not all copy protection is drm, while all drm is also copy protection.

I agree. Copy right protection exists
beyond the digital world.

that's because they aren't.

I disagree. I find that it is as much as the old "Insert your CD to play".
You have yo define DRM very narrowly to exclude cd-keys as a form of DRM.
In my eye DRM is when you only have right to install and play the game on 1 computer or 1 user at a time. With CD keys, you can install it on any number of PC-s, if you lend the game to your friends.

But you cant play together online or through lan, can you? And thats a very narrow definition. By those lines, steam would not be drm.
DRM is one thing, the fact that you can circumvent it is another.

Cd-keys are DRM i can live with. I still have them all. Nwn is fadding away, but i wrote it down in "Notes" page of the manual before it faded completely.

What the fuck? I 've just seen the preorder on Age of Wonders 3. 40 Euros, or 55 dollars? For a fucking PC game? This is really a screw over. So they are going the steam way. Buying games on disc is 2/3 of the price, why would I buy anything full priced on Steam, and (after this) on GOG?

I thought new PC games were generally $50 - $60 anyways, at least retail.

I don't think I had to put CD keys into NWN or NWN2 to play offline. Using a key for multiplayer is hardly DRM, nor is multiplayer a focus of GOG to begin with.

Heh. I was looking for the graphic for the partisan unit from Civ2, but it wasn't turning up on Google, so I had to settle for the the "berzerker" from some scenario. (Notice also the archdemon that looks like a superhero and clay spirit that appears to be an early Prosper work.) Figured that anyone in a position to get the reference would recognize it anyway despite being a bit recolored.

Edit: The original:

I don't get all the butthurt. 55$ is just the price for the simpletons with the patience of a four year old who must have all that is new and shiny right now. Those of us who have evolved beyond the instant gratification mindset wait until the game is properly patched and is at a 60-80% sale.

The beginning messes up. There are no 1:1 conversion from dollar to euro.

That was referring to the new games for which regional pricing was introduced in the first place (e.g., Age of Wonders 3, which is $39.99 in the US vs. €39.99 in most of Europe); it mentions classic games separately later on.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
I just can't stop to love the :outrage: European masses shitting on publishers and distributors for the regional pricing instead of their :retarded: bureaucracy and VAT laws.

And yes, I know I sound like the Commissar but fuck it, for once.:troll:

Oh yes thats right, drm is concerning only singleplayer, i forgot that memo.
I do agree that its irrelevant concerning gog's stance on drm-free games.

What? I mean WHAT? Is this what it came to? Waiting for a 80% sale is the way of buying a video game? I'm sorry, but if a game comes out which I'm interested in, I want to buy it and play it as soon as possible, not after 1 year. And I want to buy it on a fair price.

You must be one of those people who became conditioned to buy every game for 5 dollar. This is what the constant steam sales did with the market. Who would have thought that the preaching about constant sales devaluing videogames is true?

Problem is that Europe gets more expensive games, even if you add VAT to the US price.

Well, if you don't like the price, you wait instead of whine.
If you need instant access to a Beta version that is your choice.
I learnt long before there even was a thing called Steam that if I waited some months the game would be properly patched and sold at a reduced price. Why pay full price for unfinished products?

No debacle like this without a Hitler reaction video.

I don't want to say too much about this topic but the letter from our managing director states that what we're planing on doing with the older games is to convert the prices into the local currency (not $1 = 1 Euro) so that people don't get hit with currency exchange fees from their bank or other financial institutions. Please read http://af.gog.com/forum/general/letter_from_the_md_about_regional_pricing/page1?as=1649904300 and if you want staff responses in that thread then read http://af.gog.com/forum/general/letter_from_the_md_about_regional_pricing?staff=yes&as=1649904300 . Again, I really should not be getting into this topic but I wanted to make something clear.

Most people consider multiplayer inherently limited, which is the whole thing people are trying to avoid with singleplayer, so the DRM debate doesn't really translate well to multiplayer. I get the whole unrestricted servers versus account argument, don't get me wrong.

That's the equivalent of asking why wait for December/January sales to buy electronics when you can just take them from the store.
I'm not saying I always had this mentality, but I find $5-$15 games to be a very good value for the entertainment they provide and at least the developers can get something at a price they find acceptable.

Night Dive Studios posted on their Facebook page
One of these titles should be seeing the light of day pretty soon
http://www.pcgamer.com/gallery/the-weirdest-pc-games-of-all-time/eye_blood_games_10/

The list of mentioned games:
Harvester
Total Distortion
The Zoo Race
Plumbers Don't Wear Ties
Vangers
Tongue of the Fatman
GAG: The Impotent Mystery
Toilet Tycoon
Limbo of the Lost
Zeno Clash
E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy.
Bloodwings: Pumpkinhead's Revenge
Pathologic
Barkley: Shut up and Jam: Gaiden.
Wrecked

Definitely not EYE, because it's on HL2 engine, like VtM: Bloodlines so it's Steam only.
