Whaaaaaaat?
It's old but the funny thing is they're still putting out new content for the iOS... as in currently. If anything I'd just grab the mobile version.
Omerta "complete" is on sale at -80%, but given the abysmal rating, I doubt it's worth even that.
Did anyone play it with the DLCs and latest patches? Did they help at all?
tl;dr This game is not very good.
Business Sim part is very lite. You find yourself repeating pretty much the exact same sequence of buildings for every scenario. No rival gang attacks beyond scripted missions as well. Independent businesses exist on the map but they serve only as a way to get quick cash or as a target for takeover. Police investigations are a pushover to bribe away with the thousands of $$$ that'll be pouring into your account soon enough.
In the tactical battles, rather than a common pool of TUs or even the recent Xcom remake's two-action system you have separate pools for movement and action. Characters have a decent amount of stats on paper and each weapon has its ups and downs. Sounds fine in theory but the implementation is ****ed. Separation of movement and action points effectively renders grenades (a shockingly common skill) useless. Weapons are imbalanced with a high AP + Pistol combination being godly when supported by Tommy Guns with their decent range and AoE. Revolvers have way too random a damage range, cost far too much AP and generally serve as a much shittier and short ranged alternative to tommy guns. Rifles cost far too much AP to be worth while and the separation of AP and Movement points renders the ability to mark an area for a large increase in hit% moot.
Melee weapons are quite frankly, useless. The knife and bat can deal heavy damage in the right siutations but usually you're much better off just sticking to 4 people with guns rather than throwing in one melee of dubious value in your team. When two tommy gunners can spray lead all over the place, why bother with any sort of debuff based strategy ? The game isn't all that difficult anyway. The only real hard fight being the final one, which has everything to do with bloated HP enemies and numbers rather than any sort of intelligent encounter or map design.
What really irks me personally is how the game never really makes you feel like a big Don. With a party limit of your character + 5 other gangsters from a larger pool - all of whom are devoid of any personality - you always feel like a street thug and his posse. The lack of micromanagement of your goons and businesses may have simplified the game but they also have the effect of killing any of the appeal that being an influential gang leader in the prohibition era would have.
post count +1
You never know whether they ruin the game during that attempt, though. The PC game is good. Then again, I always had a soft spot for anything Glorantha.I was going to pick up King of Dragon Pass but I read the developer's blog where they state they've essentially abandoned the PC version but made a ton of new content and improvements for the iOS version. Absurd.
Meh. This is one of the games that runs fine on my old netbook that gets even bogged down by Terraria (to be fair that's probably due to all those light sources I inflict on the underworld), and I'm better off without Steam or pretty much anything that runs in the background on that one.I would buy the superior Steam version.
I won't condemn the guy, they've just probably noticed that it is good for business. It was around a month before their first 'huge % off' sale. :D How can one not think that all marketing people areevillying bastards.
I'm not condemning anyone. If they make more profit by offering me (or anyone else) cheaper stuff, kudos to them. I just though it was funny how GOG guy criticized the massive % off steam sales, only for them to adapt the same thing soon after.
