Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Ah, Hedon was extensively discussed in Doom threads (because the first versions of the first chapter are free to download for mods). Hedon needs a disclaimer, if it was a free Doom mod it would be phenomenal, if it was free. It's a clear labour of love and it wears its inspirations openly, even if enemy variety never rises above the typical Doom mod setup (you'll recognize almost everything and no enemy is "creative").

Performance issues are real on lower-end systems and are from a sometimes chaotic map design, typical modder stuff.

I'd wholeheartedly suggest to try the free version before buying, because it's not a typical "old school shooter" either. I'd call it slower and methodical, more inspired by Marathon than baseline Doom at times.

Also the dev is a complete degenerate and has a thing for muscular anime women with dicks, but this is the Internet I guess

I personally like it more than Dusk (that purposefully frontloads itself with the worst levels right at the beginning) and Ion Maiden (that despite being pretty as fuck has trash combat). My opinions, tho.

Play Ashes 2063 instead. It's the superior Build game on Doom engine anyway.

Is the Zan dev guy the same guy that makes tons of futa images with that character?

Most of the Hedon porn images seem to come from some degenerate Russian that has a Patreon under the name Dmitrys. The Zan dude seems to have a separate patreon.

Hedon is a pretty fun game.
I am not sure what kind of "coomer" content those ignorant zoomers (or senile boomers) are talking about.
I easily get stable 180 fps with 2k resolution and maximum particles/texture filtering with no problem.

Hey, wait a second! I know this character from porn. "She" has a giant cock! So what came first? The character or the game?
The porn came first, I told you.

Yes kek. Despite the cocklust of the dev the game is great though. I think people are making too big of a deal of the origins of the character.

Best ~6 EUR I've spend in a long time.

Don't flinch back due to the blue Orc tits; this game is a true labour of love with great level design, puzzling, pacing and atmosphere. A wild mix of Doom, Unreal and Hexen and it all works astonishingly well. Second best retro "shooter" after DUSK.

The dev's issues aside, the game just wasn't fun. Mediocre adventure sections combined with Painkiller-like combat arenas isn't a winning combination. Its a step up from something like Isle of the Dead, but that's just because the engine isn't a pile of crap.

Now that I have played and it is super impressive. That's one I'd even cough up some money for if the dude went crazy with it and put together a little campaign and maybe a few points the story could diverge a little. Sure as hell don't have to go full RPG (Or even full Deus Ex) but some light Strife-like shit would be cool. And even though the orc tits in Hedon feel pandering (Even if it's also pandering to the developer), I'll tell you what wouldn't be pandering in Ashes. Tasteful rape. :obviously:

Ashes is godlike indeed.
This tho, I've been aware of it for years. I fear I can't go over the atrocious DeviantArt character designs.

Hedon is great but like the games that inspired it (ie. Hexen series), it isn't a game everyone will like. For me the biggest positive of the game is its level design which has you looking under every rock and pixel for stuff to progress that heavily remind me of Hexen/Hexen 2. The sexy thicc half orc MC is a nice cherry on top but IMO the main feature is the levels.

Also i like the world's style, it feels more "otherworldly" than your typical fantasy.

It doesn't really have more arena's than doom or quake. Sometimes you'll get an arena at the end of a big ass level, but majority of combat doesn't take place in the arenas...

Are these performance issues in paid version? Guess that Zan didn't made proper configuration in the GZDoom and set everything on max, without reading.
You should NOT do that, some options in GZDoom are here to kill frames on ANY PC available on the market. Why? No idea, maybe they're borderline experimental and GZDoom creator have hope that people have some restraint.
And with right setting there will be barely any difference in visuals but performance wise - it would be night and day.

About porn... well, we had chainmail bikini back then for fun. These days we have, uhm, this? Because for some reason things these days must be total opposition, to the point it became absurd. Nothing is for fun anymore these days...

Still - I could play this game with pleasure because devs tried to make decent game with visible inspirations here and there, unlike modern devs who cater to the charts and labels.

You should probably mention that the dev posted on Steam forums that: "It's going to be a free update over the main game + base price increase from 9.99$ to 16.99$"

the game is currently on sale so if anyone was looking to grab this they should probably do it now before the price goes up

Finally tried the demo, gave a decent impression. Does commit the unfortunately really common sin of boring-ass enemies (They do gib nicely, but dull sprites and boring voices/grunts don't do them any favors) and since everything's underground (I guess?) you get sorta dull lighting on everything. Didn't play the full level since I dove in on very hard and ran around balls to the wall until I got whacked but it gave more of a Hexen vibe than just about anything else. Big level that gave the impression at least of a lot of areas waiting to be opened up with keys and/or activating shit (Power) to open up new rooms, etc.

I notice the dude's marketing of his game has changed now, too. Not a single mention of "Boomercore" anywhere, and the description appears to be a much more honest about what's going on. "Thicc orcs" is the one shoutout to the memers but otherwise it's actually just talking about the game. Might finally pick it up now, $9 isn't a great discount but if it includes the sequel and slides in under the price increase I'm considering it at least. The fact that it's GZDoom is a blessing and a curse though, blessing because it feels good while you're playing, curse because it just makes me think about amazing mods instead of shilling out $9 for orc cock.

There isn't cock in the game. If there were then Humanity has risen! would have made a thread about it.

Game has no porn. :(
Just like with tasteful rape, it's there if you use the power of your imagination.

Played more of the demo, still on the fence about buying it. Level wasn't as expansive and twisty as my initial impression made it out to be, but it was/is fun to explore. Only major problem is what I bitched about before where the enemies are SO fucking boring. The sprites are okay (Would've liked more dramatic animations but the visuals aren't that big of a deal) but the lack of good sounds for seeing the player, combat barks, death noises, etc is a drag, and they're all lethargic and tend to just stand in place and shoot at the player. Which is fairly standard for Doom, buuuuuuuut Doom levels tend to have more creativity in enemy placement while Hedon's levels are big sprawling things to explore but when the rubber meets the road and you're fighting baddies it's often just "Here's 5-20 enemies put in a pile in an open room". Not attacking from ledges above, attacking through bars, tucked around corners, nothin'. The combination of enemies being dumped in a big pile and most of them standing in place and attacking means the majority of the time you can just pull out the crossbow or potion launcher and take them all out in a few shots. I'm hoping this is just because this is probably the first level and things will get more creative, but apparently I've seen everything except one enemy type and one weapon.

On the other hand, it's $9. And I'm mostly just bitching about the enemies because I like running around the map and just wish the combat was better. Probably should try melee-only mode and see if I prefer that.

the levels get more complicated as the game goes on and there are definitely enemies "attacking from ledges above, through bars, tucked around corners" etc. and what do you mean you've seen "everything but one enemy type?" as far as I can remember the only enemies in the first level are 2 types of cultists (one that is cannon fodder melee type and one that throws shit) and worms...

it's already been said that there are going to be new enemy types in episode 2 as well, and episode 2 is meant to be more "attack-focused" since you are going on the offensive after the events of ep 1

Might've been the case in the old opening, looking at the patch notes they redid the first level at some point. Killed melee cultists, ranged cultists, wizards, worms, cacodemons, lost souls, dogs, shield chicks, and I think that's it.

Gave in and bought it. Finished the demo map and the final encounter was a fun combat (Another big open arena with dozens of enemies, but eh) and then I tried bearzerker mode which was a riot. May dig that more than using guns but they're different enough I might end up playing both. Unfortunately I'll wait to play until after the update since apparently that's going to update GZDoom as well and fuck up any existing saves, and since I take my time playing shit I may not finish it in a couple weeks.

Figured out the mystery of how I was seeing a bunch of enemies and weapons in the demo. The demo map is apparently the 5th one in the campaign, Grove. Makes sense to show a slice from the middle like that but I had no idea it was the case until now.

I played hedon a while back, I think it's great. Napalming cultists is a lot of fun. Imo the map design is really the highlight, lots of cool stuff going on and good variety.

There are is one stinker level though, and some of the plot/characters scream "tumblr oc".

Is the first chapter no longer free on itch?
