Thumbs up GOG with the Stalker release!

Personally I don't understand why this game is not one of Codex all time heroes. For me it's not only a proper RPG, it's the best RPG of the decline era period.

Slow. The. Fuck. Down.
It's respectable game but calling it RPG in other section than "Weapons & Accesories" is just silly.

Now the question is - how can we downgrade version in this case.
You may ask "Why?". Well, there is some mods that require earlier versions.

For example - Zone of Alienation. Looks phenomenal, marvelous gameplay and gunfight changes and tweaks turn it into different, great game.
And it require SoC 1.005.
People with metal boxes have easy road, steamed people need some trick and magic. And GOG?

edit: it's 1.006 but IIRC most mods should work with that version.

Far from wanting to start a "What is RPG? Go!" derail of this thread, I'd just repeat that Stalker is a RPG for me, which is as good a definition and a justification as any other. :smug:

It's not an RPG* but I love the game. And I think it does get some love on the 'dex, there are several STALKER threads (and DraQ and I have circlejerked about it quite a bit in a couple of threads), the only unconditional hater is I think skyway, which is par for the course.

I do find it funny that CS is priced cheaper than the others, and TBH at that price it is worth it even though it's the weakest game in the series.

* for me ;)

Stalker's got combat and a meaningful NPC interaction, so it's not just an adventure game or an action game, but true, it hasn't got a character development system. So yeah, it's probably not an RPG as understood by most people but it just feels so focused and monocled and PC-ish that it gets a green card from me.

I think, ultimately, the RPG definition is all about the overal feel of a game even more than the features. For instance you got games like Diablo 3 or Torchlight that formally check all the proper boxes but in the end feel like ordinary action games.

Btw I know CS is widely considered the weakest part but I simply think back on it more often and more fondly than the SoC or CoP. No idea why though.

The Stalker series are better RPGs than the modern Fallouts, both from a design, mechanics and gameplay standpoint and they are up to par with the System Shock series which since it doesn't have XP or cool perks are not considered RPG either
In the end the games are fucking good and the myriad of mods make the games feel so fresh
If you want and updated vanilla experience, moody horror survial game or a total reinvension of the game there are more than enough cool mods like Autum Aurora, Misery, Zone of Alineation or the Complete series
Plus $15 for all 3 is a steal

I tried Misery (2.1 IIRC) and it was too difficult for me. That and it does this weird thing with weapon condition where if you examine a weapon you'll see a bar but without the exact percentage while all those little repair tools require a weapon to be at a certain percentage before it can be repaired so it's difficult to tell just at what condition the weapon is in, if you get my drift.

Try the 1.0 version with the patch 2 that is still on the site, it is nmuch morestraightfoward and without the "survival" bs
Also check out the Stalker thread right here on the Codex for my own personal fixes for the FOV and prices and you are set for the very best Stalker experience

GOG added FLAC version of more than 30 soundtracks:

Heroes of Might and Magic II

I'm guessing, since GOG has the "Gold" version of HOMM2, that the soundtrack version included is the one from the add-on. The Price of Loyalty add-on had different music for the town screens. It would be awesome if both were included. Can anyone give more info on this?

Earth 2160 was one of the first games with the next gen DRM and you had to register it so a potato server would unlock it.
I played it a few times when it was released and it looked cool, 3D and third person camera and all that shit but cant remember much of it besides headaches with the DRM. I got the steam version but im not sure if its playable now if they killed the server.
GoG version should work tho :)

JudasIscariot any chance of having the original HOMM2 (non-Gold, without expansion) also available for download for those who bought HOMM2? Disclaimer: I have the original CDs so I won't be getting it, but Gold (and PoL) changes the music tracks for the towns, and IMO the originals are a hell of a lot better, and it would be nice to have the option to play the original campaigns with the original music.
