damn DX remake to the scale of Black Mesa than merely a mod that changes levels & the soundtrack, and a lot of idiotic hype grew from this misconception. This was a fine business opportunity for Square-Enix. To arrange that steam release they have to assign and pay a number of drones, but the payoff is in seeing the numbers behind a potential DX remake of their own as well as the sales from the Steam-exclusive release, plus general hype surrounding the franchise. GMDX isn't marketable like Revision was because GMDX's focus is more in gameplay & game design progression than short sighted graphic whoring when graphics whores are the biggest demographic by far. However, it still could be reaching a much wider audience than it currently is.

Really, the best bet is just to hope game news websites report on the mod's release.

...and for people to spread the word to forums and such. :D

I wouldn't say the Revision team aren't good people...there's many things you could say about the mod itself plus the DRM sellout but the people behind it believed to be doing good for DX.

Loved to see the new shopping options in action, CyberP/Ash. They fit in brilliant - money gets more purpose and the option to lockpick them is in the same vein of providing multiple paths to complete goals as in the rest of the game.

To be honest I don't really like the way you bought equipment from NPC's in the original game. From what I remember, sometimes you are "rewarded" for completing tasks by gaining access to their store (Wow, thanks! I gain the privilege to give you money?), sometimes the descriptions for items were vague, and the dialogue-based purchasing system is a little awkward.

Don't forget to spread the word and vote it for MOTY. Of course many still haven't played it yet, but you can quite clearly see a large portion of the incline in action through these videos.

Nice. I didn't even write to that outlet. I still need to pitch to many others at that, but if they're picking up on it themselves that saves precious time.

I'm unsure if I should bother with a release trailer. These videos get the message across more than any trailer could, but they aren't bite size enough cumulatively.

You should write to Rock Paper Shotgun, those guys wrote a lot of articles about the game, especially now when it turned 15 yrs. They had 100 comments on their Revision article. You should send them a notice now and another one at launch. They even have an article about your previous version there

I wrote to them last month. I didn't get a reply, so I assume they are either waiting for release or are not interested.
