What I can tell you about D is that it *should* take care of one of the frustrations I personally still had with DKS i.e. getting the dragon thing really right. Given the scope of DKS we never could focus sufficient development resources on that, and to avoid that from happening with D we started pre-production by focussing completely on the dragon thing. In my mind, there still hasn't been a game that got the feeling of being a powerful beast of destruction right (and fun), and that's going to be one of the core ambitions with D. Should it turn out that it doesn't work, it won't be for lack of trying ;\)
Seems Sven read too many DraQ posts. However, it would be cool if there was a real dragon character system behind your dragon form.

Yeah, Larian is my new favorite developer. (not that I really had an old one).

Not just because of the games, but their interactivity with the community is refreshing also. I remember a couple of months ago, in a thread on thier forums discussing possible future games/features, I posted an inoccuous comment about 'streamlining'/'dumbing down'. To my surprise I got a reply from Lars himself that said... "Don't worry, we're accutely aware of the current trends of so called streamlining in modern games (especially RPG's) and have no intentions of following them" (or words to that effect) .

Just finished EG. Some thoughts.

- Ending twist was nice, didn't see that coming
- This whole fortress thing was tiresome, didn't enjoy them and after my first fortress I was powerful enough to just hack my way through them
- Statue puzzle was nice, took me a while
- FoV beginning with terminator easter egg was hilarious
- There seemed to be a bug during hall of echoes encounter with Laiken. I would be one shotted for almost 1k damage. Didn't even notice the source of the damage because I would die instantly. Finally my creature took the hit.
- Final battle was a joke. Two weapons with final damage and magic damage enchantments and I was doing well over 1k damage a hit with 2k crits and healing for 300-500. Thats almost all of my hp.
- Too much loot by the end of the game.
- Last time I posted bleed damage calculations it seems it was for vanilla EG 1.0 Now I can't go below 4 seconds so the skill while still nice, is nothing really great.
- How much time will FoV take ? I usually try to complete all the quests I find and visit every place.

I suspect I should think about giving Div2 a try, but fuck, I tried the demo, and the generic beginning made me drop it after 15 minutes. I fucking hate generic beginnings. HATE.

That's how I dropped it the first time. Big fucking mistake.

There is no such thing as too many of my posts :smug:*.

However, it would be cool if there was a real dragon character system behind your dragon form.
Who in their right mind would deny that?

For me the absolute low point was the first goblin tribe (the one with Hjalmar). I also dropped the game there, but returned to it rather quickly and surprise! - right after I was permitted further into the valley after the ghost part of the MQ it all went epically fun. :D

About a year ago you guys said this game suck(ed) and now you all are cumming over it. Nevertheless this thread has made me got the game though, as I was extremely fond of DD1 myself.

And yeah, the game is very nice indeed. While I find it resemble more like Two Worlds rather than actual DD, I find it superior in regards of being a 3rd person actiony RPG. At first I almost moaned at how many actions the game has - almost claim it a popamole - but then I realized, even when exploring in a dungeon, there are 40% of the time spent on conversations or puzzle solving.

The world, while not as big or sandboxy as Two Worlds or TES, it is packed full with contents and hidden secrets to explore and is never dull to wander around. Without referring to the wiki I would miss alot of the quests and items, and even after referring to it I've already missed two pieces of set items.

The dialogue is quite fresh too, it doesn't use stupid pretentious old English from Two Worlds and doesn't take itself too seriously, lots of humor everywhere, but still managed to make me feel attached to the story and characters.

What I don't really buy is the strange loot system (Completely randomized chests everytime you open it?) and the crazily randomized item attritubes (seems too dull and too whacky even compared to Diablo), and the lack of magic (there's like only 3 to 4 serious mage attack spells). Also, while you guys claim the skill system is good, I find it rather blah, because there's no restriction at learning different skills at all, you you can take top tier warrior or ranger skills even though you've invested none in those classes before. But maybe that's what the game supposed to work though, as a Dragon Slayer is more or less a Witcher - a multiclassed figher/mage/rogue who can fight and fire and do acrobatics equally fine.

BTW, does it hurt that I miss out set items (I've missed the chance to pick up at least 1 piece of them, and the area is sealed off forever it seems)? Being a perfectionist I just don't feel well missing stuff out.

Same here, dropped the Ego Draconis demo shortly after entering the broken valley village, only gave DKS another shot when a codexer who didn't like diablo said he enjoyed the game and that it got much better later on.

Not as enthusiastic about it as the rest seem to be, it's pretty heavy on the mindless combat and there's not much roleplaying content before the expansion, still I liked it and the humor alone makes it worth a shot.

Don't give up before you meet a dragon knight.

Weird, I put down the game a few days ago and came back to play it tonight. Much to my dismay, I now have no savegames left. This happen to anyone else or did I accidentally delete half my game files while drunk or something?

Agreed. I already posted a couple of times how I tried ED not long after it first came out, got to the initial stages of BV (just a few hours in) and droped it never to return (till DKS). To a long time RPG gamer, it definately doesn't make a good first impression.

I should've rememberd how DD started pretty slow, then that long boring first dungeon - before it really picked up as well.

Speaking of DD, I just picked up the version on gog with the new patch (1.005a) just to check it out - now I'm playing the fucking thing! I'll never finish DKS at this rate!! :x

I am kinda regretting not picking this up during the Steam winter sale now. Hope it shows up again. All this brolove sounds tempting.

You wouldn't happen to have uninstalled a pre-January 2011 version of the DKS demo recently? It uses the same folder for saves as the full game and nukes it without asking.

I kind of regretted that, too, but I'd say it was still a pretty good deal at €40 for the ED+FoV package. Plus, Larian can probably use all the support they can get and

Anyone played this through as a pure warrior on nightmare?

Almost finished it as a mage, after having thoroughly enjoyed it (another good Codex recommendation), I'm thinking of playing it again with a totally different playstyle, but I fail to see how a warrior can survive amongst big groups of mobs.

Any tips?

ROFL, that's exactly what I did. Bye bye to my level 30 character. :)

No matter, game was getting boring anyhow, combining magic missile with fireball raped the fuck out of everything. Maybe I'll restart as a plain warrior this time.

Whirlwind knocks people back when they crowd you and Rush Attack can get you in and out of danger fairly easily. Life Leech and Regeneration are good for surviving as well. Using your creature as a distraction helps as does training enemies through choke points. Gotta use a lot of the jump dodging and keep in mind that jump dodging sideways is much more effective than jumping backwards.

The Rush Attack was probably the center of my strategy as a warrior. It recharges quickly, is obviously great for mobility, and at 15 hits for 4x damage.

Tips? What for? Isn't the part, where you are trying to find/learn stuff and you are kicked into balls by difficulty, the best part?

I actually comprehend and agree. Do not diminish the joy of powergaming and experiment for yourself. Especially in the game that allows you to respec.

It's funny for us, ubermensches of RPGs, but the bigger picture is quite sad.

Instead of connecting the dots:
-guy's name is Noryfundus
-not in the village but near bandit camp
-too-good-to-be-true-stuff

OR mind reading him, he fell for it like a... well, like a consolefag and is angry about the game and the devs that something like this happened.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Later, in the temple of doom in bandit's camp he kept getting poisoned and instead of figuring out why he just blamed it on the game and assumed it's a bug.

Always mind-read the merchants. Even if they're not cheating you, it'll typically give you better prices/a hint towards some treasure/a quest. But of course someone like him probably balks at 'losing' XP.
