Hedon is quite different from the plethora of "boomer shooters" out there, despite being on GZDOOM. It's more about exploring complex maps and adventuring imo.

I was really surprised at the good pacing and build up of atmospheric sceneries that gave a sense of history while also not bungling up the reinless shooting. It's a truly quirky game and one of my personal favorites among the indie shooters. Can't wait for Bloodrite.

I played hedon a while back, I think it's great. Napalming cultists is a lot of fun. Imo the map design is really the highlight, lots of cool stuff going on and good variety.

There are is one stinker level though, and some of the plot/characters scream "tumblr oc".

Is the first chapter no longer free on itch?

yeah the first chapter is still free but I think the dev stopped development of that version when he moved to Steam. so any of the updates the Steam version got won't be in it. Still playable though.

One thing very much worth mentioning: It is one of the VERY few FPS games (not only boomer shooters or indie FPS) that has a flamethrower that doesn't suck.

Also, "thicc orcs", the concept alone is just I can't even. Truly amazing!

I like the rows of standing urinals in the bathhouse level when every single orc is female, really makes you think.

Come to think of it every level so far has likely had at least one bathroom, too. Hadn't been taking notes but mentioning that made me realize there's been a lot of 'em and I'm fairly sure there hasn't been a map without one yet.

Yeah, I think it's closer to unreal than doom in terms of game design, despite the engine being a doom source port.

Really itching to replay this now, but gotta wait until bloodrite comes out.

Beat episode 1, I give it a rating of good out of ten. Complaints are fairly minor especially considering that it sounds like it was mostly a one man project, and even if the dude just really wants to tell you about his futa orc OC I've gotta give him credit given how enjoyable that first episode was. Quite looking forward to episode 2 in a few days and glad I did finally buy this.

Current estimation does put this in second place for retro shooters, only behind Dusk. I might replay Dusk at some point just to see if it's really as enjoyable as I remember or if I just have that feeling because it was so early on in this wave of shooters, but Hedon's head and shoulders above Amid Evil, Project Warlock, even Prodeus even though Prodeus seems like it should be my favorite on paper. Honestly I've been having a hard time figuring out why I'm not more fond of Prodeus because every time I play it it's entertaining, but it doesn't have me by the balls like Dusk and Hedon did where I kept coming back constantly.

So help me god this is the shit that kept me away from the game in the first place.

Pumped to play, though. Fired it up and fucked around for just a bit, noticed a few UI changes (Air meter is larger and more noticeable now, and your armor amulet changes color on if it's empty/loaded) and it looks like you can shoot up some props now like bottles and shit. Also somewhat interestingly the test map no longer has an obvious marked area for episode 3. There's a blank wall that has plants and shit on it (And the backer area for portraits has stained glass where the path to episode 3 was last time) so I don't know if episode 3 is no longer in the works and everything's wrapped up in episode 2, or if he changed it since maybe episode 3 WILL be a standalone thing/separate game listing, or what's up with that. Guess I'll see how episode 2 ends.

Edit: Huh, I'll be damned. Looking at my screenshots in this thread I can see the armor amulet changed color before. Guess I just never noticed it until now. Air's certainly different though.

First level good. Hedon good. Episode 2 looking good. Fairly sure the gibs got a slight improvement as well, don't remember being able to kick severed heads around before, and I don't remember the lance dropping little burning pieces when it hit stuff before.

Also important, SCAT CONFIRMED. Hedon episode 1, dickgirls. Hedon episode 2, scat. Hedon episode 3, shitting dicknipples? We can only hope there's enough Patreon support.

The dev is making a desexualized game of his orc dickgirl art. Porn first, top tier shooters later. It's better than the commie crowd like the Polish transvestites who wants to insert dickgirls and homos into their game and fap their brains out and forget to actually work on the game.
