Literally only 2 improvements can be made to Gothic:

1. Textures. They did decently on that but mods already exist that can make Gothic look amazing.

2. C&C. Scrap the linear, bland story you're railroaded into and make faction choice actually matter. Go for old camp? Barrier stays up, see if you can overthrow the Barons and become one yourself. New camp? Blow up the barrier with the ore tactic. Swamp camp? You can keep the sleeper here in some way. If they had balls they'd keep the original game, update the textures, and do this. Fucks with Gothic 2 but who cares, this is remake, make it an alternative timeline.

I think it's very difficult to bring an old game's aesthetic into modern visuals and not lose some of the original vibe, especially because old graphics are so lacking in detail that most people perceive them very subjectively. This remake looks on the mark, IMO. A lot of remakes come across as soulless affairs where the new team does not have the creative vision of the original, but I don't see that here. It still looks like a grungy, low fantasy world to me with extra polygons, that's all. Could so easily be some "re-envisioned' affair completely divorced from the standard.

Imma repeat what I asked earlier: there are speculations that a demo might be available at the coming German Gamescom so if someone can confirm this, that would be great thanks.

Here's the corresponding THQ nordic announcement stating that it will be playable at gamescom.

THQ Nordic's playable games at gamescom 2024, Hall 7.1, Booth A11/B10
- Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed
- Gothic Remake
- Titan Quest II
- _ _ _ _ _ _ (aka "unannounced game #1")
- _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (yup, that's five words & 23 letters aka "unannounced game #2")

Of course, if this turns out to be the original demo...

Dunno, have you seen the Bloodfly design? It looks like a demon from the depths of Hell, but in the original it was just a huge fly. Or scavengers? They were supposed to be looking like a non-avian birds, but in the remake they look more like a pokemon Marowak.

By the way, in the trailer the Nameless Hero was climbing on the wall. How is he doing that? Does he have any kind of a superpowers now, like a Spiderman?

I fear that this probably means that there is no free climbing, instead we are going to have designated shitting streetsclimbing walls. Unless they just added this to supplement classic climbing mechanics but who knows.

I want Orc City to be true underground metropolis like in OG design documents and for Sleeper's Madness to appear in later chapters.
It would be immensely cool if they brought over some of the content from the scrapped expansion but we both know that is not happening.

Splendid, we can go back to shitposting and bickering, waiting for new information after Germanfags test the demo at the event and report. Cya all at the end of August :salute:

Currently, the greatest horror game ever made (and therefore one of the greatest games) is a remake
remasters
Completely valid if said game is difficult to get running on recent hardware
"Fan Fixes" aren't an excuse, as not all old games have them and even among the ones that do have them they rarely work perfectly and even fewer are straightforward to find and install
Remasters can also add beneficial QoL features - like the cool new levels in the Quake remaster ; the photo mode for Tomb Raider ; the controller compatibility in the classic Gothic remaster for the Switch (a feature that was intended for Gothic to have but never got implemented)
They also renew awareness for these games - sometimes even bring games back from abadonnware (like the case of Blade of Darkness)
Finally an even more valid reason is when said remaster is to bring an exclusive Console game to PC
reimaginings
By definition they don't replace the originals so there's much less problems for these to be made than remakes
At worst the devs completely miss the point of the original and you have a bad game to laugh at and learn from their mistakes
At best you get a genuinely interesting new experience that's also fresh spin on a classic - like it was the case of REmake 2, which is an excellent horror game

The outcome when a remake is successful: more remakes. Thank you for saving the world of video games, retard.
Remakes are being done because the vydia market is crashing and remakes are the safest financial option for single-player games
You want to save the "world of video games"? Fix the economy

Has there ever been a remake that was actually more or less better than the original game?
Resident_Evil_Remake-_North-american_cover.jpg.jpg

The best argument I've heard is for resident evil but to me it's so backwards in tone from the original that it might as well be a different game.
Are you Ash alt account?
REmake is objectively superior in every regard to the original
The only reason to play RE over REmake, is historical curiosity

Its different tonally
It's the tone they were aiming for with the original, but couldn't achieve 1996

DJOGamer PT sorry buddy, but I'm currently not accepting any appeals.

If you like remakes then you are sentenced to indefinite retardation. Please send in another application next year and we will be happy to write up another rejection letter for you.

Regards,

Never play any REmake. It's not better in every way. Don't fall for the lies spread on the internet. Sorry DJO.
